I believe that protests have to file public plans with local authorities -- the chief himself said he was part of planning meetings, so there was ample opportunity to find out the route.

Still, it had to be at least partially pre-planned ...

This could shake the general election.

Depending on who they are, Xenophobia could erupt.
Xenophobia never left, even the people you think are not xenophobic....guess what, they are, they will just never admit that to you. If anything it will get worse.

This will do one of two things....Obamas speech last night already is being labeled as Anti Cop on FB by people.

I mean this all really rests on the Dallas PD, outside of the knuckle heads in the department they were showing great progress with the community, They ....god I'm going to puke I think.....this is just so horrible I can't even talk about this.

R.I.P to all the officers. This is absolutely terrible. The shooters are despicable and no matter their internal rationale, are the scummiest of scum. These cops were doing their job, policing and supporting the protesters.

It was extremely honorable to have officers stand side by side with the protesters. They were interacting with their community, showing solidarity with more than a thousand people outraged over the deaths of Castille and Sterling. Community policing is what it is called, and it absolutely works in neighborhoods. Cops are humanized, and the cops get to know the people they are sworn to protect and serve.

I can't expect Dallas P.D to do that again. How can you when as soon as you let your guard down, something like this happens.

Let it be known, these shooters are not indicative of the BLM movement, nor should anyone think that this was inevitable. The country was/is collectively furious about the killings over the last couple of days, but to fire into a peaceful protest has given more ammunition to all those that say we are monkeys, thugs, and gangbangers who can't do anything right. I'm utterly dejected.

There is a culture war going on. The prize are the millions of Americans who are predisposed to thinking ill of blacks. Over that last few decades, their justifications get chipped away little by little, and as I posted in the Philandro Castille thread their diet racism gets harder and harder to justify until they aren't anymore. We were on that path in my opinion, with the overwhelming support that I saw from the most unlikely sources (i.e. those Diet Racists). All of that emotional capital was just washed away. Everyone's worse fears are suddenly confirmed, and everything goes right back to where we were.

These shooters fucked everything up. In a more just world, we should be able to be accountable for ourselves, but the far right will label him a BLMer, ask again "what is going on with the black youth!?". Trump will make a blowhard message about "getting to the bottom of this" and how he will be tough on crime. Obama will be seen as a sympathizer to the shooters, fueling even more partisan bullshit when we all should collectively mourn.

It's too much. Too depressing to think about yet this will dominate our collective minds for a long time. Blue Lives Matters bills will pass that will shit on the civil rights of people, driving us closer to a police state. I hope i'm wrong, but... I don't think so.

I'm tired.

They're talking triangulation tactics on CNN now. At least 4 shooters working in tandem.

I'm 90% sure at this point the protest was just a cover. These guys were likely waiting for ANY major event drawing crowds/cops to the area.

This doesn't seem like ISIS, but who knows with how desperate they've been getting lately.

But this is NOT Black Lives Matter. Black Lives Matter is 20/30-somethings and college students. It is not, and has never been, a militant group.

You would need to be very familiar with the downtown area and whre the police would be posted up not just the location of the protest.

If you're a local and you know the area well, it wouldn't be difficult to get a general idea of positioning. It didn't need to be precise down to the inch.

It's definitely worth remembering that these police were here supporting the protest against police violence.

They weren't in conflict with the protesters. They were on the same side, opposing murder and racism.
Yeah there was virtually zero tension during the rally and march. Police closed off roads for us and I didn't see any protesters egging on police or any police disrespecting protestors. Friendly atmosphere in general -- very positive vibes.

I can't wait until VR is powerful enough to literally escape to another world Sword Art Online style. Tired of these awful events happening basically every day.

I don't think they'll target civilians, these most probably are some anti police rebellion type of people. Time will tell.

This does not have the hallmark of an ISIS attack in any way. Targeting police officers, wanted to get away alive. Nothing about this says ISIS.

Man this is sad and terrifying at the same time. Can someone please start an "All lives matter" movement and stop all this bullshit. Politicians are worried about ISIS but there is more terrorism in your backyard than there is anywhere else.
Are you blaming BLM for this?

Eh...

All lives do matter and nobody says otherwise. Black Lives Matter means Black lives DO matter or matter too.

Lady on CNN saying that shooters had to have knowledge of the route of the protest.

Then mentions that the police were involved in the planning of the route of the protest.

They don't need to be ISIS.
They need to be muslim, look muslim, mexican, black for this to spin out of control.

It's easy to convince stupid people carrots are bad for you as long as you show them a story about someone choking on it.

The majority of american voters are not looking to start a full blown race war. If anything what's happened over the last 3 days shows everyone we need to come together, not continue fighting. The idea of going over to Trump after all these tragedies is utterly mind boggling to me.

Military trained style movement shooters claiming there's bombs all over downtown???

But if it was only police they went after I'd assume the only places they'd put bombs at are the PDs.

I don't even...

Looks more and more like terrorism using cover of protest of a already volatile situation to further feed their fucked up state of mind.

Shooting cops -> anti-government sentiment
+ Military like training, movement, weapon handling
+ Well executed ambush, area of fire, was able to leave initial firefight

= militia?

A civilian in confirmed to have been shot in the leg, is in the hospital right now, a black woman and part of the protest. CBSN is interviewing her sister right now.

What's wrong with calling the shooter a savage?
Well lately savage has been used to describe someone badass, so I could understand the confusion.

Dallas PD doesn't really have a choice, there has to be a police presence at organized rallies. What they could do is put a moratorium on rallies, but that would just mean the police would mobilize to prevent gatherings. Then if people rally in spite of a moratorium, the police will have to show up.

Why would they target the police when they could have shot hundreds of protesters?

Why would they try and get away?

Bombs now too?

If this is true, someone has taken the whole action movie villain thing too far.

I cant believe it's been 3 consecutive days where I'm hearing about senseless shootings on the news/from GAF. This country really needs to take some steps to better itself.
