Pokémon Sun & Moon | Info and speculation thread

Only skimmed the list a little cuz I don't want totally spoiled if true, but I have to say 103 new Pokemon would be a pretty okay number. Let's just have at least ~30-40 Alolan Variation Pokemon, then we have a nice big generation for me to play through lots and lots.

The typings in that fake leak are all over the place. Too many types that change when they evolve. Gamefreak just doesn't do that very often. Wonder what this month's corocoro will be about. In the past for new games, do they always show new pokemon? Or maybe we'll get some other aspect of the game?

To be fair, this is the generation where they seem to be changing a lot of things up, so if ever there was a generation for stuff like that, its this.

We'll find out soon though.

Introducing a fair number of variable type pokemon keyed off the 4 islands in the game they introduce Alolan forms makes a lot of sense - it lets new players get in on the gimmick even if they're a complete pokemon neophyte and don't know what a Vulpix is.

Do we though? Look at the order of the Proof of the Island Challenge:

You know I actually really like the progress that has been made with the visuals in this game. I hope the NX version can smooth out the jaggies. Could be really nice. At least until we get an official next gen pokemanz.

I didn't see
dark/fairy
anywhere in that new Pokemon list, so if that list is missing the new Alolan forms that remain to be seen, here is what I'm hoping for:

Alolan Clefairy&Clefable (dark/fairy)

Cmon game freak, do it for me pls.

Self quote, yeah. But it turns out this was already a thing from the manga...

the NX version

Stop.

It's incredibly GameFreak is gonna make an NX version. If the NX is backwards compatible they might have some kinda NX exclusive goodie but GameFreak probably isn't going to release a second NX version of the two games, or even release a third version for the NX. They release B2W2 after the 3DS' release, they'll more than likely make this Gen a short one and wrap it up before they move on to the next Gen on the NX.

I hope the leak is fake. I want Minior to evolve into a living planet and Mightior doesn't sound like the name of a living planet to me.
Minior feels like a single-stage Carbink-style Pokemon to me, especially if his ability is potent in effect. Imagine him having Carbink-like defense stats when the shield is up, and then it reverses Aegislash-style to Attack and Speed when the shield is down. That might make him capable enough to carve his own niche as a single-stage Pokemon.

Not that I think a NX version is likely - but B2W2 could still be played on the 3DS. If the NX isn't compatible, the only way to play on a new device despite it being released late on the run of the previous one would be a port/re-release

So you think the MCV report that GameFeak will release a Pokemon game within six months of the NX launch is wrong?

I mean, it does seem very out-of-character for GameFreak, but MCV are generally quite accurate, and I could definitely see Nintendo leaning on GF to get the third version of S/M out quickly (maybe available for both 3DS and NX).

I think an enhanced port would be more likely than a 3rd version in that scenario.

3rd version coming out simultaneously for both alongside an NX re-release of S/M makes sense. (is there a chance this is why we haven't seen Pokemon Z?)

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility for them to launch a third version of Sun/Moon on NX. An "Eclipse" version released a year later with extra Alola Forms and Mega Evolutions, running in HD at 60 fps with nice AA, high-res textures, texture filtering, enhanced lighting/shadows, etc. Essentially the same engine but everything on "Very High." It'd still be a 3DS game at its core, but it'd look very nice.

MCV is a trade magazine, not a public; and has a great track record at that. I'd be amazed if they were wrong. Inaccurate maybe - could be a spin-off - but even that, I think, is unlikely. As strange as it seems, I'd be pretty confident we're getting an NX Pokemon of some sort. Might be time for them to bring back the 3rd version after a few gens rest - Eclipse or something.

EDIT: Beaten.

I've made it my policy to ignore literally all NX news. Pretty much all of it always sounds like someone's wishlist. I really doubt GF would release something mainline cross-gen especially as soon as this time next year. It's could probably be a spin-off or something to attract attention.

