Twitter has just banned Milo Yiannopoulos permanently

Doesn't Milo claim he's gay by choice? Tied in with his agenda it seems a bit fishy to me because when he gets counter attacked he likes to say "How dare you criticize a gay man" as if to try to throw bigotry back in their face. I really think he may have decided to go with the gay angle to further his career.

But who knows. Perhaps he was born bisexual and then decided to only date men so he could be gay. It would be really sad if he was born straight and the forced himself to live a gay lifestyle to further his career but I wouldn't put it past Milo

Did some of you even look at Leslie Jones' twitter after Milo went after her? He didn't get banned because he didn't like Ghostbusters or because he's a Conservative, he got banned cause he sent his 300k followers after her and they proceeded to literally call her an ape for the whole fucking day. He also shared fake tweets/images of he calling him homophobic slurs. Seriously look at her twitter right now,
this is the shit that that human garbage encouraged.

Milo has been doing this for years, he made his name off of trying to ruin Zoe Quin's life and many more. His free speech is was not infringed upon, he got banned from a social media site for harassing people. It should've happened years ago.

I would love to hear an explanation of what is funny about him

I won't be able to tell you a specific example, but I've seen some interviews and debates featuring him and thought he was funny. He does have an annoying habit of acting in a way that feels like he's not paying attention to what other people are saying.

Yeah, this is completely unacceptable.

The only thing funny about Milo is the fact that he looks like you told someone they had 10 minutes to make a Power Rangers villain costume and called time after 5.

Years later I still don't fully understand what the fuck gamergate is.

At this point that's on you. It's pretty easy to follow. It's a harrassment campaign by a stalker ex that blew up virally, that used "ethics!" as a cover story. This is extremely well documented and someone with more time than I can walk you through it if you care.

You know, where he writes that he was encouraged by people within the industry who couldn't speak publicly, I believe him.

Always got the feeling the obliviousness of the industry was more than just indifference or apathy. Wouldn't surprise me at all that a lot more major developers than we think were either happy to ignore the shit GG was doing, or even felt empowered by it.

The only industry people that have supported GG have either been developers known to not pay their employees, were no longer relevant and were looking for a quick cash grab or 15 minutes of fame, or both. Don't let them feed off "you know, they want to say it, they just won't". The last time they used that tactic, Intel spent 300 million dollar specifically disagreeing with them on the matter.

For you and everyone who takes this as a genuine confession. This is sarcasm. I assume this is the result of making a statement that was taken as a GG argument and then having people dogpile on him.

Just go through the rest of his replies there, but he is making it clear precisely for the people who are quick to judge:

You, and many of the people that are responding to your link is the exact reason he is reacting like that. A statement is taken out of context or exaggerated and then people start to immediately dogpile on him and accuse him of things, which he refers to as the SJWs. It must be frustrating.

Notch says and does plenty of things I disagree with, but I don't think he is completely off the deep end.

EDIT:

And for the people who thinks he likes Milo or something, because again, they are quick to judge:

He takes the standpoint of wanting complete free speech which is why he goed for #FreeMilo. Which again, is something I disagree with, but I wouldn't say it makes him crazy.
I would like to think if I was the billionaire that he is with Beverly Hill's most expensive mansion that I would find myself occupied with better shit to do in my time than post a thousand tweets a day and get involved in internet wars about Gamergate and essjaydoubleyous.

Christ.

Milo is in many ways the perfect instigator. He might saying things but actions directs the alt-right's ire toward whatever he and his minions desire.

Hey pal, Gabe Newell trolls people on message boards on purpose with his free time. It is the sport of kings.

A bunch of conservatives who play games but also enjoy attacking women and saying racist shit.

Very basically.

In the beginning they had a very specific bone to pick with very specific women in gaming and systematically went through those women, attempting to get them fired (in some cases this was successful), attempting to drive them off social platforms (in many cases this was successful), and attempting to generally slander, harass, and make them miserable.

At one point during the first few months of Gamergate, we'd lost a great handful of women tech writers to these fucks. They'd either chosen to stop writing because of the harassment or their employers were tricked into firing them by mass spamming campaigns.

They've since transitioned into a less targeted, less centralized group of fucks.

Yes but, you see, Gabe actually has a job. Notch retired at 30 and has nothing better to do with his time that tweet nasty shit. Thats what Im referring to. Gabe may troll in his spare time but Notch has no spare time because every time is spare time!

Fucking finally. Sad that this happened this late. Now ban his crew of idiots that keep attacking his targets.

You realize that makes him look worse, right? At that point, most people who knew about GamerGate knew that it was bullshit. Wanting to burn bridges with people who don't think ethical video game journalism is worth harassing people over is not a good thing. Saying that he was a part of a harassment campaign (even sarcastically) in order to get some assholes out of his Twitter feed would be like someone saying they're a member of the KKK to get people they don't like out of their favorite bar. If he really was being honest about his intentions (though it's pretty clear that he wasn't), then that would make him an exceptionally idiotic person.

It's far more likely that Notch is a coward who tries to back off every time people call him out. He wants to support many of GamerGate's causes while still having the wiggle-room to say that he's not with them.

