Horrible news. The world keeps getting worse and worse.

However, props to the original POI surrendering his gun and the officer he handed it to. Talk about cooler heads, both handled that extremely well.

Let's be careful posting anything from Reddit.

only thing that could be incorrect about that picture is the date that paint was thrown. thats definitely the logo and door of oakland PD.

and with the recent scandal.... it wouldn't be a stretch. but i guess that's a topic for another thread. so i apologize for posting.

The previous "person of interest" is being interviewed on CBS. Saying he and his brother are getting death threats now. He was interrogated for 30 minutes, police confiscated his gun and clothes.

They both should be in protective custody right now. Being out and about is begging for some misinformed vigilante to make a stupid move.

saw this on reddit

front door of oakland police department.

red paint, a metaphor for blood?

If you're going to post something you saw, at least link back to it. You've just put up a thing with absolutely zero context.

Anyway, I don't know anything about this picture, but Oakland had massive protests today over the same two killings that Dallas was protesting. http://abc7news.com/news/all-lanes-of-i-880-in-oakland-remain-closed-due-to-protest-/1418202/

Isn't carrying an assault rifle (loaded or not) at a peaceful protest kind of... misguided?

What would be the reason for doing this (apart from exercising your lawful right to do so)?

5th officer dead

FOX 4 NEWS ‏@FOX4 38s39 seconds ago
#BREAKING ~ A fourth Dallas PD officer has died after Thursday night's shooting in downtown. Total of 5 officers now dead.

They both deserve police protection.

They really do. They asked the police to clear their name publicly and the police refused "until the investigation is over". Cops are obviously circling the wagons, protecting their own first and foremost.

I really respect Mark Hughes. The guy is intelligent, eloquent, and level-headed. They act in the most upstanding way possible and they still get shafted. I just really hope the word gets out to everyone that they didn't have anything to do with this.

The two people were killed when they had the right to legally wield those guns.

He did everything 110% correctly. He talked to the cops as soon as he realized he was a POI, and still got treated like trash as cops attempted to trick him into confessing.

so he deserves what he got? what are you trying to infer here?

this is all a perfect example of the double standard of open carry. Open carry is only legal for white people, not black people.

Did the two young men from Boston that got plastered on the front page of the a NY paper as suspects ever get an apology following the Boston bombings?

Europe is not the USA
God forbid the cops were not armed when this shooting started, how many dead would we have then, not just police officers but innocent people just trying to make progress through peace?

What? Police are armed in Europe. Innocent bystanders weren't the targets here.

I think his reason was to exercise his right. Not saying it's the best choice as I think no one should carry a gun like that in public. However it is telling that he was immediately broadcasted as a suspect on national news, even after he turned in the gun...

To highlight the fact that a black person exercising their right to bear arms is viewed differently than a white person.

Not in his shoes, but if I were to make an educated guess.

Black people are having their lives taken from them on a statistically higher basis from cops, there is a feeling that they don't have the same rights as others and are treated as "threats" automatically. A person, who is facing a system that is racist against him, using one of his ten basic rights granted to him by he Bill of Rights is a message and a symbol that he has the same rights as anyone else.

It's part of the protest, kinda the same reason why black panthers open carried during the civil rights movement.

just a shot in the dark

EDIT: Fifth officer has died.

It was pointed out earlier, but the two shootings happened because of concealed carry, so open carry is another form of protest.

Piss right off with that attitude. I'm genuinely curious why anyone would openly carry an assault rifle at a peaceful protest. No fucking agenda, so can that right now.

CBSN, he went to the police station, was interrogated for half an hour by police saying they have proof he was a shooter.

That's what he said happened to him (they also confiscated his cloths apparently)

That's the Reid Technique. Basically police start off by saying they know you are guilty, they have proof (even when they don't), and you should just confess

http://people.howstuffworks.com/police-interrogation2.htm

Works remarkably well at getting people to confess, unfortunately also when they are innocent.

While I am sorry these officers are dead, I'm afraid this is just going to delay the long needed police reforms this country so desperately needs.
