No Man's Sky |OT| Hello Worlds.

Broke down and got it for PS4. Helps that I had a $50 Best Buy GC and I couldn't use that to buy a Steam gift card.

So after 2+ hours on my starter planet I left and visited the next nearest one. Was I supposed to go to a space station first? Lots of buddies are telling me they all got a space station after exiting their 1st planet.

So I've left a planet and now I can't figure out how to go back and locate areas that I've previously discovered and uploaded from said planet. Is there an easy way to do this that I'm just missing?

So I skipped the tutorial, was that a bad idea? I ended up on an extremely hostile planet and I thought "I'm just going to dive in head first".

I've never played a game that made me feel so "alone". Not in a way that was overwhelming but more in the sense it required me to make small steps. I tend to power through everything I play but I spent an hour just in a "one mile" radius of the planet I started on. I ended up leaving the planet, only to get shot down by some group of pirates or some kind of defense system. I didn't have time to read the prompt as I was getting chased. It then shot me about "4 hours" away to a new station/planet where I found an abandonded base. Before I got off though, I saw a ship land in the distance. Any chance that was another player?

It's absolutely enthralling though. It's made me think about games and their expeirence so much different in less than a 12 hour period. Ship controls could be smoother though.

One nitpick regarding the controls. Why are sprint and scan switched around? So confusing even after 7 hours. Sprint should be on L3 and scan on R3. Maybe they can patch some control options in.

So the normal walking speed needs to be the sprinting speed, and the sprinting speed needs to be the melee jet pack boost speed. Traversing planet sized planets at a snails pace is tedious.

You can reassign the L3 and R3 buttons in the control panel of the OS.

It is so bizarre that they switched them... I mean, how do they not notice how out-of-convention that is?

Are you guys experiencing the game on any drugs?

I've been thinking of getting some acid to jump into the game all-in (I got the PC version and will be able to play only on Saturday), but don't know if would be the right vibe.
Anyone tried this already? (Weed is a given)

Tip for the planets 4 hours away etc if you want it.

Easily reachable when you get your pulse engine repaired and fuelled (activated by L1+R1 when you've done this), which can be done really early if you haven't. Should open things up a bit for you.

Nope. It's the one big thing missing..

That was pretty much my only complaint the first hour I played this. I can put more hours into it tonight.

It is so integrated into my brain that L3 is sprint that my mind can't grasp anything else. I actually have to think which button is sprint instead of it just feeling as instinct.

You can reassign the L3 and R3 buttons in the control panel of the OS.

Oh yeah. Damn. I completely forgot about that!

You don't need to go to the space station first but there is one nearby because there is a space station in every system. Just make sure to L3 in space to scan and it'll always show up on the screen while in that system as a Hexagon shaped icon (I believe it's a hexagon).

Totally agree with this. There also needs to be an option to adjust the FOV. You get somewhat used to it but it just seems so zoomed in and low to the ground.

I played for 6+ hours before cutting out to bed, and still have yet to leave my starting planet.

It is harsh, gets sporadically hot, a lot, 58C at times... lots of colorful caves to cool me off. Finding a lot of those stones and ruins to learn words. Crazy looking planets and some dinosaur and brain animals.

Kinda barren landscape which I am happy about. Will upload pics when I get home, forgot to last night.

Got a sick looking Mass Effect like Rifle. Grenades that blow holes as deep as I want, lol.

I am loving what I have played so far, however a couple of things I would like to see is some sort of solar system map which shows you the layout etc of the system you are in. It can get confusing when you are trying to navigate them.

The FOV is absolutely disgusting! headache inducing! please someone tell me they're going to patch it into the ps4 version, i'm not playing until that happens

If you are using the preorder ship that came with the hyperdrive, you have to ditch it for a ship without the hyperdrive in order to get the quest for the blueprint.

That's what I had to do last night and as soon as I did the quest all of the ships I could buy had hyperdrives.

