I just wanna know one thing, how is Leto as the Joker?
IMO the worst on-screen portrayal of The Joker so far. He's creepy in the wrong way, turning into a heavy-breather whenever Harley's nearby. Add in some truly terrible dialogue and zero on-screen interaction with Batman and yeah, worst Joker ever.

Just saw it felt like a DC film. Lots of cool stuff I liked, good casting, lots of things that don't work, some horrible pacing.

Think I liked it more than BvS, I think

They ruined the Joker by cutting all his scenes out.

I like Leto as the Joker but Suicide Squad isn't enough to judge.

Look at that potential =( .

Not bad but not great. There's not enough to fairly judge him on, but he's not currently giving Ledger or Hamill a run for their money with what you do see of him.
I'd agree with this but I'd say his portrayal is similar to Ledger, but more "cartoony" I guess. I don't mean that to compare him to Cartoon Joker's but that his portrayal is more silly which isn't a bad thing imo.

That was my take

He isn't like TAS version or Ledger's but draws from both. He's going for the same "realistic" gritty fucked up version like Ledger while being way more flamboyant and wacky
like something you'd see from the cartoon version. The end result is like a psycho drugged-out pimp

In the capacity he was in, I thought he was okay. There's potential to be truly menacing, but he was basically a glorified gangster-type. With the way the movie was cut, they could've just kept him in flashbacks and the introduction.

This scene could've honestly been scrapped and/or re-written to remove the Joker without affecting the flow of the movie:
There's the big scene with Joker taking over the helicopter Waller was going to evacuate the city from, and Harley jumped on it to escape with him. Their escape lasted for about a couple of minutes before the helicopter was shot out of the sky with Harley escaping. A couple of scenes later, Harley rejoins the group without incident, though with the assumption Joker died in the crash.

IMO, they could keep Joker texting Harley about escaping, and saving their escape at the end of the movie exactly how it played out. That would've been an awesome way of introducing Joker in present day.

Loved it. Had some nitpick a bit over all it was awesome.

Best movie DC has put out since Keaton Batman.

Edit: well Dark Knight was good but that's it for Nolan Batman

Suicide Squad is a mess. A very public mess. Stories have been told about its troubled post-production, but honestly, it feels like this film was doomed from the start. Outside Robbie and Smith, every actor in it is forgettable. Robbie nails the essence of Harley Quinn, but the writing lets her down, especially in the second half of the film. She’s not totally Harley though and that’s more disappointing than anything. Will Smith does his Will Smith thing, but it’s for the first time in about a decade so it’s oddly okay.

Leto’s Joker is an insult. Claiming the movie isn’t supposed to be about him is moronic. He’s second-billed and required to be in much more to adequately partake in Harley’s storyline. It’s a very mediocre take on the Joker, with it feeling more like a collection of quirks than a criminal mastermind. The idea of this Joker being Affleck’s Batman’s arch-nemesis is laughable, no pun intended. That said, it’s still more intriguing than the main villain, Enchantress. She has absolutely no presence, nothing original about her, and whenever the movie shifts to her and her brother, one wishes it was just time for another useless cameo or lazy connection to a larger cinematic universe.

Here’s one question though: Why hire Academy-Award-winning composer Steven Price if you’re just gonna score a third of the movie to the most generic soundtrack picks ever? Only a single choice feels like it makes sense, and that comes in the last two minutes of the film. Everything else is either too obvious or too try-hard. Ayer’s direction just feels lifeless. A lot of this comes with his action, which has felt at least somewhat visceral in the past but in this movie, just makes one tired. The tone is just bizarre, with the film actually feeling even darker in color palette than the previous DCEU films despite its obvious attempt to be lighter in tone. Please note the use of the word “attempt,” because this is just as morose and dull as the other films in this franchise.

