Right before the Neo's unveil, how do you feel about the system?

Well the PS4 reveal still managed a nice line in video game announcements and software focus, so if that's what this upcoming event will be like then I'll be pretty satisfied. I just don't really care about the Neo in general, and I doubt I'll ever own one to replace my launch system, so I'd like to know that there will be something beyond hardware talk to look forward to.

E3 suffered (new first party)games wise due to the stronger games reveal at the 2013 Meeting

I for one don't expect this event to be the same. Hardware focused so that TGS and Europe event can focus on games games games

What if this conference is intended as a replacement for Gamescom/PGW though? Could see it happening.

Because marketing deals. Also RD is a far cry from GTA.

Come on bruh, when is the last time R* announced a new title at a press conference? (not including GTA V remaster which is not a new game)
GTA IV, RDR, Max Payne 3, GTA V were all reveals that were done on Rockstars own website and YT channels.
Can you not see the pattern yet?

Can we at least expect the Uncharted 4 DLC reveal here?

Personally, I don't think so.
It'll take ND the better part of a year to get it done (similar time scale for Left Behind) so I think Feb 2017+ is when we will see it.

Edit: maybe teaser trailer at PSX though (is that event still happening?)

A event dedicated to the hardware upgrade is what i thought would be the best way to announce the thing. Gives them time to comprehensively address all the concerns that people have and also showcase some software taking advantage of the extra power.
Will be counting down the days...so excite!

what are the chances of spider-man showing up at this thing?

Also realised will likely never see vanilla PS4 footage again in any marketing stuff pubs throw out.
I know all games will 100% work across both but it'll kinda suck to never see how the game looks like on a regular PS4 until launch day for games.

Not a big deal but yeah.

Maybe.

I wouldn't put my chips in that basket though

I feel like...theres not going to be a Gamescom or a PGW show. Because why would there be if you're doing this, and you've got TGS barely a week later?

But I'm a pessimist so even thinking that for Sony it's likely: E3 -> This -> TGS (Japanese focus) -> PSX, I still don't see any games revealed here.

I look forward to eighty thousand DF and otherwise threads comparing graphical quality between Neo, NX and the existing consoles.in September.

Because from an event setup perspective, I don't look at Playstation as a monolithic single company, but different business divisions under US, Europe, Japan, Asia, with a global leadership.

From experience, unless Global makes a decision to, each region would want to have a tentpole event that represents their region's and business division's hard work over the past year.

That's why Taiwan host a press conference. Why Korea does. Why China does. Why America does (twice). Why Europe does. Why Japan does.

I understand his reasoning.

It makes (to me anyway) little sense to release a system like Neo so "fast" despite it being a better system when comparing it to the PS4. Take into account that the Microsoft Scorpio is coming next year. Sure, this system might change and it might come out less powerful ... but it'll still be a powerful system.

Sony will have 14 months to sell as much Neo's as they can before Microsoft will release Scorpio. It'll make money ... but what happens after that? Will Sony respond and release ANOTHER system? Sure, people will spend their hard-earned money on Neo but will they do it again when Sony announced the succesor to Neo?
14 months is a long time man. And how about the reverse option? How many potential buyers are MS going to lose when Neo is the most power platform on the market for a full year? Lots of factors at play here, we have to wait and see who made the smartest move. IMO MS only announced Scorpio for marketing reasons to try and get Xbox fans to wait.

- Neo has a holiday all to itself and can snatch X1 owners
- This is already year 3 into the generation not a fresh start
- What is the real world difference between 4.2TF & 6TF when both are still unified to there predecessor platform
- Will VR be a big thing? Would be a strong move for PS if so
- Games are what moves units, who has the best ones?

Can't call this either way, but I don't see many reasons Sony has to be worried about a power difference.

If I were to trade in my PS4 in advance of Neo, what steps should I take to safeguard my data?

Obviously, I will make sure all my latest saves are backed up to the cloud, and also on a USB stick. And then I will delete my personal data off the PS4 before taking it to Best Buy. But is there anything else I need to do? If I manually copy the screenshots folder to a USB stick and then put them on the Neo, will they attach to my trophies? I assume no.

The PS2 is the best console of all time...wasn't the most powerful console of its generation...

They won't need to make "two games" anymore than PC devs have to make a "thousand games" for every different combination of PC hardware...
A thousand times this. I don't understand where this two games argument is coming from. On PC you can configure the settings to your preference. I would think that this "Neo Patch", and whatever Microsoft is calling there upgraded patch would just be settings that would work best on either console and it would be done on their end.

I've been thinking of holding off on Neo until we see some real tangible benefits to existing games I already have in my library. The second that happens I'm in.

Ahhh who am I kidding? If there's a decent trade-in deal I'll probably bite right away, regardless. I'm a sucker for new console hardware. And I wouldn't mind trading away my remaining launch PS4 that sounds like a blow dryer (my Vader nerd edition is silent by comparison, so it stays for now).

