and apparently it's a common fatal flaw. What the FUCK, LG?

According to the internet, this is a problem with the G4 motherboard that's been around since its debut. The phone randomly crashes and then gets stuck in a boot-loop from which there is no escape. I've been able to get it to boot to the home screen twice now but then it immediately restarts again seconds later. There is no fix and LG has not officially acknowledged what the issue is with the phone. It looks like people are able to get their phones replaced so that's good but this grinds my gears something fierce. I've only had this phone for about 6 months and was liking up to now. I'm hoping I can swap it for something else because I don't want to deal with this shit again.

I was curious if there were any other G4 users who on gaf who have had this same problem and if Verizon was cooperative in getting it replaced. I also wanted to get the word out because this is a pretty shitty design flaw that I wasn't aware of whatsoever when I bought this phone turned paper weight.

Can you get into fastboot?

Edit: nvm. Like you said, if it's a hardware fault, you're pretty much screwed. They said they would offer a repair so I would recommend contacting them.

Yeah, it's garbage. I've been disappointed with everything but the camera on mine. Had to buy a new one when my broken one got stolen when I was waiting for a new one to ship.

My G3 no longer reads my sim card correctly, I keep getting Sim card invalid errors or sim card not readable and even got a new card but still not working, of course the phone is out of warranty.

Why? I am thinking about buying one.

No Dual App anymore
Quick Remote no longer located in the notification bar
no rear volume rocker (ie: greatest external phone feature ever)
More cumbersome to remove the battery
Sound quality seems like it is cut in half. Not volume, mind you, but just the amount of sounds coming out of the speakers sounds like the symphony is down a few instruments.
Slippery as shit.

If LG would just go back to drawing board and put everything back the way they had it with the G4, minus the bootloop issue and with new processors, etc. it would be the GOAT phone on the market.

Dude, I literally bought one a month ago, and then four days later the same thing happened. I brought it to Best Buy, got it replaced, and then the same fucking thing happened again in the same amount of time. I then went back to Best Buy, but because it was 1 day past the two weeks since I got my first piece of garbage phone they said there's nothing I could do except call LG themselves.

I ended up just using my Dad's old Samsung G4. Best Buy blows.

Your loss...kind of. Best phone ever, man.

The G5 does have an awesome wide-angle lens shot, I will definitely give it that.

The Sprint version had an issue and there was a recall and free swap out thru Sprint.

The fixed version has been solid as a rock for me.

I'm in the middle of trying to get my G4 replaced, but if that doesn't happen I might go back to Samsung or get an Oppo R9. I kind of want the G5, but I'm wary.

I just recently had the boot loop issue with my G3, only buying a new battery seems to have fixed it in my case. Is this an issue with all LG phones? When I was Googling the problem and aaking around on social media, it seemed pretty common.

This happened to me. Went to AT&T, got a free replacement mailed in. Only ever had the one failure. It sucks with such a great phone too. Though I do like the G5 I have now.

I'm going to give AT&T a call tomorrow morning. Hopefully it'll just be a one off for me too.

My G4 died randomly due to the bootloop issue. Thankfully there was a month left on the warranty so I got a replacement. Curious to see how long it will last. Apparently it's super common on G4's and a bunch of their Android phones. It brings back early Xbox 360 vibes where your device was a ticking time bomb that will inevitably die.

Apparently the issue also exists to a lesser degree in the LG G5. I'm definitely never getting another LG phone again.

Yep same with mine and my partners. Ended up with a 5x it's a better phone overall imo. I miss the tap to wake and the volume key location though.

Yeah, it happens to all G4s eventually. It fucking sucks. Go to your provider or wherever you bought it from, ask them to send it in and get it repaired. My launch G4 died four months ago and I had to get it done too. It really says something that I still love and adore this phone DESPITE this absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable hardware defect. And I absolutely love it more than the V10 and G5. Frankly, more phones should emulate what the G4 offered, minus the huge flaws, obviously.

Man, mine just died this evening.

Tonight has sucked in general, bah!

Hell no. I'm never buying and LG phone again after this.

Well dang, there goes my 25$ commission.

But seriously don't buy LG, I recommend Samsung for reliability or Sony if someone wants a smartphone that doesn't feel like a plastic toy

G3 also bootloops. Bought a broken one with the aim to fix it and it's pretty much fine for now. I'm running an AOSP rom since I hate LG's take on android. My understanding was that it's a battery issue. The models are different between the G3 and G4 batteries but I bet they both have faulty construction.

I'll probably stay away from LG phones. My Nexus 5 was fine for a long time but it eventually had a black screen issue that seemed like a common enough problem for Google to step in and replace everyone's phones. I think I'll find a nice Galaxy phone. My favorite phone to date is still the the Galaxy Nexus.

Happened to my brother last week, and LG got him a replacement in less than two days. Still shitty that it happened, but at least they took care of it.

Same thing happened to my G3, had if for just under 2 years. A fantastic handset, I'd rank it as GOAT.

O2 were nice enough to issue me a G5 as replacement a few months back. Had some issues with this handset, getting it checked out today.

I've had problems with my LG G5 too which has gone back for repair twice. First it was the GPS that would either take 10-15 minutes to find my location or not work at all. Then I had a problem with the screen which would have some weird fault where the ghost of images would stay on the screen (sort of like screen burn) after i had been on some apps for a period of time and 'bleeding light'.

Both of which are common problems.

Great phone, but I wouldn't recommend due to the faults I've had.

My wife has the same problem with hers and it is annoying to no end. We are considering new options but not an LG anymore. Most likely she will inherit my Note 5 and I will get a new Axon 7.

It was my favorite phone ever, by far. The G5 is a MAJOR letdown in comparison.

Really?

I upgraded from the G4 to the G5 last month and have been thrilled. The G5 is my favorite phone that I've owned; the screen is great, it's fast, and my battery life has been stellar. I still have more than 50 percent at 7:00 p.m. at night (after unplugging at 7:00 a.m.).

What don't you like about the G5?

To the OP: LG has admitted there's a problem and let affected customers know what they should do. My wife's phone got stuck in a boot loop and Verizon replaced it.

You are basically screwed. Went through the same ordeal.
Even if they replace your motherboard with a new one it seems the new ones don't fix the issue. It will likely reappear a few months down the line.
Cut your loses and go with a better smartphone manufacturer.
Still have a repaired G4 as backup but to afraid to get it hot now since that seems that causes the issue to appear faster.
Got a 6s plus after my galaxy s7 edge had screen issues.