If there’s one thing Suicide Squad has made me want to do, it’s rewatch Batman v Superman. That movie was pretty awful, but at least it had some ambition. Suicide Squad is just trying to be moderately enjoyable, but it can’t even achieve that. It feels focus-tested and without a voice, and if it weren’t for Margot Robbie and Will Smith, it would be completely forgettable, and that’s worse than being just awful. Even with them, Suicide Squad is boring, overstuffed, and completely devoid of sincere entertainment. The worst blockbuster of the year so far.

I wonder why.

sorta.... anticlimactic? The first time he appears (same with Batman actually), it's not really made a big deal of. You'd think your first reveal of the Joker would have a bit more weight to it. But 90% of the time he's on screen, he's just kinda there. It's less Leto and more to do with the editing/directing around it.

Also wanna state that I really enjoy some tracks from the OST. it's pretty much all I've listened too since I got home from the movie last night. Sucker for Pain, Standing in the rain, Gangsta, You don't own me and Heathens are all really enjoyable. My favorites being Heathens>Sucker for Pain>Standing in the rain

I am gutted they are not releasing the score. Steven Price did some good work, you can hear it in some scenes, like when enchantress is first introduced.

On one hand yeah I agree but on the other hand some of the original stuff is so good that I can let it slide. Can't say I'd ever imagine I'd enjoy a song with Lil Wayne or to listen to 21 pilots. But it would've been nice for them to have just released everything.

Just saw there is an official novelisation:

Had a quick read of a sample when it allows you to 'Look Inside' and already it seems to bring a lot more detail and possibly different side of things to what the film showed. It is due out August 9, and I think I will be picking it up as so far I liked what I read.

Woah. Didn't even hear about this. Can't wait to check it out.

I kind of ok with Purple Lamborghini, and I am the guy who says rap music died after 1996.
I'm not saying it's good, at all. Don't get me wrong. It's just not as bad as it could have been.
What? They did release the score.

Link? I don't mean the soundtrack. I mean the actual score.

They mean the orchestrated one.

Purple Lamborghini is definitely one of the weaker songs on the album. I'm not really a rap fan either and my knowledge of rap is pretty much, Wu Tang and associates, Run the Jewels, MF Doom and Chance the rapper and Tyler the Creator. But I really enjoy this stuff.

Tyler the creator stuff is strange. Dude has a radio voice, but I am not a fan of his troll lyrics. It's not my thing.

Just watched it and as someone who HATED both MoS and BvS, I enjoyed it all the way through. That being said, it is a mess. It doesn't know if it wants to be dark and twisted or a GOTG style film. The editing was all over the place right from the beginning, some characters, particularly Katana and Croc get zero character development, none of the action were that noteworthy, except the aweful final fight, the villian is the weakest supervillain I've seen since Malakith (though I do like the design), I didn't really like joker being more of a pimp/mobster, and I never bought that this team became a family like they claimed.

That being said I really liked the characters, other then maybe Joker who was hit and miss for me, and I liked the style of the film even if it was very 'Hot Topicish'. That's what made me like this film, even though I agree with all the negative criticism I've seen.

Where else.

It's funny because it features a lot of music that didn't make the movie, like Harley & Joker, probably one of the best themes composed in the last decade, and it is still MIA in the movie. Fuck Warner Brothers.
Thanks, I'm actually really looking forward to checking it out!

I was never a fan of rap until I started listening to Tyler tbh. Well there was Gorillaz but. I guess for me at the time a lot of rap I had heard just seemed completely nonsensical but completely serious and I thought it was stupid and Tyler's music took nonsensical to a whole other level without being serious but still seeming serious and I guess I connected to that style of humor and can relate as I thought it was just as funny that so many people didnt get that it was a joke. But doing similar shit at school got me into trouble considering after a while there was a handful of people that ended up thinking I was a satanist and sacrificed goats.

At this point, the extremely negative reviews are helping impressions rather than hurting. It looks like a lot of people are walking in with lowered expectations and walking out happier than they thought they'd be.