I wonder how they're going to showcase this new tech when we are just watching demos on a screen. How can they showcase the power? I'm curious.

I mean. Graphics are the easiest thing to show on in video and screens. Much easier than gameplay or "feel".

So I would say they will showcase it just fine...

Playstation Meeting - Focus on platform reveal while showing what already released and near future titles look like on the hardware

TGS - Focus on Japanese titles

PGW/Euro PSX - Focus on European games and smaller titles

PSX - Focus on future titles. Remember that this is the last major gaming event as far as announcements go for six months. Last year we saw games like NnK2 and Ace Combat 7 be announced and we haven't seen them since.

All of them should be able to coexist because the represent a different focus for Sony. And they're all important for various reasons. TGS and the Euro conferences are focused on those markets and PSX is their yearly fan celebration.

i think Sony could get Close to Scorpios 6Tflops if they decide to clock up the APU internals. The cooling Solution is not critical. they can alsways Change that on the Way to mass Produktion. That and the Amount of Ram.
But dont tell me now 6Tflops are impossible because of heat Management - i just cant believe there is no technical Solution for a small Casing with alot of heat to disperse.
No noname fan and heatpipes it is then i guess, huh?!

Not much considering that's exactly the way it's been for the last three years.

shit, someone get sony on the phone. they need to hire this guy

The power difference between PS4 and X1 needs to be highlighted in a DF article. There was some launch stuff like Tomb Raider I think ran at 60fps on ps4 but after devs got up to snuff with X1, the differences really aren't noticeable relatively speaking.

Neo can make that difference more apparent.

Can I get a PS4 regular price drop?

If the rumour of a Neo as well as a PS4 Slim being released is true, the original PS4 will drop in price fast, I could see $250 in September to clear the stock.

My money is on the PS4 Neo being $399-$449 depending on hard drive option, and if there is a PS4 slim it will be $299. If no slim the regular PS4 will still drop to $299 with a game.

Is there actually a rumor of a slim PS4? I though that was just some journalist speculating that Sony may release one?

People will be amazed I think when they really see what a console with this kind of power can do. I look forward to a moment during the event where they're showing a regular PS4 title running on the original PS4 and then they do a seamless transition to the same exact game running on the newer, much more powerful system.

People need to see the differences, I think, before they can understand what this kind of power in a console actually means.

Will this not lose a lot of its impact when we are all watching the announcement on Twitch.

I just want Resogun in 4K!

What's the point? OG PS4 is still smaller than Xbox One S.

Just release Neo for 399$ with a big hard drive (1 TB or 2 TB).

If you are interested in 4K, no point in buying a PS4 Slim

If your are not interested in 4K, you have 2 choices: keep your existing PS4 or upgrade....

Want a cheaper PS4? The original model will get a price-cut

I personally think the Durango will not change anything for Microsoft.

The people who already bought a PS4 are part of the ecosystem now. All their friends are on PS4, and their games are only working in PS4 machines whether it's physical or digital. Gamers don't want to start from scratch especially because this isn't a new generation.

People who haven't bought a XB1 or PS4 yet are the cheap gamer market. These gamers will either jump on Xbox One S or PS4 (I'm sure that will get a price drop with the Neo reveal).

Or people who have not jumped in yet to this gen and are not cheap will may as well get the new PS4 Neo, this will have the extra year lead to Durango

Finally the gamers that care alot about graphics will just stick to PC gaming.

The console gamer who wants the latest graphics on their multiplatform games on a console are a really small subset
.

PS4 Neo and PS4 price drop will make the sales different between XB1 even greater arena by the time Durango releases it will be too late. And 2 years after Durango we will be hearing rumblings of the PS5 which won't be held back by forward compability and will have true next gen games.

Call of Duty and FIFA are a small subset?

Exactly, alot of people (from the US) are saying all we need is PSX/E3 (2 US based shows) and TGS (Japan where the console business is dying..)

Now if they do a PSX in Europe this year, that fills the void, but not doing a European show, kinda goes against what has made them king in focusing on more markets than their competitor.

In all fairness they're about the same size just different dimensions. The Xbox One S is a bit taller and a bit wider but the PS4 is significantly longer front-to-back making them pretty much equal.

Ok they are equal. Still, why Sony should release a PS4 Slim?

Neo is their "Slim"

Since most people interested in Neo will probably want an HDR 4K tv to match, here's an article about some of the choices:

HDR only works with Movie/Cinema mode, so right now the choice is pretty much LG.
That's weird. I wonder why you can't do HDR in game mode.

I'm going to have a tough time convincing the wife that not only do I need a PSVR and a Neo I'm also going to need a $5k TV this Fall...

Call of Duty and FIFA are a small subset?

You need ask how many buy those games on a specific system because of power .
Those games sell in the millions and there many reasons for it , DLC , ecosystem , friends , power , price etc etc .
In fact something like FIFA will always sell more on PS since EU is where it get most of it sales and PS have that region on lock .
