Trump 'hopes' Russia will hack US government for Hillary emails.

Dems are going to go the fuck in on this tonight. He is proving time and time again that he is completely unfit for office. He's sanctioning political espionage by a country we aren't exactly friendly with. If I didn't watch the video myself I would have a hard time believing this.

People that aren't absolutely appalled, embarrassed, and furious at this there is something very wrong. Will elder members of the GOP come out and speak to this?

I mean, if he *is* colluding with the Russians, they are probably doing a collective face-palm, sort of like how a D&D party would react when the guy in their party who dumped Charisma fails a Deception check.

Just leaving this here for all of youse saying this was a "joke"
Yeah, that's a great summary.

This is unprecedented

Despite Trump being an asshat, aren't we jumping the gun with the accusations of Treason? Meanwhile Hillary was/is grossly negligent and incompetent with handling of government emails and she gets a free pass. Not releasing those missing emails isn't doing her campaign any favors.

He tweeted this after the conference.

If Russia or any other country or person has Hillary Clinton's 33,000 illegally deleted emails, perhaps they should share them with the FBI!

Does that, in anyway, read like a joke?

He's not joking. He doubled down on twitter and told a reporter to "be quiet" when she tried to press him. He sincerely thinks what he said was okay.

I mean, those emails don't exist. To say someone should hand them over is a joke. And at this point the joke is on him with his Twitter responses. So yeah, I believe Trump said this as a joke and is now going double down on it like an idiot because it buys up headlines. He is dumb.

The GOP has gone from the party OF national security, to the party that is a national security threat.

Think about that. My, how far they have fallen ibto their echo chamber.

Let's put it this way, in a simplified manner: Clinton has access to important state emails, and ttakes them home on a USB stick when she was told she shouldn't. Trump is asking for Russia to break into her house and steal them.

The entire point of the scandal with Clinton's email servers is that someone could have stolen the emails more easily if they had wanted to. Fortunately nothing happen. But Trump is asking for the very theoretical worst-case scenario of the Clinton email scandal to come true.

That's why it's bad, and worse than Clinton taking home the emails.

Why simplify it? It's already simple. Clinton didn't take a usb stick home. The server was at her home, unknown to the state department.

She deleted tens of thousands of emails. Best case scenario she deleted unclassified information and is in violation of the Freedom of Information Act. Worst case scenario there was classified information within the deleted emails and she is in violation of the Espionage Act.

This isn't her taking home a few emails at the end of the day and I have no idea why you would portray it as such.

Hillary did not get a free pass. Her polls tanked from the email scandal.

I just feel like this presidential campaign has been like the longest version of the Producers ever.

"If I say this thing, surely people will stop voting for me!"
"Whaddaya mean it didn't work?"

We've had this discussion enough already.

Even if it's that. Why does making that kind of joke, okay for a presidential candidate about to be elected? Not a single person in this thread has given a good defense. I really want to know.

I hope Bush 41 the elder speaks out on broadcast news and denounces Trump as a traitor.

I remember the day when the Berlin Wall fell, it doesn't matter if you were a Republican or a Democrat, it was an insane happy day and it was all over TV

I can't believe that Trump would stab the US and the West in the back by siding with Putin and poke Russia to commit cyber-crimes

Trump is a traitor and every Republican Rino must denounce him immediately

Not according to the Washington Post

I don't know if he was joking, if he was it was in pour taste. Even then if you view someone as criminal (regardless of what the authorities find) you are going to want "justice" and that "justice" might have you turning to whomever can assist, in this case Russia. With that said Trump's comments againsts Muslims, Hispanics and Blacks I feel do more damage to the country then any of this email stuff. He is encouraging racism and bigotry and hurting innocent people and continuing to divide this country. He does not bring people together in unity.

Hillary did not get a free pass. Her polls tanked from the email scandal.
Maybe not so much with polls, but if it was anybody else the media would be all over that person demanding everything on their server.

I wish people would stop attributing most if not all of the shit he says and does to ignorance.

You mean to tell me that a part of him doesn't wish that exactly what he said would happen? You really think so?

