The posters up in midtown Manhattan NYC are pretty eye-catching. Took them with an Axon 7 zoomed in about 80% if anyone was wondering.

Will catch it at the IMAX theater tomorrow.

Juat got back from the cinema, tone is all over the place, action scenes arent very good, but hell, i liked it, and for reference, i loated BvS tc, and kinda tolerated the EC, im still on the fence about the Joker though...

Welp, I loved it, problems and all. Had a really fun time watching this in a packed house with cheering and laughing and clapping. If I am honest I was nervous as hell going in with the RT percentage and am very happy I enjoyed the movie.

Side note:

Leto's Joker was fucking terrible. They should've recut it to remove his try-hard ass completely. Worst part of every scene he was in.

Yep. It makes all that stuff that happened on set even more stupid. He's the worst part of an already bad movie. I hope we don't have to deal with him too much in future DC movies.

Deadshot and Harley Quinn>everything else in this movie. I wanted this to be better.

Hell Man of Steel is better, Batman v Superman was better in some aspects and worse in others.

Come on DC, we need really great movies again!!!

Recasting is unnecessary. You can just change the character.

Well, as long as he's not married to that performance and interpretation, you could theoretically hand wave it by having him be in a "mood", and show a different persona next

I went from hyped to see that version vs Batfleck to not wanting to see him again at all. Shockingly uninspired take on the character.

I straight up enjoyed it. Deadshot was awesome, humour was good but movie kept it's serious tone. Joker was okay, last 30 min a bit lame and i wish it was more violent. First half a 10/10 second half a 6/10.

MoS 6.5/10
BvS 7/10
SS 8/10

For reference, Guardians of the Galaxy 9.5/10. Civil War 8/10.

I can not believe this is the best DCEU film and it's still bad.

Tone all over the place
Villains are kinda pointless or serve no purpose.
Deadshot should have been the focus.
3rd act is even worse than GOTGs fight with Ronan.

I just got back. Overall, I'm surprised by how much I liked it. The opening is terribly paced, and it's clear this is where the edits occurred most. From the get go, we get treated to 3 licensed songs being played back-to-back-to-back. Frankly, it was distracting. Some enjoyable moments nonetheless. After, the film truly kicks off and there's humor abound and the majority of it hits. Action is mediocre to forgettable, but the film stays fun with the characters. Overall a 7/10 from. Definitely flawed, but it's a fun movie.

And about the joker, we're going back to a gangster take on the character. I thought I would hate it but I loved it. Think original concept, but modernized. Will take people a while to get used to, but it works.
If you hate millenial culture, prepare to be triggered by this film

Just saw it, pretty disappointing :( not going to write up a whole review, but I'll just say I'm surprised how poor the action scenes were, you'd figure they would at least get that right. Instead we got a bunch of slow motion shots of the squad gunning down the Putty Patrol from power rangers.

Also unless I'm mistaken, anyone else notice there appeared to be some joker scenes from the trailer cut out of the movie?

Can I just ask if anyone else is wondering how Netflix is now feeling about their purchase of Max Landis's Bright script with Ayer attached to it? Not so much the script or the money, but the guy supposed to direct or produce it. I mean, that 'brief history of suicide squad' article is a huuuuuuge red flag.

Do they have an awesome dance battle, too? :D

No, I actually thought the final battle against the villain was one of the highlights of the film really.

Leto Joker was pretty bad. I don't mind the gangster direction, but his interpretation of it is just awful. You could tell Leto was trying his best to wring out whatever he could from the few lines he had because he was stretching and slurring every single word like he was drunk/high.

Cross-post from the DCEU Community thread.

Okay, so I am finally back home. Drafthouse was not worth it. Very likely never returning there. Nothing bad happened but the price was not worth the drive or quality of food. And the seats were basically shoulder to shoulder plus the waiters zipping past you every 4 minutes was really distracting. Anyways....

Movie was okay. If I had to rate it I'd give it a 6.5. Not bad enough to be a straight 6, but enough problems to miss 7. If you want some fun there's fun to be had here. Shits all over BvS in this regard. There's nothing deep here though. It's all pretty basic stuff.

