Sitting in for @maddow in 5 mins. I don't want to oversell it, but this might be the biggest hour in television history.

Only thing he's said so far that's "big news" is he mentioned brand new poll numbers coming up that will "surprise a lot of people"

Let's see how Stormfront and possibly the other hate groups in the US are taking the statement:

CpdYUkcWIAE9odg

Well at least they're smart enough to not be fooled by Trump's post-comment spin.

Just reading about this now. Straight up dangerous. Fucking hell.
Same. I just got home and Trump has somehow, somehow, managed to go even further in his insanity. His surrogates appear to be going with the "he meant voting lol" angle, except the context was preventing an already elected Clinton from appointing judges.

Ah well. I am sure at least no Trump supporter on GAF has been foolish enough to try that line of defense.

Susan Collins defended him apparently, saying she thought he meant that 2nd amendment supporters could pressure the Senate to reject the nominees.

But really just shows how Collins' head works vs how Trump's does. He has never shown anything to make me believe that that's what he meant. Think about all his comments over the months. When has he ever shown that deep of an understanding of the political process, let alone talked about it cogently?

The dude made a joke about someone shooting Clinton (or judges) because he knew he had the audience and because that's the way he is. This is a guy who said he could shoot someone and nobody would do shit, so the notion that he'd be worried about making a joke about someone else is nonsense.

Wow this is vile, thinly veiled threats. I thought being surprised by Trump was something 3 months in the rear view mirror, but this guy is fucking dangerous. Like that RNC speaker lady who gave that maybe-but-yeah-really Nazi salute.

Plus, why would that take second amendment people in particular?

The spin is so transparent because none of it I've seen explicitly denounces the idea of violence and says DO NOT DO THIS. Because I mean, they wouldn't want his fans to get the wrong idea and think he didn't mean exactly what it sounded like.

So nice of them to speak for all Americans on what the definition of "government tyranny" is. I'm sure they have reasonable guidelines.

The party that wants to restrict the rights of religious minorities.
The party that wants to restrict the rights of racial minorities.
The party that wants to restrict the rights of gender and sexuality minorities.
The party that wants to restrict the rights of women.
The party that wants to restrict the rights of the poor.
The party that works to ensure power is concentrated among the upper class, and that the country is structured around protecting the upper class above all else.
The party that has largely supported torture.
The party led by a man who has said he would force his soldiers to commit war crimes by murdering innocent non-combatants, including women and children.
The party that attempts to enact policy explicitly around their own religious beliefs, forcing them upon all others.
The party of the War on Drugs.
The party that opposes free, public education.
The party that wants to legalize discrimination.
The party of the "law and order" candidate.
The party of the candidate who has said "I am your voice".
The party of the candidate who has threatened or encouraged violence against those who disagree with him.
etc.

BUT THE LIBRULS ARE THE REAL TYRANTS, OBAMA WANTS TO TAKE MY GUNS

To be fair, people said they'd do some pretty terrible shit if Obama won. Like they'd riot and he'd get assassinated and all that.

But now what if they believe they got the ok from trump?

A man who promised pay the legal fees of supporters who attack protesters at his rallies?

Susan Collins managed to not be garbage for 12 hours. Still longer than most other Repubs I guess.

What a shitty party when Ted Cruz is still your most decent Senator.

If a member posted that, they would be banned. Yet this fuck is the Republican candidate for president...

Trump is a terrorist who is attempting to radicalize a large portion of the US. His message isn't to go out and support a democratic process by voting, it's a call to violence when the voting doesn't go your way. This shit has to stop NOW.

This on top of bolstering ISIS with his anti Muslim rhetoric.

Man I got to the Death Ray Plot and was like WAAAAAAAAAT for a moment before I remembered what it was. Crazy shit.

That's somewhat misleading. That article is entitled Assassination Threats. There's been no actual attempts, just threats and possible plots. Not to say that's not serious in and of itself, but it's not the same.

I think you can fairly call both attacks on the White House attempts despite their utter failure.

He just called a hit out on his opponent in the week that was supposed to reset his campaign.

At this point, will he even make it to the debates?

I totally agree and I've been saying this for a while. (look at my post history)

I think some big name Republicans will start endorsing and actively promoting Johnson. Just saw it for the first time on Rachel Maddow.

At exactly what stage does a plot become an attempt?

Yep, pretty much as soon as it was posted. Do you think anything will come of it? There's a conflict of interest there actually.

Nothing will come of it.

And I don't see a conflict really. The job is to protect both of them...even theoretically from each other lol

Apparently today's tweet was the first time the Secret Service have ever commented on a political discussion? This is according to Lawrence O'Donnell. Not sure if I'd consider that weighing in on political discussion.

I think he's at the very least going to be privately questioned.

When there's an...actual attempt? I mean, there's a big difference between those terms.

Yeah.

So what constitutes an attempt? A gun shot with the target in the shooter's field of view?

Seems pretty arbitrary to say that someone who got caught in the preparation stages was not making an attempt, but was simply "plotting."

How is this a political discussion?

It was a veiled threat made on Clinton's life by her opponent. You can't really interpret it any other way.
