Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

I feel more and more frustrated. I hate feeling like I'm actually worse off in the game after going out and playing.

Got absolutely crushed by a gym (fucking Kazam), so I wasted 6 revives and 8 potions. Every other gym around my office is 6 deep with 1000+ CP Pokemon I can only dream of, and I'm catching my 50th fucking Rattata and Weedle. :(

Never felt like this playing Ingress. I want to like it so I keep playing it. Maybe I should just give up and come back in a few months.

Tried it and am really disappointed honestly. The whole point of Pokémon for me is the battles - I loooooove love love competitive Pokémon battling but they completely ruined the entire battle system in this game.

Not for me I guess. Kinda bummed, I hate being "that guy" but nothing in this looks remotely fun to me. :(

Yeah, I can imagine the competitive pokemon players having the capacity to be the most put off by this. Which is a shame because I'm sure people like you have put the most time into the games, but I can't imagine they'd ever bring anything close to the Pokemon battle system into anything other than a mainline game.

So I had a weird occurance last night. I clicked on one of my 5k eggs to see how close I was to hatching it and the page didn't fully load. It also showed 7k out of 10k. The description though was the weird part. It said something along the lines of:

"You can hatch this egg with butter. It likes all kinds of butter. Every kind. The best kind."

Anyone else have this happen?

The battle system is supposed to be quick and easy. It's a mobile game.

As someone who spent years deep into VGC, Smogon, and the like I have only put 5-10 minutes a day or so into this. It's novel, but yeah it's not really the way I played Pokémon back in the day.

I also completed the X&Y national pokedex so I'm not as crazy about completing the pokedex in this.

But, it is my gym day today and I'm debating skipping my cardio session for a walk through the neighborhoods to see where the good stops and such are.

I know I'm in a minority of the general playerbase, but if it had PvP of any kind I'd probably be obsessed with it. The gym stuff is cool but not the same, per se.

There's a pokestop right by my office that always has a lure in it.

Bad thing is, from where I'm sitting I'm just outside of its reach :(

I can reach it when I'm leaving or on lunch break

caught nothing but Rattata's and Spearows :(

Ok Gaf, I live near a Drowzee nest. I caught a lot of them. I also caught a Hypno. What's the best choice ? Level up my PC 157 Hypno or evolve my PC 73 Drowzee ?(The strongest) ?

Honestly, those are all pretty low levels. You might want to hold on to your stardust til you level your trainer a bit more.

Those are pretty weak and later on stardust will become a scarcer resourse. save it.

Random battles on Showdown take like five minutes tho. They could make it so that all battles are either in a gym or PvP challenge. Idk. I played Showdown on my phone a lot for a bit, just make the UI more intuitive and fast and I don't see why it wouldn't be suitable for mobile.

Not that there's any point in debating it I guess, since that's clearly not what they're going for here. Oh well.

It's just fucked in so many ways. It's impossible to take over solo. It's impossible to hold against a group.

It's very rarely impossible to solo a gym. As long as you can beat the first Pokemon, you can knock the prestige down. Rinse and repeat, and you can keep knocking prestige down until there's only one defender. So, as long as your best six combined can beat the gym's best one solo, you can always take a gym. If they have a CP ~1200 mon, that means you need about six 400 Pokes, from my experience, which is pretty achievable from Lv.10 onwards, or about a week's play.

Went hunting with a colleague today during lunch. Highlight:
*I spot a Meowth*
"You're standing still on the middle of the road"
"Yes but Meowth"

In my defence it was a very quiet piece of street.

Current emotional state: In awe of local gym leaders who have very strong Pokemon. Must train hard to become stronger.

Oh god I'm becoming an anime character.

Yeah thats exactly it. They would alienate the blue ocean. I think they feel like if you want a more hardcore gamer type geocaching experience you can play Ingress or whatever.

Just took over a gym where I can see I was the only one around for quite a distance, Instantly taken over by a "ghost" who is pretty obviously spoofing GPS. Nice.

Talked to a bunch of people today just walking through the city and hanging out at lure hotspots. Great experience all around, love this game.

I'm p. sure I'm the strongest trainer in my local area. I tolerate Team Valour, which has maybe 3-4 local guys (compared to me and 1 other for Instinct); we have a sort of deal where we leave each other alone. That's so we can focus on Mystic, who have at least 12 players at this point and some people not far off me. This alliance must hold.

Also, I'm amazed. Literally two-three days ago in this thread you'll finding me talking about how I could claim all five gyms in my town because nobody else had it yet. Now I'm really struggling, already. This thing is phenomenal; I live in a rural as fuck area of a country it hasn't officially rolled out in.

Agree, if this game was too complex for total beginners, it won't be that popular.

Yeah, unfortunately the hardcore, dedicated pokemon fans kind of have to realize that this game wasn't made with them in mind and try to enjoy it the best they can regardless.

Not playing, waiting for them to officially release it here. Yeah, I could download the APK, but if they haven't released it here yet I guess it's for a reason. And there was talk of them possibly banning people for circumventing the region lock, but maybe that was BS?
There is no region lock (if we're talking about android), it just literally isn't listed on the store in countries they haven't flipped the switch for. On IOS it's a little different and I can't vouch for it.

The reason, which is completely real, is because the servers are completely struggling even with the countries it HAS been released in. They don't want to open the floodgates until they absolutely must. But that's their problem, and if I get to play, my Scandinavian brethren should too. :p

It's competely up to you if you grab it or not, but I'm getting banned too if they decide apk folks are evil after all ;) it's completely unprecedented so far as I know.

You too? I bought this:

Magnetic pad you stick on the back, then snaps-in/off really fast on the mount. Works great for this game. Got several people who were playing the game ask me about it.
I WANT THIS. That solves one of the safety concerns I had as well.
I already use a magnetic mount in my car so my phone has a metal plate ready to go. What is it called/brand??

Reached lvl 5, decided to join Reds.

Then I checked the gym near my home. It's owner, a blue weirdo called Lolipraiser has a +1k CP Pokemon.

Yeah not going to bother lol

Pokémon is more relevant to my life right now than it was in 1996. XD

Various famous venues are also talking about it. Madison Square Garden posted about having Pokemon in the "Worlds Most Famous Gym" but it was just a little Rattata lol

is that really all it fixed?

Everything in the IOS 1.01 Patch Notes

-Trainers do not have to enter their usernames and password repeatedly after a force log out
-Added stability to Pokemon Trainer Club account log-in process
-Resolved Issues causing crashes
-Fixed Google account scope
