I thought this was worthy of it's own thread. If not I apologize, it just baffles me that he can say this and likely get away with it.

Trump in his press conference right now has basically begged Russia to hack the US government to get the remaining emails from Hillary's server and make them public.

This is borderline treasonous and according to 18 US Code § 2384 qualifies for Seditious conspiracy.

"If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to...or by force to seize, take, or posses any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall be each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both."

I mean, I'm not comfortable saying it's treason because, understandably and rightly, the bar for treason is pretty fucking high. However, it's certainly not good. Treason-esque? Treason adjacent? Light treason?

Regardless, it's only his first offence!

Whats amazing is that asking another country to hack into his own country's private stuff is NOT the stupidest thing he has said this election. :D

Absurd and very worrying. In the same presser, he also said that Putin called Obama the n-word because he didn't respect him, but he's sure Putin will respect and like him.

Candidate to the US presidency actively wishes for Russia to hack into the US government solely to hurt political opponent.

What a time to be alive

Okay, at this point, he is literally advocating for a foreign power to undermine the government in which he hopes to serve as leader of.

This is basically treason. Like, not that it's a crime, he can say these things without getting arrested, so legally speaking, it's not treason, but he's literally saying he's supporting an attack on the US government from a foreign power. How is that not treasonous in it's intentions? What the fuck.

Obama and/or Joe will probably slam this tonight at the Convention. Also expect Hillary to rail him during the debates.

The fool threw an insane amount of gas on this fire that probably wasn't even a fire for many people. Now this isn't going to go away.

I wonder if there's anything he could say that would hurt him. Many things he's said would end the career of a normal politician.

Looking past the fact he is calling on the help of a hostile foreign power to attack a political opponent...didn't the FBI already recover the deleted emails?

it's not a crime to make what amounts to a joke or a sarcastic aside about an issue of public interest. like, really. the context here is:

people: trump, you're hooked up with russia
trump: well, if i was i hope they'd find *pivot to standard attack* crooked lyin' hillary's missing emails! make america great again! sad!

Diet Treason
It may qualify for sedition, which is basically Diet Treason.

Trump obviously doesn't understand how hacking works. It's not a "one thing or nothing" thing. And what makes him think they'll do what he says?

He basically is asking for the Kraken to be released. He won't be happy if the Russians decide to target him too.

They won't. They want him to be president.

Pretty unpatriotic, to put it very mildly.

At this point, with all the awful signals his campaign has been sending, any investigative journalist looking for a scoop and a Pulitzer are probably investigating him heavily.

Cool stuff, bro. They gonna find the 20+ million missing Bush emails? Actually while they're at it, can they leak your taxes too?

Considering his ties to Russia through his own business dealings and through Manafort we don't have the liberty to dismiss this as just a joke or sarcastic remark.

Yep. This is just Trump quickly using misdirection to draw attention away from accusations against him by saying something crazy. It's what his entire campaign has been built on.

Ah, okay, I didn't realize the context.

Not that I doubt he still hopes this happens, but he's atleast got an out.

It's certainly un-American, anyway.