Using the preorder ship makes you skip a good portion of the tutorial that takes you through multiple planets to get the blue print and pieces for the hyperdrive
Thanks, I guess this is actually what Wallach suggested long ago too. Last thing I'll try before wiping.

I actually paid for a ship last night and just left it there because I couldn't get my hyperdrive on it, lol...

OP should put the solution to the hyperdrive/DLC Pre order ship issue in the first post. It sucks you have to get rid of the DLC ship to fix it but at the same time you can quickly find better ships within hours.

There MUST be some sort of ground exploration vehicle made. Like no question. A hover bike/board/jeep that can traverse all/most terrain and is much faster than sprint.

My two largest problems with the game so far are planet exploration speed/mobility and resource management/inventory management.

Sorry, but what is the OS? I tried changing the buttons from the Controls-screen but I couldn't do it.

I have a DLC ship. I got a prompt to check a life source, found the alien who gave me the hyperdrive blueprint.

Is that the quest you're talking about?

I personally changed it via PS4's custom button assignements. put the option to enable / disable custom button mapping on that quick menu aswell (When you hold the ps button)

go to options -> accesibility

I didn't realize people were having trouble with the ore order ship. How does it mess up the game?

I was able to do the hyperdrive quest, although I think I had to buy antimatter from a trader? I can't remember. I was able to complete it, and I redeemed my preorder ship at the start of the game.

I ended up leaving my starter system and traveling to another, Gek controlled system, but then I built another warp cell and went back to my starter system. It has a single planet with two moons, and both moons are really fucking cool, so I want to explore them more before going to the next system. That, and I want to learn more Korvax words.

I ended up staying awake until 1:30. It's a work night and I get up around 5. This is why I don't play games during the work week...

I took a lot of screens, so once I get to work I'll start sharing them in the photo thread.

I can't stop thinking about this game, and I kind of wish I took my floor lead's advice and stayed home to play it more. Lol.

I imagine one of the reasons they haven't done this already is due to the 'pop in'. Would much worse at greater speeds that close to the ground.

FOV is to reduce the amount of things rendered so frames stay constant, youre not going to get an option for that on console.

Also this game needs a motercycle that detachea from the ship for exploring ala Oblivion (Tom Cruise) movie

I understand that. From my understanding and what people have said on Reddit, all that option does is make it so you have a set path to the center. You can switch from free roam to set path at any time in the galactic map.

No it gives you another path to follow, the atlas path.

I use the ship and fly low. Just grabbing some plutonium from time to time cuz taking off on the ship consules alot of it. Some terrain would be very hard to navigate with a land vehicle. I have found some huge canions separating 2 sides that not even my jetpack could cross it, and also a planet with so much water that only swiming or flying to the other side was possible.

Ah crap you're probably right. But holy shit is it painstaking to walk around a planet esp with using your ship over and over drains it of it's take-off fuel in something like 4 goes. One of the areas that needs addressing before pretty clouds and owning freighters.

If you got the hyperdrive blueprint you're fine. You got the preorder ship at the right time. You can find the antimatter blueprints later (as well as suspension fluid), or just buy any of these components through trade.

I'm about to get home for a marathon day of this. Gonna buy the first other ship I can find and fly around looking for blueprints a while before giving up.

Where did you find suspension fluid blueprint?

I would hold off until you at least understand the game systems and controls. There's a lot to learn in the first 30. Weed is enough for that first playthough, IMO

So, when we upload our creature and planet data, where does it upload to? Is there a database where we can view accolades that we've attained compared to others? I was under the impression before launch that there would be an "Atlus" where we could view this data.

Loving the game, I just wish it was less inventory management.

That's also very true... thus some sort of hover vehicle that floats on any terrain. Hell they could think of something... could have it's own jetpack/boosters etc and be solar powered or some shit so it's not constantly sucking up isotope.

