This is the old info people got about it. Likely to be outdated by now, though that doesn't necessarily mean the Neo itself will have a major spec bump or come out next year. We'll see what happens, eh?
I'm not getting the 4K craze. Neo will surely struggle rendering its ps4 content at 4K, checkered rendering non-withstanding.
While I am getting one at launch, I really hope they provide a 1080p@60 option for us UHD TV owners.
Only a bit faster CPU and 2 times better GPU? Wait for next year's Scorpio and Sony will have serious problems.

Checkerboard rendering is a reconstruction technique similar to Killzone Shadow Fall's horizontal interlacing. It's not something you can just do to an existing game to make it 4K, it needs to be built in at a fundamental level.
how mad will people be if Neo is mostly the same at 1080p?
I mean if Neo is only worth it on a 4k TV

Well they would be mad as they would have bought a PS4 and not a Neo.
Doesn't mention if it will have better wifi... Hope it does because Sony is calling it a high end version of PS4.
Don't think so. PS3 had serious problems against Xbox 360. It had better CPU but a bit worse GPU. Xbox 360 sold for many years much better. Now let's move back to 2013. You know why Sony sold more PS4 over Xbox One? It was available worldwide almost immediately and it's much better than when we compare specifications. The same way the PS2 had serious problems when the Xbox released. Games will perform better on the Scorpio but the PS4(K) will continue the sell more.
Scorpio isn't going to dominate anything in general because it is also locked to XB1's development platform according to MS.
And then we get into sales, where MS having the power advantage generally means little to their success without games and the user support base to support it anymore than right now.
Sony don't have to care about waging a power war over iterative units, and according to Andrew house, they aren't planning to, which is good news to me.
As long as PS5 comes out nice and beefy, this NEO unit can pretty much jump off a building in my mind, i'll act as if it doesn't exist. What we're heard about so far is a decent jump for an iterative console and likely will cost 399, which is a good deal IMO for those interested, but its not necessary at all to enjoy what PS4 has to offer. Its a PS4 refresh with higher power because the SLIM business model doesn't save Sony money anymore.
No reason at all for me to replace my PS4 with Neo.
I will stick with my PS4 till the end of it's life cycle.
yea this better not be true because scorpio will stomp the fuck out of it if it has zen
Seems like this PS4 is targeting psvr audience and that's about it. These specs aren't running AAA titles at 4K that's for sure. Seems like NEO is if you want the better psvr experience is what you buy. Kind of a let down especially after what Scorpio is.
All versions of ps3 had bad wifi and so did the ps4.Doesn't mention if it will have better wifi... Hope it does because Sony is calling it a high end version of PS4.
Sony wants to sell 4K TVs so they're trying to convince devs to do some kind of half-baked 4K rendering.

Was really hoping a 2016 release was still possible but not at this rate. I need this shit.
Because those specs are not running any modetn AAA at 4K no matter what you think. Isn't all the rumor say it's releasing this year to help the psvr...why would you come to that conclusion when PSVR is not mentioned at all in this presentation?
surprised it took 6 pages for someone to mention VR
True. You'd need all your fragment shaders adapted for checkered, even though that's a rather mechanical translation, perhaps even one implementable in the shader compiler.Checkerboard rendering is a reconstruction technique similar to Killzone Shadow Fall's horizontal interlacing. It's not something you can just do to an existing game to make it 4K, it needs to be built in at a fundamental level.
I hope so. Unless we learned nothing from last gen when ps3 had to sell FullHD TVs, with all implications from that.Sony wants to sell 4K TVs so they're trying to convince devs to do some kind of half-baked 4K rendering.
I'm assuming many of them won't actually try doing that, since they don't have personal incentives to sell 4K TVs, and instead to sell their video game.
Mandated checkerd rendering for all 1st party, I guess. Oh well.Sony's first party by comparison will presumably be mandated to at least render something resembling 4K, similar to how many of them were required to render 3D TV output before that got dropped.

Not mad at all if 60fps 1080p.
Seems like this PS4 is targeting psvr audience and that's about it.

Am I? I've seen Sony crush the dreams of the competitors so many times before, now that they know what MS will do they'll most likely one-up them somehow..You are living in a dream world, chum.
This doc points to a 2016 release though.

This is a really smart move on Sony's end. The Neo will have an obvious enough advantage over the PS4 to be a marketable upgrade for existing PS4 owners and be an even more enticing option for newcomers, while being not much more expensive to produce than the base model PS4.
Will production of base model PS4s stop after the Neo's launches or will we see both models sold in tandem onward?

Under 4TF
Just like New 3DS
Just for PSVR
Nonsense jumps to conclusions, the thread.
SQUARE ENIX PLEASE DELAY FFXV FOR 1 DAY, I've waited 10 years, i can wait 1 more day.
Late September games require a neo patch.SQUARE ENIX PLEASE DELAY FFXV FOR 1 DAY, I've waited 10 years, i can wait 1 more day.
The power difference is huge but rumour is Sony held back neo at e3 to fiddle with specs a bit after finding out what Microsoft is doing.
