No Man's Sky |OT| Hello Worlds.

Has anyone else had the hilarious bug where, when lifting off a planet using your launch thrusters, it FULL ON BLASTS YOU INTO ORBIT. It happend at least 10 time last night. I was just trying to get airborne to scan the surface... but nope, im up by the asteroids in 1 second.

Get used to it. I'm a good 20 warps in and the repetition is getting to me hard.

Ugh. That's disheartening to hear. The resource management stuff was just a means to an end for me to to see more of these little story beats and meeting new aliens. I'm not actually _enjoying_ shooting a rock for 10 minutes to gather enough material to make things. It's not terrible, but I am only doing so so I can upgrade tech to explorer new areas to meet new aliens and see their little story blurbs.

But if all that starts to repeat, then my focus is definitely going to shift to just burning through the paths to reach the end. The exploration is good fun - but I imagine much like the story bits it'll start to repeat itself before too long then.

Guess I'll just have to savor every bit of new content left because what is there has been wonderful and right up my alley.

I was so ready for this game, and literally none of the criticisms that have come out thus far would bother me EXCEPT what I'm hearing about a real lack of variety in regards to planets and lifeforms.

I could explore the galaxy for hours and hours, but not if it's a galaxy full of palette swaps and mix and match body parts.

All my planets have been very different. And some of the animal life is pretty crazy. Funnily enough I seem to be enjoying the plant life even more, maybe because it adds so much to the atmosphere of the planets.

Thanks. Time to mine.

Just be sure to transfer your stuff over to the new ship once you buy it, otherwise you'll lose whatever the old ship was carrying.

And some posters have started that they found damaged ships on planets and could claim them for their own. Needs repairs though.

The first real bummer was when those terminal puzzles started repeating

I mean both games have some pretty sizeable flaws on release despite all the good. It doesn't surprise me that the OT is still the flowers and rainbows safe zone.

Every game has flaws. NMS is a passion project by a lovely developer that are actively supporting the game. Some people take joy in shitting on it.

It was a little bit confusing for me, but i chose the Atlas path for the story stuff so it's been guiding me a bit. Just do a scan and you should see where the next object is at. When I got to space, I got the distress beacon and went to that. Just keep bouncing between those markers and you should be good.

Took me a bit until it popped up on the lower left, to press R1/L1 to go fast though.

Yeah, i jumped to another planet and started exploring and got a bit sidetracked (found a tradepost, an observatory, some ruins, a distress call and several pods to upgrade my inventory). I'm not that worried, as I've been exploring this planet for now. But i do wonder I should have got a quest for my hyperdrive now lol

Won't get to play until Friday but for those currently playing is it fair to describe NMS this way?

It's like a cross between Endless Ocean (taken from other thread) and the adventure mode in Minecraft.

That's the impression I've gotten for a while with the game and I actually like that. I rarely find enjoyment in the building aspect of Minecraft but i love just exploring and seeing what I can find and building a small outpost or things along the way to keep me alive. Endless Ocean is a pretty immersive game when it comes to sea exploration. I've been looking for a simple description of the game and the above seems fitting. At least from looking at the game without having played it yet.

There are different terminal puzzles? I always get what follows W,X,Y,Z X,Y,Z,W Y,Z,W,X ?,?,?,? (obviously Z,W,X,Y). Which is pretty disappointing, because I noticed the pattern instantly on my first one.

I'm at 30 slots and counting right now, "so far" it seems to be unlimited.

Gonna spoiler how I got more slots cause IDK how the thread is handling it but can you please answer the question in spoilers?

Is the only way to get more slots to find those crashes beacon things that have suit upgrade slots in them?

My first few planets all had very odd looking creatures, but my complaint was they all were the same basic color. This weird kind of wet mud color. However, the last two planets I were on had _dramatically_ different animals with much more color to them.

So yeah, you might run into a few planets that all have kind of 'samey' weird looking creatures, but there is diversity to be found.

That seems to be the case. They are pretty easy to find if you just fly around looking out for them.

I still can't believe 13 people made this game.
Holy shit.

What are you guys doing with your Atlas Stones?

Are we supposed to save those or something?

Is it possible to stay on someone's tail in space combat? They always fly away, do a 180, and come straight at me. That's been the entire loop of combat for me.

