BvS was a waste of my money and time. The fact that I'm hearing that it's not even entertaining bad just leaves me wanting to skip.

I just wanted something entertaining, bad or good. Really wish movies tickets weren't so expensive now a days

what about joker though? yes or no?

Big no.

I almost went to an IMAX screening of this and I am so glad I decided on a regular showing and not pay extra.

Just stepped out of the cinema too and i agree with the general sentiment. Joker is just a glorified mob boss.

Well that sucked. For what it's worth, no one in my group of friends disliked it as much as I did, but no one found it particularly good either. It actually made me appreciate BvS and MoS more, at least those had Zack Snyder's directorial style and a certain creative direction they wanted to take the DC/WB universe in. This was fairly unremarkably directed (none of the action was that exciting), with an overbearing soundtrack that reeked of last minute studio interference, and a lame story that never goes all in on its comic nihilism and tries way too hard (and fails) to make the heroes sympathetic. The reviews had brought my expectations down, but at worst I expected it to be unremarkable but entertaining. I never thought it'd be this bad. In a year when we have a comic book movie as good as Civil War, it's actually embarassing.

The reviews for this movie are actually upselling it. Felt embarrassed for WB while watching it. I don't even know where to start with everything that was wrong in this movie smh.

That's how I feel too. I actually considered walking out at several points.

Holy shit I don't even feel like watching it anymore. Bvs was tragic how much worst can this be. I had a feeling the trailers were made to trick people. Might be the second movie I either fall asleep or walk out on.

Goddamn some of you guys are more savage than the critics. I'm planning on watching it tomorrow but might change my mind while I'm there if it's this bad. Maybe Star Trek idk.

Star Trek was really solid. My favorite of the reboot trilogy easily, felt like an adventurous episode of the show.

Half of the squad members are pretty one dimensional. I dont know much about the history for some of the characters, but i feel terribly bad for Katana for some reason.

I feel like i must have watched a different movie than you guys, I just got out of an early screening and I loved it! Id say, enjoy it for what it is, a fun comic book movie. Harley quinn and deadshot were great. And hey, if I just have bad taste, thats fine, but just know this is coming from someone who thought bvs was a boring turd...but I liked man of steel (CAN GAF TRUST ME!? :O)

I liked it.

Joker is a mob boss, but there were moments where I could see a better Joker coming through.
Tattoos are still arse.
I liked all the Squaddies, though thought that Eastwood got pretty high billing for his one line.
Some of the character moments felt pretty forced.
Waller is a straight up boss.
Parts of it were pretty funny.

Mid credits scene, no post credits scene.

I liked MoS, and BvS.

Just came out of the theater, and the movie really is bad. The first hour is a jumbled mess of trailer clips, with trailer pop songs abruptly edited in. None of the "emotional" scenes feel earned, the quips aren't that funny.

I know that gaffers like to make jokes about Nolan's fight choreography, but this movie's fight scenes are badly shot, especially the final battle.

I know people are a bit hurt right now so I'll just post positive things from the movie

- Will Smith is a solid Will Smith, he's playing himself but pretty much keeping the movie afloat as well as he can
- Margot Robbie is having fun (but damn there's gonna be thesis books on that male gaze stuff)
- Enchantress has nice outfits and good-looking magic effects
- El Diablo seemed like a really boring character but turned out ok

I really disliked Man of Steel, didn't bother to see BvS and this one didn't really hurt me. It's pose-y, juvenile, style-over-substance kinda stuff, very teen-ish. But it's also very comic booky which was lacking in DC stuff. Maybe it helps I don't care about the comic Suicide Squad characters at all so had no expectations at all.

I just saw it. I liked it, and the music really added to it (think I might get the soundtrack) but think I might have to go again as the sound was a bit dull in the theater I was in.

Anyway quite a bit reminded me of The Mummy or the original Ghostbusters films. Thought what Margot did with Harley was really cool, and liked how they showed her in different costumes. It was cool to see a scene in the credits too (not after all the credits, but like mid credits) unfortunately not a lot of people were aware so they left.

My theater was full and people mostly liked it.

Some critics in my country are also more indulgent towards it.

People loved Harley and Joker 100% though. (so did I)

Interesting how things can differ.

Half the thread makes me not want to see it and half the thread does. Seems like more people like it than BvS though which is good. Hopefully it ends up at least getting "middling" reviews. I really like the concept, style and characters so I hope they get a second chance to do better.

My theater was enjoying the movie a lot.

Laughed out loud at every funny bits.

