The NRA responds:

NRA continues to be horrible.

One of Trump's more obnoxious traits is how he claims he's super tough and "speaks his mind", but any time he beats around the bush yet clearly alludes to something like this, he'll deny it. A complete coward when it comes down to it.

He implies it like it is!

I feel like if there was a video of Trump talking to a small business owner and saying, "this is a nice store you got here, would be horrible if something bad happened to it" she would be saying, "he's just showing concern for his fellow man! The man could be uninsured and Trump is just worried that an earthquake could affect him!"

Aaaand everyone is talking about Trump

Mission Accomplished

Meanwhile Hillary is silently (relatively speaking) moving resources towards Arizona and Georgia to turn them blue in a year where they probably would have stayed red were it not for Trump.

Never mind the presidency, how does this not get him put in jail? I mean, if that's what he's seriously inferring.
I think it's suitably ambiguous. He could argue that when he said that second amendment people could do something about Hillary appointing judges, he simply meant that they could vote against Hillary.

Nobody would believe him, but it would just be enough for reasonable doubt.

Just checked and it's the top story on CNN. His campaign's coffin has so many nails in it that you can't see wood, but I'm sure we'll find room for a few more.

This whole situation scares me...
it really scares me... and i'm not even in the US
But his hate, his horrendous way of handling things, is just scary.

The common spin on this is "he's talking about the NRA lobbying against her pick" but he said afterwards "and that will be a horrible day" so that's obviously not the case.

Also that tweet shows that even the NRA says there's nothing they can do lol

So the only interpretation is that he's implying assassination, its probably just a dark joke, but when you're in the position of being president jokes like that are never okay. someone might be stupid enough to take you seriously

Looool, NRA isn't even going to touch the second portion of Trump's statement (you know, the part that is getting international headlines).

and I'm sure when they get drug along with him the first part of their statement "He's right!" is all anyone will be talking about too which is fair

Enough is enough, the Secret Service need to do their jobs and take this guy into custody and the GOP completely disown him.

They ignored the rest of his statement, and pretended it did not exist. Even the NRA won't touch this "joke" with a ten-foot pole.

That isolated "Trump is right." statement is gross as shit. All but endorsing his full statement without mentioning it.

Like, EVERYONE is talking about his statement and how horrible it is. It would have been easy for @NRA to just not say anything. But they choose to say "Trump is right."

I don't get why you all say this is the final nail in his coffin. His fans hate Hillary and love guns. I feel like this kind of shit only makes them love him even more.

For those worried about him being able to successfully spin these comments, don't worry. His base will eat it up, but his base isn't even close to being enough to win a general election, where the dynamics are fundamentally different from a Republican primary. A moderate suburban voter is not going to hear these comments and think he's talking about gun owners lobbying.

Because the election isn't about his fans anymore. They have a ceiling. It's the rest of the undecideds.

I mean it should probably be the final nail in the coffin of Donald Trump being allowed to interact with the rest of society.

He has the crazies in his pocket. These comments won't change anything with those people. I honestly believe though that he has a lot of moderate Republicans that are still considering voting for him and every time he makes a shit-stain comment like this he loses more votes. It's not a final nail in the coffin but he's losing votes all the time.

Then why did his team spin it as one phrase "2nd amendment people"

This is just like when the Melania Trump speech scandal happened and the next day the Trump camp sent out all of their spokespeople saying "word is bond" like it was a normal part of their everyday speech LOL
