I JUMPED TO CONCLUSIONS, HUH? HUH!? TAKE THAT YOU GUYS

As someone who really enjoyed Nintendo's handhelds and consoles for all his life...well, fuck. That really bums me out. I enjoyed having two separate libraries to curate.

To people complaining about the power of the console, read this: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/d...-mobile-games-machine-powered-by-nvidia-tegra

It's a companion article and discusses the GPU. It actually sounds like a monster portable that will be better than WiiU, though maybe not XBO power. That's if it's not some special custom version of Tegra X2. It sounds pretty damn awesome honestly.

Although being Nvidia, I'm now concerned about Vulkan compatibility. Nvidia's chips aren't as good as AMD at Vulkan. Though we are talking about Maxwell and Pascal. Not sure about Tegra.

Why would ps5 be released in 2years?
They bring the ps4 neo, so expect another 4/5y before ps5 would be released.
Otherwise the just between ps4 and ps5 would be way to small.

2 years after NX launch so in 2019/2020. If Neo will come out this year it's not really hard to imagine PS5 in Holidays 2019.

Because I always wanted a handheld where you could snap the sides off and they become, like, two controllers...

Sounds far too toyish in concept for my own tastes, but I can already visualise the family in a restaurant with two kids with an NX propped up, playing MarioKart together. Local multiplayer has always been a focus for Nintendo, and it is one thing phones and tablets don't do well; in that sense, they could be on to something here.

Anyhow, awaiting the reveal.

I like the idea of a hybrid, especially for Nintendo. This does sound mighty appealing to me. The Tegra X1 has been in the market for more than years, and the shield TV is being sold at $200, so hopefully that means a $250
price. The bad news, it's that it isn't that much of an improvement over the WiiU.

Speculation thread, people gonna speculate. Dont see the issue.

There's a difference between "If this has an X1 it'll be super weak..." compared to "This console is super weak", especially when you write it off based on speculation alone.

Well, the Tegra X1 is high-end mobile chip, so in terms of raw power, it'd be more powerful than a WiiU.

I'm interested in this.

Based on what we know...how much more powerful than the Wii U is this likely to be?

We know it's not competing with PS4 or even XB1, so how big can the jump actually be?

Is this going to end up as basically a portable Wii U?

well, i've been saying for the best part of over half a year that this was going to be a rebranded Shield tablet with an N sticker on it and would thus be a hybrid.

It's great being right ;)

2) System will get easy ports from PS4/XB1

bwahahahaaaa - no.

Any reason why the WiiU *won't* dominate Japan?

Didnt know WiiU was a Nintendo portable.

Also this will be the only Nintendo system to buy this gen. So no more splitting userbases between handheld/console. Im a Nintendo fan at all so obv. im biased but i cant see the system failing in Japan...unless its a complete mess.

I'm not sure why people think something like this would be in the Wii U's ballpark?

A Tegra X1 is a 20 or 28nm Maxwell part. Pascal Tegra X2 16nm could easily be around 1tflop in a home.

Fucking lol at all the posters I would regularly see that were 100% certain it wouldn't be a hybrid
That's because Nintendo heavily implied it wouldn't be. Given how many times Nintendo have outright lied about shit though (3DS XL, Mobile, probably a load of stuff I've forgotten off-hand) it isn't particularly surprising that they were bulshitting once again.

Hybrid console is a good decision. You no longer need to split resources and you can get in on the mobile and console market at the same time. Don't see it as anything more than a secondary gaming device for most people though.

Guess I better stock up on my Wii U and 3DS library for the future. Kinda regret not buying more software yesterday during Best Buy's sale.

This is precisely what I thought it would be before Iwata denied the hybrid approach.
But it was the most logic thing for them to do. I don't think Nintendo is in a position to directly compete with Sony and Microsoft in the home console space.
They need a single dedicated hardware + a new focus on mobile.

I just want a new Metroid you fucks

The size of this thing is going to be interesting. It's going to need to be big enough to hold two standard size controllers for home console style use. It's going to be a big portable, I imagine.

I thought the hybrid was obvious from the start. As soon as they started combining all of their portable and console teams, as soon as they started releasing shit like Smash for 3DS and Smash for Wii U, NSMB2 and NSMBU, 3D Land and 3D World... the gap between their console and handheld was becoming non-existent.

shocking news neogaf: nintendo changes their mind about shit all the time. just because iwata vaguely implied one time that it wouldn't be a hybrid doesn't mean yall should have taken his word as gospel.

this could be a cool idea if they are pumping out like 8 first party games a year since they don't have to split resources between console and handheld releases anymore. but they're going to get fuck all third party support. again. I really don't think this idea is going to take the world by storm like the wii, so on the strength of first party alone, I don't see this doing much better than the gamecube, sales-wise.

They should have another version where there is no option for handheld for a much cheaper price for peiple who don't care for gaming on the go

Perhaps
NX Hybrid Portable - $250 March
NX Home System - $200 Fall

Isn't this what most of us expected?

I'm not sure betting on handheld is a good bet for Nintendo (unless they made Pokemon Go 2 exclusive or something).

As someone who really enjoyed Nintendo's handhelds and consoles for all his life...well, fuck. That really bums me out. I enjoyed having two separate libraries to curate.

It's not like you're going to be getting half the games. There will just be one unified pipeline which in theory, means Nintendo can service a lot more of it's IPs rather than make two different Mario/Kart/Zelda etc games every generation.