Really?

Not at all?

Why do so many people chalk up Trump's errors to stupidity rather than malice?

I'm not trying to defend Trump or anything. It just seems like a lame attempt at a joke. Obviously those emails do not exist anymore. Saying that anyone should hack into her account and find those emails is of course impossible at this point.

So yeah go ahead and be outraged, I'm sure as heck not gonna stop ya.

But even IF it were a joke, that would still make it unacceptable. It's like Trump claiming he was joking about how his supporters should assault protesters. At worst it's inciting criminal activity. At best it shows he doesn't take criminal activity seriously.

How many times has Trump even told jokes in Press Conferences? The dude isn't exactly a jovial prankster...

The implication, is that the server was hacked before the emails were deleted. I am not sure why I have to explain this.

I think Trump is dumb enough to not understand that those emails are truly gone. So he's asking for something that he thinks can actually be done.

Its not a matter of whats possible or not. You're missing the point. I dont care if these supposed emails even exist. Why you should actually give a fuck is because a potential President of US is asking foreign power to hack into his political opponent and expose emails when she was working with for the US government as Sec of State. It's not an off-handed remark. Watch the video. Joke or no joke, this one cant be ignored.

At this point, I would take a deal if both of them step down for the greater good of the nation.

So... let's just say that Trump does win this november...(hopefully it never get to that) Isn't there some high position group or person that can decide "No, this guy is too reckless/dangerous/unfit to be the president." if Trump keep saying more crap like this?

Or is it always "we're forced to accept the will of the people, no matter how much of a disaster it will be?"

He could be impeached day 1 after being sworn in.

Agreed, I think this is a big enough deal to get some to denounce him. Pence is distancing himself and Ryan just released a strong statement against russia.

I honestly think Bush 41 still has some clout in the Republican party. If he were to do it, Repubs would listen.

Hillary supporters: lock him up
Trump supporters: lock her up

The "it's just a joke" defense applies to the Republican frontrunner calling for the Russians to hack into the state department to dig up dirt to discredit his political opponent, but not to random everyday people ironically echoing a chant from a mock trial.

Okay.

Both Congress and the FBI thoroughly investigated Clinton's behavior and determined that it was negligent but not criminally so. I think its fair that we have a Congressional committee investigate Trump's ties to Russia for the next six months.

God damn traitor.

I'm not even one to defend the US government but he wants a pseudo fascist like Putin to influence the elections of a country that's far more democratic than his.

Doesn't the GOP consider Russia to be a massive national sercuity threat? Yet Trump is deep throating putin

He was asked point blank during the press conference if he would denounce Putin if Russia is behind the hack and he refused. Something's going on people, something's going on.

Okay.

Not the State Department, but her personal email server.

I guess. Stupid man says stupid thing, again. I'm not nearly as surprised or shocked as everyone else is apparently. Curious to see what happens now.

And if they don't find anything-- Be sure to repeat said investigation 6 more times, the American people have the right to know the truth!

The fucking blatant cognitive dissonance here. Trump and the GOP have spent all this time being offended that classified information MIGHT have been exposed, and now Trump goes RELEASE ALL THE INFORMATION...

I'm half expecting him to joke about how he wants to nuke California and people to come to his defense saying "But no one like them anyway" like there's any context that can make it pallatable that a US candidate want to nuke a part of his country.

Lester Holt's latest tweet:

"Russia is a global menace led by a devious thug. Putin should stay out of this election," Speaker Ryan spokesman says after Trump comments.

He was trolling. I don't understand why people still don't get that Trump is a master at saying things that get under people's skin and twisting the knife. Then those statements get reported as news.

For example, a month or so ago he was giving an interview to the New York Times. It's well documented Trump hates the Times. They pressed him on if he really wanted to go ahead with the nomination and become President. He made a flippant comment about not going through with it if he wins, and the next day headlines were: "Trump will quit if elected"!

Guys, when are you going to get it?

It doesn't matter. He knows how to play the media and it's proven to work. Even if his own party disavows him, it won't matter.