And for the people who thinks he likes Milo or something, because again, they are quick to judge:

Notch saying "Milo is a bit of a dick" is a great example of how he's trying to have it both ways. He gets to undersell how awful Milo is (and ignore the thing that got Milo banned) in a way that GGers could claim shows that he's not biased, while also championing another one of their pet causes. It's embarrassingly transparent.

Notch also said he wouldn't support GDQ, a charity event, if they continue to use Twitch. When pressed on it, he said it's their fault for not listening to him.

So he says he's not part of GG but yet goes on to say he just says shit to piss off SJWs....Thats not any better.

Yeah, I'm not buying it, either. Anybody who can't see how far he's fallen is simply fooling themselves at this point. Anybody who says SJW unironically is immediately a red flag. And it's easy to say "lol I was just joking/being sarcastic", but absolutely nothing in his behavior or tone demonstrates that. Sorry, but he's an ass.

give me a break. That's like whining when you get banned on GAF - you cannot cry 'freedom of speech' bullshit when you are at the mercy of someone else's platform. He wants 'complete freedom of speech'? Then use your billions to create your own social media platform and let peeps go hog wild... But, you wanna use someone else's? Then you are forever at the mercy of their TOS.

Wait a second! You're telling me Milo is gay? An alt-right, gamergater, Trump-lovin', Breitbart bloggin', ultra conservative gay man? That doesnt compute!
Alt-right is perfectly at home with homosexuality. That's what makes it "alt".

Conservatism has evolved and adapted.

As much as I support freedom of speech and to be able to say anything up to but not including an incitement for violence, this is a perfectly reasonable approach by twitter.

It's a private run social media platform. Much like any site or forum if they want to ban you they can, and it's not a human right to be allowed access to and contribution on a private site.

Milo is an asshole. You can support those tenants I laid out in my first sentence without being horrible to people. If you decide to exercise your freedom of speech to be terribly inhumane then your platform may well be shutdown if it's on a private site.

I'm indifferent to Twitter doing it, but I fully support their right to and understand why it has been done. He should not get the account back under any circumstance now. Never.

His own website or the one he is employed for can continue to foster freedom of speech. I wouldn't expect it to be shutdown or government to get involved as long as there is no incitement to violence. If he pays for the platform and it's legal that is fine. Twitter however is not a platform he owns and they can damn well ban him if they want.

Aaaaaah, nothing of value was lost. Insipid little cretin.

And the freedom of speech deal. You gave up your precious "right" when you skipped the Terms of Service and clicked "I Accept" on the platform in which you spew hate. By agreeing to Twitter's ToS, you accept that hate speech is bad and inflammatory/offensive shit could POTENTIALLY get you banned. I say potentially because it took Twitter far too long to go with this punishment. The platform holder decides what is and what isn't acceptable, and if you didn't find their terms acceptable, you should have looked for a different avenue or made your own.

They just don't want to stone them. After Orlando, a headline on the_donald was "We Love Our Fags".
That's a perfectly alt-right headline.

Okay with gay people but also "fuck you language police".

He's a billionaire who spends all of his time sitting alone in his mansion trying to troll online.
At least he's not bankrupting himself I assume, but man. I'd just play games and sleep all day if I got that kind of money and wanted to sit on it, not pick fights online.

The alt right doesn't like gay people, they just like "the good ones".

There's always been a homoerotic undertone to fascism anyway.

Being that the alt-right is a loose coalition of various interests, I'm sure you can find instances of classical homophobia. And I'd say it's typical that they might even consider the normalization of homosexuality in culture a left-wing overreach. Milo has said that he liked it better as a gay man when being gay was a fringe taboo activity where you do crazy things at the club, and that domesticating gays through marriage was a mistake.

But do understand that the alt-right is generally distinct from the traditional right, thumping a bible and being opposed to homosexuality in the classical manner. You have to understand that it's the 2010s, the needle has moved, and you don't have to be a homophobic fundamentalist Christian in order to be mad about feminism or socialism.

Milo's a self-hating gay man.

At least he's not bankrupting himself I assume, but man. I'd just play games and sleep all day if I got that kind of money and wanted to sit on it, not pick fights online.

Maybe it's just my perspective, but after getting billions of dollars, he seemed to socially regress.

No they aren't, they've just adopted Milo as their gay friend who gets to say the homophobic shit they wish they could say.
Some of them yes, some of them no.

I would just caution against draping the alt-right with traditional right clothing and thinking you understand the enemy.

A lot of us do this "gotcha! You're a secret homophobe. You said the word 'fag'". But that's us misinterpreting their trolling nature and making the mental shortcut that they are traditional conservatives.

They're far more interested in trolling "language police" than "correcting the sin of homosexuality".

It's not. There were people in the industry who supported GamerGate, some openly, others in secret. It's completely possible that some assholes in the industry are supporting him (maybe even the same assholes in that article), but are too cowardly to do so publicly.

There are people who support any cause you can think of in any number of industries. 100% agree.

Nonsense is the idea that its some secret silent majority or even meaningful number. Criticism of the initial silence and slow reaction is completely valid but that seemed to be the industry being slow to understand what actually, and the scale of what was happening.
