Why isn't Mario All-stars ever ported to the Virtual Console?

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
The originals are ported all the time, but All-stars has yet to be ported once. There was the FULL PRICE re-release on Wii that was basically a dump of the old ROM onto a Wii disc, but that's it.

The All-stars version of SMB1 is my childhood, and far superior to the NES version, IMO. Same for SMB2 and The Lost Levels. SMB3 is a give or take, but I'd still love to have an easily accessible way to play that again. The All-stars + SMW version also had an updated Luigi sprite in Super Mario World. This is such a classic Nintendo title. Why isn't it on the VC for Wii U or 3DS? I understand wanting to sell the disc on the Wii, but even that seems disingenuous at best.

Is All-stars not a well received remake?

Cynical as it might sound, Nintendo probably don't see any reason to make SMB1-3 (+ world if that's included) redundant by comparison being separate listings on VC.

They printed a disc for it specifically, that'll probably be the best you get for a while.

SMB = €/$5
SMBLL = €/$5
SMB2 = €/$5
SMB3 = €/$5
SMW = €/$8

Total =€/$28

If they placed that ROM online:
SMBAS = €/$8

Simple math honestly. And for the remastered graphics there's also the GBA VC, which adds another €7/$8 per game to the total.

Would it be that far fetched to sell the remakes separately?

I don't know but They should make an All-Stars like game for their 3D entires. So, 64, Sunshine, Galaxies, And 3D World. Who wouldn't buy that?

Didn't someone find some info in for Mario All Stars after the release of the SNES VC on 3DS? I'm still going it makes it. If not, I always have my handled n3DS and Retroarch.

Yup it's a real bummer that they haven't released it on VC, All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros 2 is my favorite 2D Mario game.

I still have my SNES cart, but even if they sell it for $20-30 I would gladly buy it on the 3DS VC. A ROM on another emulator just doesn't cut it, I want it official.

I know what you mean. I have my SNES cart as well, but it's a pain to hook up and is in a different room these days. I could legally play the ROM as I own the game, but it's not the same. It has to be fully legit for me to really enjoy it.

Because

a) They are not ports, VC is an emulator playing ROMs. Ports are games made to run natively on the respective hardware they are being ported to which requires active development on the game in question.
b) Two of them have been. They're called Super Mario Advance and include extra content.
c) Why would they release a compilation of 4 visually superior games they are also selling separately in their original incarnations for a lower price (they couldn't possibly charge it in accordance with their standard VC platform pricing).

Quite obvious, honestly, no?
If you're going to be this condescending I don't even really care what you're saying.

The Advance ports are not the same as they have added VA, compressed sound, and a different Luigi sprite than the All-stars version for SMW.

Because then you'd get all of those games for $8 instead of buying the NES versions separately.

You've seen how much each game costs individually on the VC. Why bundle them together?

Why sell 4 games for $8 when you can sell them for $20?

Pretty much everyone coming to the same conclusion, im sure nintendo arrived at it as well.

Edit: Additionally, i prefer the versions of MB on all stars as well, also prefer the snes controller over the nes.

I still have a snes version( very stupidly sold the one with mario world on it years ago), but I may just pick up the wii version since they put out another run and its cheap now.

Question on the VC:

This thread made me want to play Mario again. So I dug out my GameBoy Player and started trying to play SMB3 and SMW. It's been a long time since I've used it, but was the GameBoy Player always laggy? There is definitely some noticeable delay, worse in SMW, but hits both games.

Anyway my question for the VC: What is the input lag (if any) like for SMW VC? I know the game is cheap, but since the only reason I would buy it is to avoid the GameBoy Player lag, it would be rather pointless to pick it up and still have it be laggy. But if it's got no issues at all (on WiiU) I could be playing SMW all afternoon ;)

Didn't the All-Stars disc not even include Super Mario World? I always thought that was lame.

Yeah, my first exposure was that terrific SNES cart with All Stars + World. It wasn't until the Wii release that I actually learned that they are two separate things and All Stars only meant SMB1 - SMB3 :(

Paging HUELEN10

Good luck with that. HUELEN10 is banned.

And yeah it's obviously a pricing conundrum. Not going to sell that bundle for $8 or even $10 when the originals are twice as much and sell extremely well as it is. They still re-released it though. And just recently as a physical disc for $20. What do you expect?

Have both of you checked the batteries on your carts recently?

Your save files may be gone.

Maybe. But I find that the overwhelming majority of SNES cart batteries are still kicking. Heck I just imported Super Mario Collection, Yoshi's Island, and SMB4: Super Mario World for Super Famicom and the save feature is A-OK on all three.

In fact, even NES games like Zelda 1 we never get returns due to a dead battery. Battery replacement surgery is a good idea if you are planning to keep and use that cart/save file for another 20+ years but they are largely still fine for now.

Make it a MyNintendo exclusive reward. That way you can release it to your more invested fans withought destroying the VC pricing structure.

They'll probably make the Wii re-release available to download on Wii U for $20 down the line because they know they can get away with it.

Pretty sure they recently reprinted the disc version too, so yeah.

I think the originals have better spritework and sound, tbh. Not on a technical level, of course, but artistically. But I'm probably biased because in general I always prefer originals unless the original was a bomb. The originals are iconic and are more culturally significant than the All Stars versions.

aside from obvious reasons, i think nintendo wants to leave the option of another mario anthology open. hopefully when that time comes its not just another All Stars re-release.

Surprised they haven't just done an $expensive VC release of the Wii version though. I know they wouldn't do it priced as a regular SNES VC release, but aren't Wii VC releases typically $20?

The perfect Mario Anniversary bundle would have included every single Mario game up through Mario 64. Including SMB, SMB2, SMB2J, SMB3, SMW, Yoshi's Island and Mario 64. Maybe even Sunshine. As a bonus, THEN include All-Stars in its +World form, maybe as an unlockable or hidden bonus. (The other games would be the NES versions. Famicom for the 2J game.)

Worst anniversary ever.

Well aside from Metroid.

At least Zelda got a new game and a gold Wiimote. The least Mario could have gotten is every game on one disc. Instead we got even more least than that. The most least you can give really. The Year of Luigi gave us more effort than Mario's 25th anniversary.
