On CNN, someone who witnessed the exchange said the cop fired 3 times and hit the gunman in the back once, and he shook it off. He said it looked like he had some serious body armor on; the officer probably wasn't expecting that.

The nation should be protesting on behalf of human beings. That hasn't happened. This entire problem is due to complacency of this country, along with ignoring the hard data behind racial bias in the justice system. Do you want to just gloss over that? This is why this is happening right now. Shit was allowed to get to this point because fuck all has been done to alleviate the issues of gun control, and police executions.

Yes. Looking closely at the video, you see the shooter initially move toward and shoot at the left of the pillar, then changes course on a dime and catches the cop as he moves away from the shot to his right.

but this is the type of shit you get when you allow military grade rifles to be in the hand of the public

Anyone who says that "it's just a normal rifle that looks scary to idiots" can get fucked, because that's a fucking bullshit argument. These type of rifles are based on military designs and are just as deadly when you're talking range in hundreds of yards. Especially when these weapons have the capacity to hold magazines that can range from 30, to 40 bullets to even fucking 60 round drum magazines.

But we already know this, we'e only had years of mass shootings with these type of weapons.

You want to do something that can save lives? Ban magazines larger than five rounds to the public for rifles (and hand guns, those magainzes can be modified to still fit in the gun but only allow X bullets. Yea, black markets exist bla bla bla, but when Tommy gets his moms fucking gun and is forced to reload every five shots it at least gives people a chance to survive or make an attempt to make a move to fight back.

I would like to point out that the term sniper rifle means all of jack and/or shit in all reality. Any weapon can be used to snipe a target, be it a .50 Barret or a .22 plinker pistol. If memory serves me, the most common sniper rifle the military uses is a run of the mill bolt action rifle with a scope. I probably have something close in my gun safe for varmint shooting and long range target shooting. Sniper rifle is a term used in fiction novels and news reports to make things seem worse than they actually are.

If this is OT, I apologize. But people tossing around bad terms like this is a major put peeve of mine and a major hindrance to actual legislation that is helpful being passed.

Shooting at a protest is beyond the pale. We've had years of #blacklivesmatter protests and this is not part of the frame. This isn't what happens. I don't understand it happening now, because I don't have any context. I don't know motive, identity, or the way we as a society should ideally react to this. I just don't know.

Wow. That Fox News footage is tragic. The poor cop got flanked and dare I say fooled by the shooter. The shooter shot at him from the right and then flanked him from the left almost immediately and just went in run and gun style with the Assault Rifle. Poor cop with his handgun had no chance. Don't assume they were necessarily working for the cause of BLM, even in their own minds. This seems like it's designed to push a volatile situation over the edge to me.
