Why isn't Mario All-stars ever ported to the Virtual Console?

Surprised they haven't just done an $expensive VC release of the Wii version though. I know they wouldn't do it priced as a regular SNES VC release, but aren't Wii VC releases typically $20?

The Wii release was just a SNES VC game pressed on a disc, though.

The perfect Mario Anniversary bundle would have included every single Mario game up through Mario 64. Including SMB, SMB2, SMB2J, SMB3, SMW, Yoshi's Island and Mario 64. Maybe even Sunshine. As a bonus, THEN include All-Stars in its +World form, maybe as an unlockable or hidden bonus. (The other games would be the NES versions. Famicom for the 2J game.)

Worst anniversary ever.

Well aside from Metroid.

At least Zelda got a new game and a gold Wiimote. The least Mario could have gotten is every game on one disc. Instead we got even more least than that. The most least you can give really. The Year of Luigi gave us more effort than Mario's 25th anniversary.

For a bundle like that the price would be easily justified at over $100 and Nintendo is not desperate enough to sell that for $60. Only the 4-game Zelda disc was remotely comparable and that was a desperate attempt to turn the console war tides while Nintendo of America still had some autonomy.

All-Stars was listed as part of that eshop datamine last fall. The one that revelaed Twilight Princess HD was coming. So I think its quite possible it may be planned down the line.

Not really sure if its going to be as a premium price SNES game or if theyre gonna cheat and call it a Wii game but it just might happen.

If you're going to be this condescending I don't even really care what you're saying.

Dude, it's TheMoon -- he often has that tone. I'm not sure he means ill though; that's just (unfortunately) the way he comes across.

On topic: For the longest time, I've wanted All-Stars on VC as well, if only because I can use the save feature on SMB2 and SMB3.I don't care about 1 or Lost Levels because (unlike you, OP) I find the All-Stars versions of those games to be inferior to the original NES/Famicom versions.

I didn't say otherwise.

Edit: Although I think you mean a "SNES rom pressed to a disc", there has never been a VC release of Super Mario All Stars.

It was the SNES rom in the VC emulator pressed on a disc. It wouldn't really make sense to sell it on the eShop as a Wii game when they could just be selling it as a VC title, since that's all it was to the system.

The Wii disc doesn't have Mario World? Lame.

The All-stars version of SMB1 is my childhood, and far superior to the NES version, IMO.

Many SMB1 fans would say it is objectively inferior, as they drastically changed how the gameplay works. Some consider them completely different games as a result. Not being a Mario fan, I don't really have a strong opinion either way, but when you see all the changes they made (intentionally or accidentally...nobody really knows), it's understandable why it's a controversial version.

See here for changes

The key change is this:
Destroying a Brick Block has a different effect. Originally, Mario/Luigi rebounds downward quickly just like hitting any indestructible block. In Super Mario All-Stars, however, he continues going upwards, then falls back down more slowly. These two installments in All-Stars are the only Mario games to ever have this effect; even in the Super Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros. 3, Mario/Luigi rebounds downward quickly like in the original NES version.

I'm aware of the changes. I even played NES Mario first. I much prefer All-stars.

There is actually a mod to restore the original physics there!

WHAT!!! How did I never see this?

I still have the original anniversary print for wii and its one of the laziest ways to sell a mario game ive ever seen. Even the soundtrack included sucks.

SNES VC releases and Wii VC releases are priced differently.
