And that makes him wrong how exactly?

It's a good thing there is a performance clause in the Neo presentation that clearly states that games must have framerates AT LEAST equal to their PS4 counterpart..

As for 4k, they can push for it all they want...very few games are going to hit native 4k...there will be some that use reconstruction techniques to get there though

Framerates are always a design decision...every single game on the PS4 could have a rock solid 60fps framerate if the devs wanted it...of course it might look like a jaggy, low res mess, but it could run at 60fps...

Some devs will go for 60fps...some will push more eye candy and stay at 30fps...

All Sony is mandating is that the game perform at the very least as well as the original ps4 version...

Because he said most games will be 1080P & that's not going to be the case they are telling devs to get in touch with them if they can't get the game up to at least 1800P

Man all of this HDR love we are hearing in gaming is really making me want to go out and buy and HDR ready TV. I was gonna hold off on 4k TV's till next gen (where I expect quite a few if not all games to be native 4k) but I'm probably gonna jump early just for HDR. Everyone who has seen it says the color boost is a total game changer

Queso got a oled 4k lg tv and likes it, get one of those. He only watches Judo on it.

I never said that. I said you should expect 1080p MINIMUM with stable framerates. Actually read what i post.

I bet they demo Uncxharted 4 at 1080p 60fps with ultra settings

But UC4 only has a single graphics setting, PS4. What makes better graphics 'ultra'? Its not a PC

Sweet.

Although, ah, what are the chances that they'll be showing off some games too? Would be really nice if they demoed God of War or Spider-Man. You know, not just for the visuals and shit, but new features or information on either of the two.

What is, 'High Dynamic Range'? An Industry Principal, explains: Part 1
BILL BAGGELAAR: High dynamic range is not new. It is the way that most of us see the world every day. Our eyes are high dynamic range and wide colour gamut-sensitive equipment.

On a bright sunny day, they can see cloud highlight details while still being able to see into the shadows. In dark environments, we can start to see detail in extremely low to practically no light. Some cameras are at least getting closer to being able to detect some of the same things on those sunny days. But they have also gotten better in the dark - not as good as our eyes, but certainly better as the sensor technology improves. On the other hand, the television sets or other types of displays that we typically have used to watch content has a much lower dynamic range than our eyes, or even the cameras that are being used to capture the content. So TV viewing, up to this point, has been what we now call, Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) where we have maybe in the order of seven to nine stops of exposure depending on the display. With these new displays, we are now talking about Ultra-HD (4K/UHD) and High Dynamic Range (HDR) that could potentially go up to 20 stops. But more practically for the consumers, we’re talking maybe 12 to 14 stops. We are inherently contrast-sensitive beings and so what this increased dynamic range does, is it gives us an increased sense of sharpness, detail, clarity, color and saturation; all these things that we see in the real world, but we’re not able to realize on today’s consumer displays or even in theaters, for that matter. And since we are incredibly adaptable beings, when we’re watching a movie or a TV show in a particularly either dark or bright location, our eyes and brain adapt. We may see something right away where the contrast doesn’t necessarily feel right, but we adapt pretty quickly to it and can watch it and not be distracted by it.

But now with these higher dynamic range displays, we’re able to really start to give people more picture details in order to provide a more immersive experience. As I mentioned, getting better color saturation goes along with this whole wider color gamut piece that is part of HDR. So HDR is not just about contrast, or about resolution; or even about color; it’s about being able to combine all three to represent images more accurately on consumer displays. This gives content creators an expanded canvas to represent things that are true to life or they can even go hyper real. For finishing movies for theaters, we work in P3 color space, which is a wider color gamut than the TV standard, Rec. 709. Often times there are very specific colors, particular purples, reds or translucent colors; that cannot be displayed in SDR/Rec.709, so we have to do additional color correction to nicely squash it down into Rec. 709 for consumer displays. There’s all sorts of saturated colors whether it goes from blue to orange to purple to green that we can now represent on consumer displays that we’ve never been able to represent before and that provides something closer to the original artistic vision, representing what the DP and Director originally intended for the viewers to see.
I recommend reading through the whole interview.

And here I was thinking of trading in my One for an S. I think I'll hold off for this instead. I mainly just want a 4k Blu Ray player, but I'll take better looking games every day too.

The real question is how many new, unannounced games they will show, if at all.

Hmmm in terms of unannounced games I'm not expecting a whole lot. This bad boy is going to go on sale likely only a few weeks after its announcement. Its all about instant buzz and instant gratification.

The focus will likely be this holidays titles / early next year games.

Yeah, I think we'll see FFXV, BF1, GT: Sport (2016 games) and a Neo-fied Horizon trailer as highlights, plus a couple before/after patch videos for Uncharted 4 and Driveclub or whatever to oo and ahh at.

Some kind of big Deep Down re-reveal seems like a pipe dream to me. Capcom is a mess.

And any other big announcement like Sucker Punch's new game or RDR2 would just end up being overshadowed by the hardware reveal.

Question will be if it's a worthy upgrade if I still have only a 1080p console do I trade in my 20th anniversary console for it.

Should also see the PS4 Slim to replace the current model as well as the Neo...I am going for the name PlayStation 4 Pro.

Hopefully some more Spider-Man footage will be shown.

Yeah, new game announcements for the Neo would make little sense as its not intended to be a new console with exclusive games, rather the Neo will guarantee you the superior experience within the current Playstation 4 ecosystem.

How awesome would it be if this dream could come to life? One can only wish

I never said that. I said you should expect 1080p MINIMUM with stable framerates. Actually read what i post.

I asked where did you get the 1080P requirement from because you said

Uh, every game is not expected to be 1800p minimum, that's crazy talk. Sony have said that at launch, the only requirement will be that games are 1080p minimum and the FPS doesn't run worse than OG PS4.

You might be confused with the PDF stating that the NEO mode SDK at the time only allowed for higher resolutions with no downscale, but would be changed to allow 1080p rendering in later SDK's.

Devs are not going to be restricted to rendering in high resolutions versus 1080p and huge amounts of AA or smoothing over GPU bound scenarios.

In the pdf they talk about 1440P not looking much different from 1080P on a HDTV & wanting devs to use checkerboard & other rendering tech to get closer to 4K instead of rendering at 1440P & they tell the devs to contact them if they are not able to get the game over 1800p,

Games can also have 1080p frame buffer but that is in addition to the higher resolution frame buffer.

I asked where did you get the 1080P requirement from because you said .

Eurogamer explicitly has in their documentation that 1080p is the minimum required standard and the FPS has to run the same or better.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/d...ion-4k-neo-and-the-original-ps4-will-co-exist

1080p is the mandatory minimum display resolution: Sony is keen to push developers on to higher resolutions and super-sampling down to full HD is an option, but 1080p is the lowest pixel-count allowed.

Unless eurogamers seen some other papers that said 1080p was the minimal requirement they most likely took what they said about 1800p to mean 1080p.

Are you becoming the next Jeff? Nobody is going to believe the nonsense your spouting over DF's own internal documents.

I want Sony to reveal a 128GB PS Vita memory card at least. Vita is dead, we know Sony, but can'g just all be about Neo. Gotta spread the wealth of info.

I know i am in the minority at least on gaf but i just hope they announce ps4 slim, smaller, quieter and cheaper ps4 is what i want. I might cave for ps4 neo but only if would make 30fps games go 60fps. But i suppose thats unlikely given that 60fps would give unfair advantage over regular ps4 owners not to mention that i think most games do utilize cpu to max and 30% clock increase aint gonna do it.