I've seen people I know on Facebook essentially going just to prove to all of the people who see their posts a movie doesn't have to be perfect for them to enjoy. I don't get it. The critics aren't just stuck-up pricks hating on a fun comic book movie, the movie is just flat-out atrocious.

Is this...an issue?

I really enjoyed it, only really noticed the editing early on in the introductions. Thought all the characters were pretty good. Poor Rope Guy though. He was in this movie less than
the fucking Batman.

Just got out. 8/10
Horrible villain, but that aside,

Jesus that was fun, I had a smile the whole time.

Harley was amazing
Leto was amazing
Will smith surprised

The first 30 min are 10/10

Best soundtrack in the last 5 years.

GF loved it
Audience loved it

Honestly, I tried to like this movie, but this was a 3/10 flick for me. It just had no real strong components. The plot was too convoluted for something so basic. There was no real characters we could sympathize with. The movie clearly favored Deadshot and Harley and they were not very interesting characters. The rest of the Squad was clearly the B-team.

I didn't care for Jared as the Joker. It felt forced and kind of lackluster. I can't see him really stacking up against Affleck.

I dunno. I really wanted to like this movie, like very badly. I tried very hard but this movie was a total swing and miss for me. Batman v Superman had its fault but it is a lot more enjoyable to me.

Feel bad, but this movie was a total swing and miss for me. I don't want to throw shade on people who dig this film; I just couldn't get into it.

Not at all, but after talking with a couple of them, they didn't actually think Suicide Squad was very good, but they're tired of, to paraphrase, "critics slamming everything."

I just don't get why they feel like that's the case. The critics praise movies all the time, especially superhero flicks.

Yeah reviewers have been harsh on this movie but it's not something that happens fairly often. That thing about suicide squad getting rotten with a 2.5/4 while Tarzan had the same rating and hot fresh is a little suspect though, not sure of it was ever debunked or not. But I can understand peoples thoughts when they say "Well these positive opinions don't sound too positive" but as I've stated plenty in all three threads. This movie is undeniably flawed in many aspects, but a lot of that comes from the hack job that is the final cut and toning down the film by removing important parts. But, I personally believe this movie is pretty unique, it's beautiful in parts, I love love love the OST of this movie and I love the performances of the actors and because of those things it feels some gems among some trash but what you have to decide is are those gems valuable enough to you to go dumpster diving through this ripped up comic or is the work to get there too off putting and and are you just not a fan of sparkly objects. That's kind of how I see the sharp divide in opinions on this film.

Those people are nuts.
I won't deny that I egged some of it on, but it's one of those dumb sarcastic things you don't really think someone will believe until they do. From there it was just funny seeing how much more they'd believe

Viola and Will are the best part of the movie.

Robbie is in 2nd place under them.

Hardy was completely wasted but had some good bits.

The whole gangsta gig Croc tried to pull was some of the corniest shit I've ever seen in a superhero movie. He was so bad.

I just wanna know one thing, how is Leto as the Joker?

I loved what I saw of his portrayal of Joker. Frankly, I've loved every portrayal of Joker so far because he's so varied in so many ways throughout his run in the comics so it's always interesting to me to see how an actor decides to play him. To me, there is no "wrong" way to play him. Compared to the others, this was a more psychotic / perverse version of Joker.

Unfortunately, there just wasn't enough of him. Ledger / Nicholson had essentially an entire movie each to show develop their versions of Joker, but Ayer and co. left Leto with very little screen time to really show off his Joker... which is really disappointing. So it's almost impossible to "compare" him to the others. I can definitely see him really working well with Affleck's Batman.. I really, really hope he has a much bigger role in the upcoming standalone Batfleck movie.

Also, loved his laugh. Definitely did a great job and I hope to see more.

My impressions after seeing it an hour ago;

Pros
Harley, Joker actually weighs her down
Will Smith; he held this movie together along with Harley.
Cinematography was gorgeous

Cons
Joker; cringey Heath wannabe
Plot is basic and relies to hard on characters

Overall in DCEU SS>>> BvS>> MoS