First , the characters: (From best to worst)

Amanda Waller: Goddamn did Viola Davis standout. She just owned every scene she was in and received the only full audience reaction during one scene in particular.

El Diablo: From the squad itself he somehow managed to shine brightest for me. Only one who seemed to have any real thought put into his character. Had the least amount of odd dialog choices and sold his tragic background better than the rest. Even topped Big Willy in this regard. For me anyway.

Deadshot: Smith was here to play and he played. What keeps him from being my number one was... too much Smith, not enough Deadshot. Smith is so likable that it's easy to forgive however. The stuff with his daughter was great.

Harley Quinn: Margot did her best and it was really good but I'll detail my problem with her down below because it also plays into a problem with Joker and the movie as a whole.

Joker: See above.

Boomer: Had some funny lines but that's about the only reason he's higher than the rest below.

Enchantress: When she was being creepy it worked really well. When she was being flashy it came off as ridiculously campy. I liked it but I can see where there would be a large audience disconnect here.

Flag: Ups and downs. Sometimes Joel was in and other times it felt like they used the 200th take and he was just spitting the lines out with no effort like he was just done. Sometimes he came off as hardened and other times it was like he was a country boy. Sometimes he was cold and other times he was human. No real consistency but the good stuff was definitely in there at times.

Killer Croc: Offered nothing. Had one funny line but it got the lightest of chuckles out of me and I'm easy to make laugh.

Slipknot: If you've seen the trailers you've seen like 99.8% of his screentime. Punched a lady, touched his neck, nodded at Boomer, died. Yea, he died. If you didn't see that coming from the second his character was announced I can't help you. But just the fact that something happened with him puts him higher than...

Katana: If I spent a week thinking about it I could not provide a reason for her to be in this movie. Not one standout moment, or piece of dialog, or anything. Even the cool moment with her eyes turning black in the trailers is not here. Her entire screen presence consisted of walking and standing ready to take her sword out or put her sword back. What I've typed here took more effort than what was required of Karen in the movie.

I left the villain out because just about anything I say there is spoiler territory but there isn't much to tell anyway.

Now my problem. What keeps this movie from being substantially better than it should be. It is insanely obvious there is a lot missing. Even the lady I was with brought this up on the way back to my car. This movie was chopped and they didn't attempt to cover it up at all. And the parts it hurt most were Harley and Joker. You can tell there's a bigger story going on but as is you just can't buy it. What little there is of Joker (and I do mean little, we're talking 3-4 minutes TOPS) seems like it could be something great but they don't hang on him enough to let you feel anything.

Overall, I had a good time but I can see why a critic would go hard on this movie. My date absolutely loved it and she's about as casual a movie goer there is. Lot of laughs from the audience during most of the jokes but like I said before only Waller got a full blown reaction from everyone. If you go in just looking to see some of your favorite characters fuck around for a couple of hours you'll walk away satisfied. If you're looking for something layered it ain't here unfortunately. It's ties to the rest of the DCEU are basically Superman died. It begins and ends with that. Pretty much in the same scene. There's a mid credit scene but `it felt pointless considering what we've all already seen.

I may have more to say once I've been able to sleep on it tonight but I think I got all I wanted out for now.

My thoughts from the DCEU OT:
Saw it last night.

I understand why it reviewed badly, christ.

First half was fucking abysmal. Character introductions felt so inorganic. Was just flashbacks bookended with the same Amanda Waller scene. Everything up to the villain reveal seemed like it had all of the connective tissue cut out. It was just a bunch of scenes that didn't fit together. Like someone taking a jigsaw and forcing random pieces together: You could tell it was the same movie, but the picture didn't make sense.

The second half was great though. Everything after the point where
they rescue Amanda Waller
was excellent. Everything felt a lot more cohesive. The actors performances were all great, and the second half actually had the cinema laughing out loud quite a lot. Not sure if the second half was the part where there was no studio meddling or whether it was actually Ayer responsible for the first half and the studio meddling actually saved the movie. Saying that, considering how the first part was almost trailer-like, I'm guessing that's where the rumoured trailer team got involved if those rumours are any where near correct.

