For many (like myself) this is the very first step into 4K (or 1800p upscaled, whatever) gaming. I would have it no other way than a big blowout where developers proudly show what they have achieved.
My wish list:

Witcher 3 patch coming in october @ 1800p/30
Final Fantasy XV 1440p or 1800p @30
Uncharted 4 MP bump to 1080/1440, SP bump to 1800/30 or 1440/60 (choice)
Overwatch patch coming in october 1800p/60

My body has never been more ready. Already saving for a kickass 65" 4K TV. It's a good time to be a gamer.

This is not going to happen, people need to keep their expectations in check. Maybe you should wait until the console comes out, see what it can do before buying that TV... If you buy it expecting the above, you will be disappointed.

And exactly what part of that do you think I shouldn't expect? The resolutions I mentioned are in reach, if you consider the GPU upgrade.

Why argue that a console can't do something if all signs (dev docs, DF article) point to it being able to (almost) reach 1800p? Even if they reach something like 1600-1700p I'll be happy. I'm just hungry for more power and a high resolution I've always valued.

price will be right, power gain will be okay, and then someone gets the spec sheet and... still 2,4 Ghz Wifi.... booom. -_-

So as for HDR...

It's clear now both companies are going for it. Xbox One S has it and undoubtedly Scorpio will too. But not so long ago in a Gears 4 thread here about Digital Foundry who had seen the game on a HDR display, a guy from DF shared his concerns about HDR and how it introduces a lot of input lag as well. Correct me if i'm wrong but it seems most LG TVs will be ok with this, but Samsung and Sony suffer from quite some input lag and i believe there is no HDR in game-mode?

I wonder if they'll have a new Dual Shock to reveal too.

I reckon they will have. Especially when it comes to battery life. I don't understand why Sony decided to settle on that and why....why no rechargable batteries option? That is what i like about the Xbox controller, multiple options. That controller lasts about 30 hours with my Panasonic Eneloops. Give me something like that Sony or make the internal battery as good as Nintendo's Pro Controller. I managed to finish The Wind Waker HD with that and it still wasn't empty.

You know what would be amazing?

Sony: "We know you were all expected an upgraded Playstation 4, called the PS4 Neo."

Fans: "Yes!! Shut up and take our money!"

Sony: "Unfortunately that is not what we are here to announce today. The existing PS4 is still selling incredibly well and we expect it to continue doing so throughout the holiday season."

*Fans start looking nervous*

Sony: "As always, we believe in a long-term strategy. However, to add some excitement to the Playstation brand we're adding 2 new colors to the PS4 lineup - full glossy black and semi-gloss black."

*Fans get ready to riot*

Sony: "Just kidding haha, we wouldn't do that to you. We're now going to SKIP the PS4 Neo and go straight to Playstation 5, available NOW!

*Video plays with eye melting graphics*

Fans react:

The crazed fans would still have a meltdown if this thing was called PS5, because they are expecting the real PS5 to be 6-8x more powerful than PS4 and the Neo just doesn't cut it! I think people are expecting way to much out of this console, even the RX480 isn't living up to the hype about what it was supposed to do...

Read about this as well, seems like only the LG Oleds are decent with HDR on.

Apart from release date why should i be excited for this event?

I mean im going to buy this but we probably know everything about this thing already.

Yep. Maybe it's something the other companies can improve via a update but i don't know about that. Input lag isn't insanely important for a game where you don't necessarily need quick response times, but for a FPS...oh man that is very very very important.

It certainly isn't a matter as simple as...''Ok, so this TV is apparetly really good. Has 4K. Go'' we're going to need to do some good research into this HDR before purchasing something. I was planning on going for a 4K OLED next year anyway, because i just can't go back to LED now anymore after owning a LG OLED for almost a year now.

Slightly prettier ps4 games doesn't really excite me that much tbh.

Do correct me if i'm wrong, but how can it be slightly prettier when apparently it will be twice the PS4?

I seriously doubt that.

I expect the exclusives to be significantly improved. A game like Battlefield 1 running at 1080p AND holding a steady 60fps would be considered a MAJOR improvement(if it happens).

I'm oddly unexcited. Unless the Neo will have any additional functionalities, then I can't really hype myself. But I'm looking forward to seeing its design. :)

This would be perfect.

Do correct me if i'm wrong, but how can it be slightly prettier when apparently it will be twice the PS4?

Examples where the power is not only going into making the game prettier:

1. A developer decides to do 60 fps on Neo, 30 fps on PS4. Same graphical presets.
2. A developer decides to do 4k resolution (either native or checkerboard upscale from a lower native, but still higher than 1080p, resolution) on Neo, 1080p on PS4. Same graphical presets.

Personally, I'm by far most excited for example 1.

All that is great, but Neo needs two more things:
Improved wi-fi
1080p video recording - the current video capture looks pretty bad at 720p

No SATA3, no buy.

Does that even matter unless you use an SSD?

I would love to buy an external SSD but my god, the prices for good space. The small boosts of external hard drives will suffice for now.

I think like Xbox One S it will have SATA3 just because nobody really makes SATA2 any more. But you know what Sony are like with WiFi to this day.

Yeah, 4K does absolutely nothing for me and especially if it's not native. If it's the less resource hungry option I'd much rather 1080p and 60fps with some decent AA etc. Hopefully the Neo can manage that and that devs provide an option for this.

I seriously doubt that.

Resolution and framerate bumps are exactly the kind of improvement I'm not impressed by at all.

Why wouldn't Sony announce PS4 Neo as an actual "high-end" alternative for those of us who would pay a lot of money to play PS4 games at 4K res? Is it already know that it's just an incremental upgrade to the PS4, like how the Xbox One S is to the Xbox One?

Could you tell me the following:

- Price
- Specs
- New controller?
- Wi-Fi capabilities
- Design and Size
- 4K and HDR support?

I generally like to know the first two things before I buy something and I missed those details.

You are misinformed. It is more than two times more powerful than the current PS4. Nothing like the Xbox One S.

Well if you don't care about the 4K features either then it's not a product aimed at you. House did say this was a product for the hardcore.

I'm totally upgrading and getting this. Looking forward to seeing what they show at the event too - remember Andrew House saying that he was disappointed that Scorpio was an announcement but they didn't show any games off running on the new hardware.
