Why is Shadow Warrior an open world procedurally generated loot shooter now?

I don't know, but I lost interest completely, which is a shame considering I enjoyed the first game. Have no interest in procedurally generated games...

I'm a bit more interested in this now.

It's not like this was going to top Doom anyways.

Speaking of, how did Doom go from a super fast FPS to a slow paced horror shooter. Designers decide to switch it up and sometimes it works.

Comparing this to Doom 3 makes it even weirder for me.

You're right in that it doesn't really make sense from how the Shadow Warrior 1 was laid out but it's basically just the game that they wanted to make essentially. The footage has looked fantastic so far though so just giving me a reason to cut things up is fine by me. I'm looking forward to it a lot.

That is a mouth full but I hope they add co op to that list of stuff .

Has 4 player coop.

I don't care that it has loot or random generation, as long as it's fun and the levels generated don't feel same'y or dumb I'm in, gameplay-wise it still looks like a ton of fun.

They already did.

I think it sucks too. And no, the last one was not "just an arena shooter", I thought it was a pretty good modernization of the original.

So will it be just 4 Wangs running around?

For the record, I don't think this looks bad just very unexpectedly different. It already looks a million times better than the Borderlands games gameplay wise.

Yeah, they lock you in at points but a lot of it is just general FPS level traversal with enemies here and there.

That's a good question. I 'think' it's supposed to be that each player is Wang but they appear different to the other players in coop on their screens. Maybe the TotalBiscuit video will show more, not had a chance to watch it yet. My biggest hope is that they've beefed up the weapons other than the katana (which was always superb even in the first game). Thankfully it looks like they have.

I expected them to expand on the ideas of the original - which albeit a lot of fun was technically an utterly mediocre game - not scrap them and turn the game into some lootwhore RPG coop shooter, specially after playing Doom.

I believe it's Wang to every player and on their screen the other players appear as generic ninjas.

Ah ok thanks, that would make sense :) Hell I mean if you're going to go that way anyway let me choose some crazy skins to use.

Because four wangs are better than one, really.

I do think this looks like a sizeable improvement from the last game, especially from a gameplay perspective.

Hopefully the armor you get is actually modeled on the characters. Haven't heard much about it.

Well, the core mechanics seem to be there (as in the combat seems a better version of the first one), they just changed things up. The videos from the game are quite good.

Also, it's not exactly procedurally generated. All the leves are hand-made, what is procedural is, like, environmental stuff (storms, day/night, etc) and since these levels are made of "rooms", the way the game alocates the rooms changes everytime you begin a level.

I think it will surprise quite a lot of people.

“The levels are randomly generated,” Paweł Kowalewski, one of the game designers of Shadow Warrior 2, told me at PAX.

“If you look around,” he said, turning to face the several people playing the game on different screens behind us, “everyone is playing the same mission, but each of them is playing on a slightly different level layout, or in different weather conditions or a different time of day. So, we want to keep the experience fresh, whenever you’re replaying the same mission, or restarting your game.”

I love everything I'm seeing except the number pop ups on bullet dmg. Should be easy enough to turn off though. Adding loot to Shadow Warrior hits all the right buttons for me personally.

Yep, i cant see how it is a bad things.
And coop, good coop will be amazing in this game. Me and my friend I cant wait for it to release. One of my the most anticipated titles of this year for sure.

This is what happens with a relic of an IP and no idea what to actually do with it, after making a competent and moderately enjoyable reboot. You throw a bunch of shit at the wall, borrowing from current popular mechanics, and hope it sticks. Doing a lot of things competently instead of doing a few things extremely well, basically.

Maybe they still have ever time to make it a survival and crafting game too.
