No Man's Sky: Voyagers Update Announced

What drives me to continue playing is getting the different blueprints to build new vehicles like the Mech and the Submersible. Then I use those to further explore ocean planets or try to take on tougher enemies. Then there's trying to reach further out galaxies which contain unique planet types and Animals, weather phenomenon etc to see. Also I want to get different types of starfighters to pilot and build in my personal fleet with my personal Freighter. Also I want to finally explore one of those derelict abandoned ships straight out of a horror movie...and now apparently there's zero G and space walking available. There's clearly a lot to see and do in this game if you don't mind making your own goals and moving at your own pace.
I totally get why some keep playing. Same with Minecraft. But these days, I'd rather have have my exploration be tied around quests and stories. I think I'm too old to do shit, for no reason. I'd rather just move on to the next game.

But still missing good gameplay/combat. I'm playing NMS on my Switch 2, after playing SF and it's hard to just have fun. Playing, without creating reasons in my own head to keep going, because the story in NMS is god awful.
Bethesda and Hello Games working together would end up as the best game ever made for me. The world needs them to combine the games!

No Man's Sky for the base building and having a fleet and creature variety and vehicles and mining and update frequencies.

Starfield for the spaceship building and roleplaying and story and great combat and cities and interactivity and physics.

Fair enough, and I understand that that kind of "make your own adventure" gameplay isn't for everyone

This one makes it for me, I will get a copy when i see one next time.

The incredible thing is they have just push new content for free while many AAA say that if they can have overpriced skins at launch they can actually profit for the game and have to shut down.

How the fuck they're making enough money to keep dishing out updates like this for free? lol. I keep telling myself I need to get back into this game but end up never doing it;(
They more than likely made enough money when the game first released to keep it going all this time, people forget quite how many copies it sold even with the launch issues, and the development costs of the game were relatively low

does the game has a fluid storyline to go or is just explore the planets anyway you want?

There is barely any story at all and the 'ending' is a joke really.

Unfortunately the vast majority of the game is spend just aimlessly wandering around which wouldn't be an issue if the worlds were actually interesting, for the most part they are just empty voids of randomly generated slop. The game doesn't really have any direction, so if that is your thing you will like it.

Game costs were low? They remortgaged their house, offices were flooded, they are small but not a group of 4-5 people either. They got a lot of sales after they started adding update after update and especially everytime they added a new platform.

It still sells new copies and there are interviews with Murray where he clarifies that each new update brings in a lot of new sales and the game is pushed back up the Steam charts to such a meaningful degree that it allows and is the continued incentive to keep developing the game. They're making good money from it. I used the word "clarifies" because the common myth is that Hello Games are the kindly Mother Teresa of the games world who give away new content out of the goodness of their heart, which is fanciful bollocks.

I keep trying and want to play with VR to make it more immersive, but -- long sessions in VR just aren't realistic for me. It's a slow start, but when you start traveling with the pulse engine, it's pretty cool.
NMS is fabulous in VR, and like anything that's a hybrid game it elevates the experience to such a degree that I will only play it in VR now. I'd say give it a go even if you start with small play sessions initially, but only if you have your VR legs.

I've been distracted by other VR games so I haven't played NMS since the last few updates but this has me itching to get back into it.

"While exact initial launch revenue for No Man's Sky isn't publicly detailed, estimates based on early sales figures suggest the game generated over $130 million in revenue shortly after release in 2016. This was based on approximately 2.2 million units sold at a $60 price point across PlayStation 4 and PC."

"The development cost for No Man's Sky is not publicly known, but early discussions suggested it might have been between $1 million and $7 million, with some speculating it could be higher."

Think it's safe to say they made an astronomical amount of money when the game released, regardless of the bad press

It's incredibly impressive the way they've supported this title, and I give them massive kudos for it. I have given this game two tries when it was in game pass, and it's unfortunately just not for me, but I'm pumped for all the people getting quality support for all these years after the fact, outstanding stuff.

i gotta say i loved the first 10 or 20hrs of it in VR, its incredibly impressive in PSVR2 and makes it impossible to enjoy in flatscreen buuuut the planets soon become boring, the whole randomness becomes almost samey and with each planet just being a set of figures with no actual diversity, i.e. a pink mountainy planet has the same pink mountains all over it, same with the flora and creatures so when you land in one spot there's no real incentive to explore the planet as its roughly the same all over.. hopefully with their new game and keeping it all contained to a single planet they will have a lot more diversity (oh we hate that word! lol) and a lot more actual artistry involved in crafting unique areas to explore

I just wish they'd provide much extended LOD settings for stuff like grass to the PC version. The pop-in just when walking around still breaks the spell for me.

I still haven't played the game.

I only care about single player. How much of the content am i going to miss? Seems like every update is multiplayer focused.

Also, after all these updates and added content over the years will this be overwhelming for a newbie?

Does it make the game fun? Because I've tried it numerous times over the years and each time it bored me to tears.

Very interested in light no fire though. I wish they would turn all attention to that.

The next update should focus on a complete rework of the rudimentary aiming and shooting mechanics. On a controller, this is one of the more clunky games you can play. There should be a degree of aim assist when targeting the erratic enemy units, and the visual feedback of doing so is still pretty crude and unsatisfying, it feels feeble and unresponsive in the hand. Better weapon and movement animations would help with that. In third person, the player avatar still runs around like he's ice skating.

The game keeps changing over time. Last time I played this five years ago the story mode was interesting and well written.

It's essentially a survival game in space, like Minecraft, but the game loop isn't as good as Minecraft because all the systems don't really tie into each other.

If you can get it on sale, there's fun to be had for 25 hours. After that it becomes repetitive.

I never have done MP

For me it's single player only. PLENTY of content for a lonely space traveler finding your way. The "goal" is to discover what is at the center of the universe. Never have. I just like to zone out and travel around and find things.

Here is a summary list of ALL of the updates since launch. The game has plenty of single player focused content and added updates.

Lastly, It's still a great time to jump in, especially now that you can tailor how much of the survival/crafting elements you want to experience since you can create a custom mode and take it out completely or make it a hardcore survival game or anything in between.

The PSSR effect on PSVR2 is unreal.

I'm not so sure about non VR mode, though. I see a lot of aliasing and shimmering in NMS running on my PS5 Pro (any mode), in the space stations in particular. But I've found no similar complaints anywhere. I wonder if I'm experiencing a rare bug or something (I've already tried reinstalling the game and starting a new save).

That only works on the Pro?

Just picked it up for 60% off on the Switch eShop(Nintendo Switch 2 version). $20. Will gladly double dip because of all
the support Hello Games have given the title.

Meh wake me up when they fillinallyy make an update tht changes the core gameplay loop.its stil the same game but with new cosmetics. Your stil only a space farming ingredients

Finally, custom ship building. Most of the ships currently are really ugly.

And yeah, the gameplay loop is quite boring and the story not that interesting either.

The new update is really buggy :|

Probably best to hold off a bit before jumping on and messing with the new stuff - at least make sure to back up your save.

I didn't and now I have a cursed invisible corvette I can't get rid of wasting one of my ship slots.

Which system/platform are you playing on?

I've been scratching my head and wondering if it was a downgrade too. But I only dip in on patches so its hard for me to tell. But I reckon its looked better thats for sure.

You just can't impress some people.

You know have put so many hours trying to like this guy but to me, its just a very shallow game, there is nothing really interesting going on other than grinding and it doesn't do anything particularly good. Exploration is boring and repetitive, gunplay is awful, planet variety is really lacking, once you see 7-8 planets you have seen them all.

I just dont think this game is great and I dont even understand why it has such a big community supporting in the first place