Real shame that it came to this. I think my ranking would go:

Second half of Suicide Squad > BvS UC > MoS > BvS TC > Thor 2 > First Half of Suicide Squad.

Saw it last night in IMAX 3D it was a dumb fun summer movie. Surprisingly I thought Will Smith's Deadshot character was pretty good, I liked his character arc.

I would have loved to see a Justice League Dark team-up movie go against the main villains.

I think we needed more time with Joker it hard truly say he good or bad because we seen fuck all of him in this cut. Think any actor would struggle to make a impact with just 5/9 lines in whole film heck we seen more in trailers then film.

I be interested in a smaller film which was just Joker turning Harley and follow them all way to getting caught.

I'm actually surprised by how much I disliked it. I'm super disappointed cos I was hoping this would be the DC movie that fixed everything for me, but yeah, I hated it. Needed much more Batman, much more Joker to be even serviceable.

You think this movie is as good as Civil War?

Angry Joe loved the shit out of it.

The movie is very polarizing.

Most people I talk to say it's okay, enjoyable but not great.

Here it's the worst thing ever.

I do have to say I'm annoyed that Ghostbusters was praised and you were called a sexist pig / MRA for hating on it, while this gets trashed left and right and it's "normal". :/

Gaf gonna Gaf.

I don't think ghostbusters was praised, more that people wanted it to be judged on its merits and not that a bunch of arsehole MRA's decided it was bad just on the woman cast.

I mean new ghostbusters wasn't good either. Not sure which I dislike more.

I didn't like BvS, but that was 100 times better than this.

This was shockingly inept at basic filmmaking - like edits that flow, plot/pacing that makes sense. There are stretches where nothing happens, and then shit just escalates unnaturally.

Most damning tho, the thing is just a boring dud with bad action. There's no cool set pieces. It's bizarre.

I need help.

Remember that Kelhani gangsta theme ?

Well now that she released the real single, the other instrumental version has entirely disappeared and got taken down everywhere I can look for.

Can you guys help ? I highly prefer the instrumental version over her singing.

I think people were called sexist pigs/MRAs for hating Ghostbusters for casting four women in the lead roles, not for hating Ghostbusters as a movie.

No i'm not talking about the trailers and all that. When the movie released they kept on defending the movie with the same arguments for a little while.

When the movie came out, anybody that was implying the movie sucked because of its writing and overall direction was called MRA / sexist by the Gaf warriors. Shit like "anybody that doesn't have an MRA agenda seems to like the movie so get out of here".

I experienced it first hand. I never ever said anything about the female cast (which has nothing to do with why I hated the movie) and got attacked.

It calmed down after the majority of people agreed it sucked. But still.

No it was just for not liking it. Even if you explained that them being women had nothing to do with it, they'd claim you're doing mental gymnastics or anything of the such.

As for SS. I really enjoyed it. I didn't go in expecting some story deep, super focused movie. I went in expecting a fun action film with crazies as the main characters and got so much more than I expected. Like I said in the other thread, did not expect to like killer croc.

Here? Because looking at your post history I can't see any posts you've made about not liking Ghostbusters and then being attacked for it.

I wasn't a fan of Ghostbusters at all, but it's leagues better than Suicide Sqaud, which I just thought was a mess from start to finish.

Not on neogaf. Shit like this mostly happens on Tumblr/twitter.

And disagree. GB was so dull and unfunny, mainly because they kept stretching every joke. It gets to the point where I just wanted the joke to stop. It's like that person that tells a joke that made you giggle, but then goes on to explain it hoping you laugh more. I got it, it just wasn't that funny. Both movies have terrible villains but at least I took Enchantress as a threat. Whiney McI-Was-Bullied was a pain to see everytime he was on screen.

(the rest was edited because a mod asked for it to stop but you get the point)

I can find several other examples of friends of mine getting the same sort of comments despite not saying anything about the female cast.