This was so horribly written that I find it difficult to believe that anyone was laughing sincerely. I don't think there was a problem with the casting, cast is good(apart from Enchantress) - but the script was awful, the jokes were flat, the characters boring and inauthentic.
Glad I was pretty high while watching this, if I was sober I might regret it more than I do right now.
It wasn't even a particularly fun action movie either

Agreed. I gave up on the movie and was ready to split during that dumb scene where
The Enchantress makes Deadshot, Rick and Harley imagine their perfect lives and the fire guy all like, "Nooo, it's not real holmes." And the three of them are standing there like dumbasses all, "Oh yeah, it's not real." Followed by Latino Fire Man's lame ass self sacrifice.
I don't know how anyone watched that part with a straight face or managed to still forgive the movie afterwards. Superhero movies have been better than this for a long time.

I thought it was decent, audience laughed quite a bit as well. Cast were solid and I thought Margot was great.

Not convinced on Leto yet, need to see more of him. He really came across as a psycho compared to ledger

Well that settles it then.
Just going to take a load of edible weed and watch this stoned out of my mind tomorrow.
Hopefully there will be a better cut of the film released on Blu Ray - or is it completely beyond repair?

The premise is good. It's the edit that fucks it up, so I would think a longer cut would make it better.

At the very least, the soundtrack combined with the weed will mean you'll still have a good time :-P

Doubt you saw it, he's easily the best and shows far more sides to him than the last jokers

Opinions dude.

I loved this Joker. But I can understand some people don't.

That being said, far too many people are going in ready to hate him and don't even give him a chance, and because of the reception of the movie they're like "yeah he sucks I told you".

Kinda garbage. This Joker has a lot of potential.

As you said he isn't just the "hot topic gangsta", he is very classy too at times. Kinda wish he'd get his teeth fixed and tattoo removed, I feel like they are a little too distracting. But overall solid performance.

He isn't helped by the editing and overall writing.

His first scene was also literally cringe (the nightclub). The others were good/great.

The movie has issues, but Jai Courtney is bloody brilliant, some great delivery, a ton of charisma, glad to see him finally bring his A game in a big Hollywood blockbuster -- and actually get to be Australian!

Also, the first thirty or so minutes are really strangely put together, it's very circular -- first we meet the squad in prison, and we get a bit of character from each of them. Then Amanda Waller introduces them more formally in the restaurant scene, and we get flashbacks for each of them there. Then in another Amanda Waller meeting we get introduced to them again, and shown more flashbacks. It just feels like the first act does a loop three times before continuing. At the very least it has a decent pace and momentum to it, something the second act really falters with.

Also -- on The Joker. He's kind of a non entity, he has a couple of scenes where Leto just kind of does his thing, and it's quite a compelling thing, but the Joker focus is primarily all on his Harley relationship -- which is good for Harley's character but it doesn't do a ton for the Joker, he's pretty undermined by her.

Ropeguy wasn't even invited to the premiere?

That's harsh, man.

Seriously, how many seconds of screen time does that due have, does he even have lines?

That's good to hear, hopefully they announce an extended cut soon.

Yeah that's the plan! Hopefully there are some interesting visuals too. Being high makes almost every film at least a little bit better anyway :)

He has like 3 mins of screentime...can't remember if he has any line.

While the licensed soundtrack was great -- basically everything you heard in the trailers and much more, the actual integration felt odd. Each little vignette / scene in the beginning opened with a new song, it gave the whole first twenty-thirty minutes a very 'music video' feel to it, it didn't help that one of the first Joker / Harley scenes has some bizarre psychedelic transitions.

The scenes came and went quick early on, so new music started up so frequently, it was really throwing me off. It really makes me feel like the were trying to recreate the magic of Guardians of the Galaxy's soundtrack, although without the mixtape context that made that so endearing.

Then when you get to the first action scene and there's a really dull, boilerplate orchestral score. It kills most of that first action scene, the action just doesn't have any rhythm to it without a good score.

With all the positive talk about Jai, it seems likely that he'd appear in The Flash movie, right?

I don't know anything about Jai Courtney's character outside of this movie, but given what we see here I think it's quite likely.

Still super stoked to see this. Waiting sucks so much when everybody is talking about it already, good or bad I just wanna finally see it myself. Hoping for something simple and fun, though the editing problems people mentioned have me the most worried. That article about WB butchering the editing is brutal, I hate studios sometimes. Also, the comics wars stuff is cringy as shit and some people take review scores way too seriously but fuck if it's not entertaining.