Oh yeah totally forgot that it's an option. Seeing how NMS is the only game I play in my PS4 right now and for the foreseeable future I changed this. My brain is fine now. Thanks.

I started up last night and got far enough to repair my ship and bounce up to the moon of the planet I started on. I kind of hated my starting planet, It was drab and had a high temperature so I had to constantly manage my temp guage. I did find some neat obelisks and a monument and manage to make some money to buy a better multi-tool.

I was dissapointed to find that the moon I travelled to was toxic so I had to immediately make a beeline for a shelter after landing. I was always least interested in the survival aspects of the game but I knew going in that they would define a large part of the gameplay loop. I do hope to find a Garden world at some point so I can really take my time exploring. Overall though the experience has been what I wanted and I'm pretty happy with my inital play time.

Doing 100% sativa strains for NMS :)

Good, so far this game is bug-free for me :-)

I still cannot decide on what to name my first System/Planet/Creatures/Flora, lol.

I am NOT naming the waypoints, F that noise, lol. Just uploading them for creds.

I just name the system and the planet. I'm too lazy to type all the animals and plants.

I just use my two daughters' names, and the number.
I wish I were an NBA player, I would have a huge pool of names to draw inspiration from

Is there an easy way to go back to systems you've been to? I have quite gotten the hang of navigating the star map. It feels fiddly and I wasn't finding my old haunts.

Not necessarily true. The game's performance only seems to suffer when it has to generate a huge amount of stuff at once, as soon as it catches up you're at a stable 30 fps again. That suggests the game is entirely CPU-limited, with the GPU having no issues keeping a steady 30. The world generation (but likely not rendering, as that would be dumb) happens all around you, not just where you're looking, so increasing the FOV should have no effect on that. Of course, it would mean that the GPU would have to work a bit harder, but again, it doesn't seem to be all that strained at the moment.

Well, I'm not sure how it happened but it has. I'm walking around thinking of scanning stuff in the real world. :(

Would anybody else be super interested in a "casual mode"?

I'd personally LOVE to see a "non-survival mode" where it just allowed us endless fuel etc. and it became more about just seeing all we could see and discovering new planets/flora/fauna. Even if it became unlockable after making it to the center... i'd be completely ok with that and would likely never leave that mode.

Ok game is not performing very good (PS4 here) but since I'm now sort of sadly used to not well optimized games this gen I can go over it at least for a few hours.
Clearly it's not hurting my eyes, it's just... well sad since PS4 should have games with the ambition its power permits... and clearly No Man's Sky like so many pushed games by marketing are far from what has been promised.

BUT the feel of exploration in this massive massive universe is awesome. I could stay on each planet for hours (I'm only at my second one lol and that's what I did) so if there's things new here and there during the "trip" to the center of the galaxy then game will stay fresh and enjoyable for me after many many hours in.

I've chosen a sort of Atlas thing at the beginning but I don't know exactly what to expect... this is what is so good in this game. You don't know what to expect so it's like everything is a surprise :p

I won't read anything NMS now so I can enjoy the game to its full potential (I'll read other opinions posts but no info about content or any sort of spoilers).

Thank you for this game Hello Games. Hoping to have a few patches for better performance, improved gameplay mechanics or interactions. Free DLC would be perfect of course but for big, well made content I'd be ok to pay some extra money.

But yeah best for this sort of game is free support during 3-6 months. Hoping the sales are good to finance this :p

Loving the game, I just wish it was less inventory management.

I think someone said if you come across another person's discoveries, they get added to yours with a yellow marker or some such.

But as far as I know, nothing like downloading the Hitchhiker's Guide, presumably so you'll keep exploring instead of reading about everyone else's discoveries.

It's VERY wonky and the NMS server has to say "online"

-I go to Galactic Map
-Press Up on D-pad to 'search for discoveries"
-then wait for a sound
-press right on D-pad and it'll scroll through the 'closest discoveries" which USUALLY show my previous discovered systems.
