Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Yaaay he came back and then I got the stuck pokeball bug with a great ball but he stayed in when I rebooted :D

And then I went to lunch (late, at 1) and the spot I was eating (where I got all the time) turns out to be a stop and it has a lure on it. About 10 minutes into my meal it ends, and I can hear the people at the table next to me talking about what they caught and stuff. Start to chat with em and say I wish I'd taken my lunch earlier. Dude says well he's about to drop another lure. Awesome. I love it when I know who dropped one so I can thank them. :D Other dude was showing off one of those extended-battery iPhone cases, claims he can get 8 hours on it now (it was massive). Nice guys. Can't believe how ubiquitous this has all become.

Love the atmosphere of just chilling and eating a meal, catching and flipping the stop every few minutes and chatting. Got this ball while I was there
<3 Loving these lunchtime hunts.

edit: Also got another Bulbasaur off a tip from two other people during the walk over there. :)

There's a Victreebel near my work, it was one footprint away now I can't find it. Damnit.

Fake edit: half hour later got to sit back down and now it's gone ):

Real edit: It's back! 3 steps now...not worth it

Went for a little walk on the pier this morning and managed to snag an 867 Magneton and a bunch of Magnetites and Voltorbs. Lots of electric types on the pier I guess... figured there would be water types. Weird.

Also managed to grab a 900+ Hypno and a couple more Charmanders at the Boardwalk amusement park.

I love how crazy popular this game is. I haven't seen anything like it since the Tamagotchi craze in the late 90s. I went to the grocery store yesterday and there were kids running around the parking lot catching Pokemon. What a time to be alive!

I sit on top of a pokestop which once in a while has a lure active. There are sooooo many zubat, why??? I had six of them on screen at one time.

I just went through and transferred every zubat I have below CP70, I still have over 10 rows to go and 240+ zubat candy. ~_~

I did have the pokeball-freeze error a whole bunch of times today. Yesterday things were actually really stable for me but today the server issues are more intense.

Also, put me down in favor of having to be in person to trade with someone. Love the idea of physically traveling to another city or country and trading with the people there. Personally I'd open my guest room to any GAFfers seeking floridian pokemon. Would probably help with the ticket if you could prove you had an abundance of Sandshrews.

Unrestricted global trading means everyone's collection is filled out in a matter of minutes really. As much of a convenience factor as it would have, that would kind of kill a lot of the game's draw for me.

It isn't even released here yet and there's already a CP 728 Hypno at the gym near me, people waiting for the official release will be so far behind.

Well this is frustrating. Today on my first day of playing I've found four different Pokemon, and each time I've captured them, the game has completely frozen on an image of the Pokeball. So after all that I'm just left with Squirtle, the one time it didn't freeze.

Is it an issue with my phone? (Samsung Galaxy S6?) surely you'd think at least one of the bloody captures would work. I guess a lot of people are playing in the UK right now..

Edit: looks like a few of you above are having the same issue

let it sit at that screen for a bit caught a charmander earlier today and had that happen let it sit on that frozen screen for a little bit then relogged and i had him in my pokemon list

I've been having a crazy difficult time getting most gym battles to start. They all tend to freeze while "GO" is on the screen and then it sends me back to the start to pick my team. It's pretty frustrating. I tired at least eight times to battle two different gyms at the pier today before giving up. I had great service too. Are you guys experiencing the same thing?

I was however able to battle one gym while waiting for my car at a car wash. I breezed through it since everybody was so low and then left my 1517 CP Vaporeon to defend. It will be interesting to see how long he lasts since people can't spend too much time battling before their cars are ready.

Had a nice experience walking the dog.

A drowsee appears on the route, I catch it, game freezes.

No big deal, I'll just restart. Except the servers are dodgy and it takes about 10 minutes to get playing again. So I'm walking around and there are no Pokémon in the park, but there are two pokestops.

Go to the first one, nothing happens. Game freezes, I have to restart.

Go the second one, nothing happens. Something is supposed to happen right, they aren't just areas for lure modules?

So by now I'm heading home, but at least I see a squirtle to catch. Game freezes. The end.

Oh my. Servers have been absolute garbage for the last two hours for me. Practically impossible to capture something as Pokéball just freezes on the ground. Been passing a lot of medium nice stuff not even engaging them like Psyduck's, Slowpokes, Fairies, Polywags and whatnot simply because it would freeze my app every time. While I'm certain Niantic have some very sharp guys when it comes to networking/scale/data-queries etc they really need to improve how the app and servers recovers from disconnects and package loss.

But at least I managed to hatch like nine-ten eggs on the run (nine active cannisters):

Received 9000xp in one go (with Lucky Egg active) but I also had eggs hatch before and after that single blow. Received three new creatures I didn't have from before:

Tried to take a scenic AR photo (with a common Pokémon).

no Venonat... please.. not again..

It's going to be Christmas times with those eggs. Jelly. Report back when they have hatched!

You need to spin the image to get rewards.

3 churches in my area are pokestop, 2 of them have constant lures when there is service.

Have you heard the good news Neogaf? Arceus saves lives!

In my experience, if the game freezes as you throw a ball, let it sit for a good 30 seconds, you'll probably see the loading circle in the corner go a few times. Doing this seems to increase the chance of your crash resulting in an actual capture instead of a miss.

I just un-installed the game to install the official release from google play and apparently my device is incompatible. Where can I download the updated apk?

This. Anything to encourage more face to face social connection, and to discourage people trading real world money for rare Pokémon. This game is about being social, not about a Chinese egg-hatching farm selling Dratinis.

Agreed local training would be best but the flipside is that once again rural/suburban areas get fucked.
I live in nyc so idgaf

Took a walk to the Rockville Square for lunch. Lures all over. Everyone on their phone.

Kind of bummed that the wing place doesn't have a pokestop for a lure.

There was a guy outside of the ice cream place, who has discovered a power outlet on the outside of the building. There is a pokestop there, which had a lure up almost constantly.

Found a Horsea in the wing place, and a Gastly around the corner. A Fearow in the main Square, which is now my highest CP mon (561).

Now have 16 Pidgeys and 68 candies. So much XP :).

So if I understand this correctly, all Pokemon of a species have the same potential as far as cp you just have to spend dust to power up the weaker ones?

So i'm not sure if this has been asked, but im curious about something. I dowloaded the apk for the app through a thread on gaf a week ago, but how do i update the app?
You can't auto update. You'll have to find an updated version of the apk and manually install that. Or once it's available on play store, just re-download it from there and you'll get auto updates. You won't lose your data either way.

Edit: looks like there is a link to the updated apk just below this post

Yes, but if you get a really bad one, you should rather wait and use stardust when you catch a better one. You don't start powering up a Pokemon with a CP of 10.

Hatched Pokemon have a slightly higher cap, but otherwise, yes. Each species gets a certain amount of extra CP per level-up, and you can have trainer-level*2 power-ups. Dragonite's is 50 (roughly, anyway, it's 50 point something and you get an extra random point every so many levels), so at level 25, for example, a max CP'd caught Dragonite is something like ~2500.

Not so sure about that. I installed through an APK and went to the Google Play store later and saw an Update option. I don't think it'll auto-install but it recognized I had Pokemon GO and an update available. Went through fine.

Apparently I suck at this. Caught my Charmander as a starter, found a Zubat when I was heading to my car and yet...every time I flick a Pokeball and it just either rolls under it, or over it. Is there something really obvious I'm missing? :-( #n00b