Wow. So my package is in Portland; I live 2 miles away in Vancouver, and my expected delivery day now says it'll arrive by the 12th (it was supposed to be delivered today). Please tell me that's only the latest its expected, and that it'll likely show up today :(

I was so happy when I discovered my first form of wildlife on my starter world. I thought it was a barren deathworld from the description, but to my surprise I spotted a cute little fox like creature. I immediately ran over to greet it, and as I got closer I noticed it had some not so cute boils all over its body. But it was still an alien fox and I was excited to name it something fittingly clever. And then it slowly turned to face me, and I watched in terror as what should have been a mouth opened sideways enlarging bigger than its entire head, and it screamed at me before running off. I just sat there with my jaw agape for a few moments before resuming my important task of mining.

I never ran into that thing again, but I did come across a herd of turtle moose. They were also covered in boils and had golem faces. Very unfortunate.

Hah, my abandoned preorder ship with the hyperdrive still installed is still sitting in the space station (after going to a planet and back)

not going back though. actually gonna close the game and see if that's any help.

Happened to me several times as well. Bang straight into the orbit :D

I've seen another that requires a subtraction pattern in order to figure out the next number (i.e 90, 85, 81, 78, ??). I wish there is more variety on those, the patters are very easy to figure it out (i still missed a couple of puzzles at the beginning lol)

When you start the game you have a few objectives. One of them is obtaining blueprint for your ships hyperdrive, enabling you to create that item any point in the game moving forward.

If you use your pre-order ship, it bypasses this sequence due to the game assuming you completed this task. Unless you find a ship or purchase that already has this hyperdrive, you are unable to create this item or learn upgraded construction to it later.

Thanks for the 411. I read it skips the tutorial parts (which is why I did not DL the ship yet), did not know it glitches out so you do not have the blueprints.

Thanks for the heads up. So since everything is repaired, and fully charged up... I assume I am safe to now enter the DLC code and get the ship?

Good to know!

It's weird. I played for about four hours last night and walked away going "I can see myself getting bored of this". Then I stop playing and go "damn I wanna go play even if it's only for like 15 minutes!".

I couldn't figure out what the requirements were for the parts needed for the hyperdrive, so I just bought one from the trader. But I don't have any idea how to get the parts needed for the fuel.

I don't understand what to do with the preorder ship. I haven't "collected" it yet because I didn't want to screw up my hyperdrive quest, but the message that I have unredeemed content is really annoying.

Once I fix my hyperdrive what am I supposed to do with the preorder ship? Can I sell the old one and swap everything over or something?

Also, I redeemed the LE items but not sure they even did anything. Like what is trader charisma?

Well did you already get the hyperdrive blueprints and install it on your current ship?

Post progress. I think I may restart tonight. I made a lot of ground and hate to lose it all. A real bummer.

I am just very frustrated that, a game with the premise that I have wanted for decades, I find so disappointing.

Believe me, I'd have wanted nothing more than to love the game.

I am THIS close to just biting the bullet and buying this digitally since my LE never showed up today. Can't really justify double-dipping on this in the slightest, but... :(

Is there a final reviews OT thread now that final scores arr coming out? So far I've come across two final reviews:
5/10 Jim Sterling
6/10 German publication

Would love to see if those are getting balanced out or if that's the current feeling...

This happened to me the first time I took off in a new ship I found, and I was worried it was just the way it took off lol

I'm just wondering... Did everyone start on a toxic gas world? Because I did and I was under pressure to work out where to find titanium to keep my hazard suit operational. Took ages to realise you get them off the drones.

Is there anyway to reset this since I redeemed it right off the bat

Everyone starts on a different planet, could be any kind!

Mate, maybe it's time to let it go. You dont like it, which is cool, and no amount of wishing otherwise will change it. Maybe you can accept it wasnt for you, you said you respect your time too much to waste it with resource managment, maybe respect it enough to stop posting what is wrong with it, which wont change anything anyway.

Dont mean that harshly, just seems like such a waste of time lol

Ship doesn't seem to do anything other than have the components already installed and look visibly different when you approach it.

Seems like people just sell their ship for credits when they are ready and then use the DLC ship. So, basically the DLC is used just to obtain a bit more currency if it's my understanding.

No, just need to go into console settings and delete your data, then start the game again.

You're probably right, but I am going to give it another go tonight, try a few more planets, and if it still feels a bit samey, I'll shelve it and just hope things get better in patches.

Game crashed two times in a row now after warping. This happened yesterday as well. ANyone else having this problem?

My girlfriend and I were so excited warping for the first time...
Waiting for that new system...

CRASH.

I crashed on my first ever No Man's Sky warp rofl.
I still love this game so much.
