Is anyone surprised really?

Procedural games are always going to be repetitive.

This game is actually even worse than borderlands 1 because at least that had 4 player co-op.

Well fortunately people here are only discussing the reviews... and they'll probably still be here to see and discuss the rest of them too, if they don't feel like they're being chased out of the thread for not saying nice things.

Go back to my original post, what part of it was "chasing people out" that's a bizarre spin on an off-the-cuff statement that seems to have offended quite a lot of you.

It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

One correction in your review: you say there's no indicator for when your inventory is full, but that's what the red shield-like icon on the HUD means.

Otherwise, excellent review as always, you're one of the best at the moment.

Correct discussed that here in a prior post. its cut from video and thanks.

I went into other threads here and elsewhere and man that icon must not have only confused me lol.

So imo this game is a shining example of quantity over quality. You can have infinite amount of planets but the gameplay lacking depth like this game is not fun imo.

Can I get bullet points of his reasons?

First sentence.
No Man’s Sky effectively portrays the loneliness of space by providing so little for the player to do that it’s tempting to flush one’s self out of an airlock just to break the tedium.

Not that you can do that. That would be too interesting.

Web Cache of his review as some No Man's Sky fanboys DDOS'd his site for his review.

Jim Sterling's review is what I was worried about. Not his review, but his reasons are exactly what I was worried about. May not affect some, but those reason definitely affect me.

I had mentioned it before, I love Sterling and listen to his podcasts every week, but hes shitting on the game for about two years, now. He and Laura. He was never going to give it a chance, especially with the recent video about survival games.

If there's a quote in a review that says the developer, 'can learn a thing or two from Bethesda,' then there is a systemic problem.

How has he been shitting on it? Real question.

Jim Sterling very clearly has things that he likes and things that he doesn't. That's totally fine. He's one person.

But because of this, I take his opinions with a giant grain of salt. 9.5/10 for Hyrule Warriors kinda pushed me over the edge.

But again, this is fine. Actually, I like this, because then I can follow people instead of massive companies that hire dozens of reviewers. But with this you have to find a reviewer whose opinion is one you share a majority of the time, otherwise you'll kinda just be shooting from the hip (not saying you are).

Well...

All the people coming out of the woodwork to slam this game, amazing.

This isn't "people coming out of the woodwork". This is people discussing the review for the game, which is the singular reason for this topic existing. You wouldn't say people were "coming out of the woodwork" to praise the game if the first set of reviews were glowing. You just don't want to read negative discussion.. kind of a "if you have nothing nice to say..." sort of deal. Personally, I'll still be picking up the game anyway, and prior to seeing your post, I was just lurking the thread without posting.. but that shouldn't be a requirement for people just to avoid posting how the game is quite likely not living up to the expectations many had for it. If the first review for Uncharted 4 was a 4/10, it would rightfully be a topic of discussion, until other reviews came along to shift the scale. If the first 4/5 reviews were in that range, then discussion would very likely turn to how Naughty Dog may have screwed this one up somewhat.

It's just discussion, and to be fair, you weren't even paying enough attention to even be aware that there were multiple reviews out already, so your input with that first post offered less than many of those you're complaining about.

It's gonna be tough for the 12 man team to read the reviews of their work.

Can't be a good feeling having people shit on something you've put all your effort into.

Still look at something like driveclub, that was pretty much shit on by a hell of a lot of people and perceptions changed. Although I found the game good on launch and network issues didn't bother me too much.

Hello games have an advantage in that we're in an age of patching, so they can drastically change this game, will they feel the need to is the real question.....

It happens you keep ya head up and keep pushing really that's all they can do. Whether it sells well will be the real reason they continue to update it which judging by my close watching of the charts over the months it should do pretty well

How has he been shitting on it? Real question.

He said many times the game looked boring and lifeless. Then he and Laura went on some times about how they were hearing rumors that the game was in development hell, and said some things on the way of "what do you do, they didnt show anything" and generally expressed disbelief that the game was anything more than the product of Sony hype machine. Oddly enough, they seemed to like Sean. At least Gavin did.

Honestly, I clicked the 4/10 and confirmed my suspicion that John Smith was a made up reviewer. However, I still don't necessarily understand the joke. Is this a meme I've missed out on?

I guess I'm one of few who's able to put this game into its proper context, in that it's still a game made by a very small team, and appreciate it based on that.

Great game thus far. Could have waited for a discount, but definitely don't feel stiffed out of my 60 bucks.

You can be proud of your work and accept criticism. Just because Sean made his dream game that doesn't mean that game is for everybody or that game is amazing.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
Think No Man Sky is done with me, every time I warp it crashes...

Can't get the fuck out of my current star system.

Best time I had was on a planet with no Environmental Hazards (heat cold rad ect). I could explore with out contently running inside or to a ship. Really sucks that everything is so samey.

Got a new ship, a ton of suit upgrades (space and blue prints) and a few new guns but don't really but don't really feel like I'm doing anything.

True, and I'm sure most devs are aware that their game won't be loved by everyone.

But if their work is critically panned it's not going to be easy for them I imagine.

While most people on forums say that metacritic is meaningless, there's a reason review embargo's are in place. It's obviously not irrelevant to those who decide to enforce them.

Why would it being made by a small team matter to someone that's paying $60 for it anyway? How is that useful (let alone "proper") context?

If you don't feel stiffed out of $60, then there's not context to be concerned with.. you'd have been happy if the same game were made by Ubisoft.

The photo is of Todd Howard, who directed Fallout 4. Lines up with the joke text about the game being worse than Fallout.

I was crucified in some other thread for NMS where I said this game would be better off if it had only a handful of planets to explore instead of the procedural BS this game has.

Also, just would like you to know I never bought/played NMS, but yea, this game is a FLOP.

Did Jim say in his review whether or not he completed the game by reaching the centre?

That's what I want to know most of all, if the game changes significantly the further you get into it, and whether or not reaching the centre is worth the effort.

I love the smell of nonsense in the morning.

I went into it expecting Star Citizen but I ended up with Farming Simulator 2016 mixed with Dark Souls and a dash of Forza 6!

Sometimes I feel like some game reviewers just fall over themselves to not call a spade a spade, as if they're treating developers with baby gloves. It's strangely the opposite of film critics, who seem to revel in outdoing each other when reviewing a movie they don't like.

That's a troll post chief.
