That's not what I said, or what I was getting at. There have been numerous people in this thread vilifying the media for showing that clip, but quite frankly it's their job to do so. They are reporting on what's happening, and I'd much rather live in a country that shows stuff like this than one that sanitizes it.

I'll admit my phrasing was clumsy, but your last sentence is simply not true.

Terrible news to hear.

I want to ask about something, though. Is it a USA thing to have problems with gun abuse? Seems like lately I've been hearing about a shooting every other day or something.

Still...

Whoever the shooter(s) is/are, it's never right to put harm to others who may have never had the intent to harm. This kind of stuff makes me feel sick.

These actions will only stoke the police cultures attitude that it's "us vs them." They will fear they're being hunted, it's what they're going to talk about as they huddle around their desks or in the department lunch hall. And every time they pull over a civilian. And if these shooters are black? Fuck, I don't see there being any bridge long enough to cross the chasm that'll rupture from this. BLM progress will be perverted into a threat. This could be a tipping point for the worse.

If they really do have two snipers arrested, then even further respect to the department capturing them alive. That wouldn't happen in a lot of places.

it wasn't a sniper rifle.

the term sniper is simply used for someone who is shooting from a concealed, unknown position.

probably just another semi-auto rifle, you don't need a scope or anything fancy to kill people from a distance and enough bullets.

I actually agree with this. In a bizarre way I'm actually hoping they are white guys because the racial/police situation down there is already fucked up; this will make it exponentially worse.

To be honest, I wonder how hard the right wing can really spin this. As much as they hate BLM and black people, it makes for a good segue into gun control. I'm already seeing people claim that this was all a false flag.

That would be a positive step in the right direction... a direction where many, MANY countless steps need to be taken.

Unfortunately the NRA and their Republican cronies will ensure such a law never gets passed. Even when it sounds so gosh darn reasonable.

There was nothing "spray and pray" about that. The killer was very precise in his actions. Also, legal AR's are semi-auto, which only shoots as fast as your finger, just like a pistol.

Note that civil unrest and civil war are two completely different things. No one is going to establish a rival government to challenge DC.

Conceivably events could spiral and we'd end up with 60s style riots in major cities, but even that is a big if. People are tired of gun violence in this country. Exhausted by it. The status quo can't hold, but that doesn't mean it will end in political violence.
