Trump 'hopes' Russia will hack US government for Hillary emails.

A lot of people allergic to wanting the truth around here. Let me guess, Snowden should go to jail also shouldn't he? smh

So you're arguing that as long as we get to find out what is in Clinton's email, advocating another government to hack your adversary's email is ok? As a presidential candidate this is excusable? Wow.

funny how a republican candidate can state that he hopes a foreign country (and russia no less) hacks the US.

its like trump said. he can kill people on the street and nobody would give a shit.

This isn't the "making fun of people racists and similar people already hate" that Trump's gotten away with until now, this is advocating a breach of national security. I highly doubt people aren't going to give a shit with this one.

Seriously. All the Dems need to do is run commercials of all the times Trump has advocated for Putin and Russia. It's pretty much over from there.

This. You're never going to get a racist to stop being racist but you can show them that their golden boy Trump is in, whether literally or not, with "the reds". If this world had any semblance of logic this will really hurt Trump's standing with the Baby Boomer crowd.

Its not like he even just randomly shat this out in a midnight tweet. This childish fuck of a man held a press conference, looked into the camera and straight up asked the Russians to hack US files to uncover dirt on his opponent.

Lets be done with this fucking farce already. Can we all just stop pretending this man deserves any authority whatsoever? That this is anything besides sick entertainment?

In fairness to the press conference idea, no one is talking about how he blamed Tim Kaine for messing up New Jersey.

I just want a President I could have a beer with while discussing the merits of mild treason.

Brilliant strategy.

The public will be drawn away from the convention highlights.
The public will be reminded of Clinton email scandal.
This goes to further the narrative that Clinton, DNC and the State Department are soft on security.
This re-enforces the notion that there is more dirt to uncover, and why be upset if there is nothing else to uncover.
This leaves the door open, and the public waiting for a shoe to drop on what exactly Clinton deleted.

I expect Trump and related to say something to the effect: "This would not be a problem if she and everyone around her did not compromise security." For the entire campaign.

I have a guy at work who is a Trump supporter. When asked his opinion on this he said "Forget about what he said. What is the root cause here? It's the fact Hillary even had a private server for Russia to try and hack!"

Then says he doesn't understand how my logic works.

Applying "They were asking for it!" to NATIONAL SECURITY. That's a new one.

If there is any line of attack that could lose Trump's support amongst his base, it would be implying that he's a tool of the Russians.

Given his anti-NATO and pro-Russian comments, it would be pretty easy to paint such a picture.

Well, let's not act like the media is totally clueless either. They know Trump = ratings, and there's a good reason why only a select few have truly taken him on to try and take him down. They know once crazy Trump is gone, so too are the ratings that he's assuredly provided in a time with TV ratings are on the decline.
Yeah, true.

I'll be glad when this ride ends but, for now, it's stunning in so many ways to witness XD

Who in this thread thinks Trump should go to prison for mere words, and that Hillary shouldn't for actual actions that may have led to leak of state secrets to Russia?

Seems like neogaf.gif is alive and well here, so hypocritical...

As far as I'm concerned it'd be best if they both went and shared a cell :) (although I don't see what one could charge Trump with, maybe hate speech but it might be a reach...)

I don't agree with what Trump said about Snowden but unfortunately I don't think his thoughts are that different from the rest of Washington, they're just afraid to say it. Why else do you think he's still in Russia.

Just because we live in a certain country shouldn't mean that we are be okay with our government being completely corrupt and lying/hiding it from us. You guys are literally accusing the people trying to expose corruption instead of blaming the ones that are corrupted. It's like the twilight-zone in here.

Is there precedent for people going to jail for doing something that MAY have led to leaks to foreign governments? All examples I've seen weren't "may have led" -- they were "intentionally gave/leaked"

Edit: and to be clear, I'm not suggesting trump go to jail for saying this

You don't get it, all he has to do is go up there and shout, spew a couple insults and get some jabs in; then roll with the hits Benghazi, Emails and he's fine in the eyes of his base.

His base isn't big enough to elect him and it will only shrink once it becomes clear that he is stooging hard for Putin and his ilk.

I'm not a lawyer but don't think it should necessarily matter whether whether foreign governments were able to actually retrieve secrets that were left wide open.

If I become a secret agent and casually drop secret stuff on the street while walking my dog, I should probably go to prison. Obviously that's not exactly what Hillary did, but you get the idea.

None of Trump's previous comments hurt him because there was nothing for those comments to hurt - his only base of supporters were the kind of people who found those sort of comments appealing. No one who would find questioning a natural born judge's loyalty to the the United States because of his Mexican ancestry unacceptable was supporting Trump, thus he lost no support for those remarks. However, these sort of comments being repeatedly made do put more and more weight on top of Trump's ceiling.

These recent comments in conjunction with the pattern of evidence as previously enumerated in this thread could serve to actually hurt Trump among his base of Republicans - and also of course just adds another weight to the crushing pressure pushing down on his ceiling.

Completely agree about the need for that neogaf.gif right about now. The blind bias around here is amazing. They are siding with someone who has actually been caught committing crimes against their country.

Brilliant strategy.

It's actually a terrible strategy and only provides an even greater contrast between Trump's idiocy and the DNC itself.

The public will be drawn away from the convention highlights.

LOL, no it won't. People are gonna tune in to hear Obama, they're not gonna instead spend all their time on Breitbart furiously searching for the next hacking development.

The public will be reminded of Clinton email scandal.

Only the nutjobs who like to remind themselves about the email scandal at the drop of a napkin.

This goes to further the narrative that Clinton, DNC and the State Department are soft on security.

I've never heard this from anyone at all. Where are you getting this from?

This re-enforces the notion that there is more dirt to uncover, and why be upset if there is nothing else to uncover.

They already released shit on Monday and it has already fallen flat. The "dirt" only sticks if there's actual dirt, and Wikileaks has been arm flailing the past week trying to legitimize their leak and failing.

This leaves the door open, and the public waiting for a shoe to drop on what exactly Clinton deleted.

Conspiracy nutjobs will always "wait for the shoe to drop". They're still "waiting for the shoe to drop" on Obama being a secret Kenyan Muslim. Not to mention this hacking and/or leak has absolutely nothing to do with Clinton, it's exclusively a DNC hack.

People are waaaaay too quick to pretend that Trump is a "master manipulator" or a "genius". I don't even know what the constant spin on that is even supposed to accomplish.

Oh boy, I wonder why everybody turned on the heroic whistleblowers that couldn't be assed to redact irrelevant content so the personal information of citizens wouldn't be exposed.