I'm not looking forward to the prospect of single screen Pokemon again

Rumor Leak + Alolan forms (including many yet to be shown) + New Megas (if any) = a solid generation Pokemon wise. Thankfully we are getting a new info dump in a few days so we don't have to wait long for this rumor to be debunked 3

I really don't see this generation staying on the 3DS for the next 3-4 years.

Like I said, it could easily be a short one. Sun/Moon. A third game? Maybe not even that, GameFreak is definitely acting out of pattern with no Pokemon Z. I just don't see them changing systems, this seems to fall into a similar situation to Gen V.

MCV is not that kind of magazine. They specifically mention a GameFreak Pokemon game, so a spinoff seems unlikely.

I honestly don't think Nintendo will let them do what they did with B2/W2 again. Is it fair to say that the 3DS would have probably had a better start if Pokemon was released within the first year? Nintendo are literally delaying the NX to make sure they have a killer launch window lineup, so pressuring GameFreak for an NX version of 'Eclipse' would make a lot of sense. And yes, GameFreak isn't wholly Nintendo owned, but I wouldn't say this is the ideal scenario for Nintendo either - GameFreak was still able to release Sun & Moon on dead hardware again.

The idea that they'd cut Gen VII short seems even less likely to me, after Gen VI already was.

That list is solid, and I'm leaning towards believing is true since it looks that "variability" is a theme in Sun and Moon, with the alolan forms, the pokemon that vary depending on island, etc.

Fungkie and Hallucid, poison/fairy? Sounds like an hallucinogenous fungus and LSD lol

If NX isn't backwards compatible, it's a wildly different situation to Gen V.

Dunno it feels like it will evolve still. Maybe from a Meteorite to a Comet. That's my head canon.

Yeah, I feel the same way. Some interesting ideas in that list, but I'm not going to put any stock into it, it's not worth it. We might know if it's real or not this Friday when we get our next reveal.

I want it to be real because of the dolphin though...

One thing that really bothers me about the list though is that it looks like there is a ton of legendaries.

Yup, loving them. Super dank names

It's not impossible, but it's still the least likely scenario. It's still much more likely the 3rd version stays on 3DS or doesn't get made at all.

I know fanart has me covered, but is anyone else hoping Mimikyu has alternate forms? Like, even if the type doesn't change, maybe we will see canon "Mimikyu in a non-Pikachu costume?" Or maybe it'll see the light and evolve into a Pokèmon with a Raichu costume?

It has a weird ability, though, so I doubt it evolves. That's one of the bigger tells regarding that leak from this morning, IMO. I could still be wrong, but on top of taking from every other leak for security/recycling a Dark/Electric Spacey Pseudo-legend, Minior doesn't look like it evolves.

How about "Ego"?

Heh. Ego just looks weird, though. Mogo has a weirder name, and is also basically a space cop, though. They'll (Does Mogo even have a gender identity?) never not be funny to me.

Regardless of whether the list is real or fake, the names are really, really, REALLY good

If it's fake, Treehouse should track down the person and hire them to name future 'mons

Seriously don't get the idea that Mimikyu won't evolve. I mean it's possible, but I don't see why it's any more probable than the other scenario. None of the arguments I've heard have convinced me.

It's a pikaclone after a fashion and none of those evolve, and has all the traits of such except electric type. It also seems thematically like a dead end for evolution, since evolving it would by necessity get rid of it's gimmick.

They could bump this region specific Pokemon even further and make a Pokemon game with time travel. Certain types of Pokemon can only be caught in certain time periods. Could see a mechanical Charizard or even growlithe in the past before he was more of a house dog.

They honestly could reuse Pokemon due to how many they have and give some badass alterations with methods. First we get the region specific ones such as ice vulpix and more. They could totally do some wicked time travel shit into the future and past. Would also make for a great story to try to undo stuff and save the world.......huh.....sounds like some chrono cross type stuff there lol

i doubt it will, would be stupid to throw away such a great concept and design on a mid-stage.
