Fine, how about just giving us that demo that was at E3. Will you both still not want that?

Didn't the E3 demo lack almost any polishing? FFXV doesn't need even more bad PR. The marketing has been a true shitshow so far and they definitely shouldn't continue with that.

Here's my ULTIMATE question.

My SUPER DUPER question I would love someone to answer. And it would have made a world of difference and put this game in a much better place for many people.

Why..........WHY did SE announce Final Fantasy Versus XIII AT ALL?

Why would ANY developer, announce vaporware that is more than 3 years out?

Don't do it.

Don't do that. 3+ years out? Just keep it under wraps! You don't build hype and keep hype for that long. Better to wait until it's actually......I don't know. A GAME.

This game should not have even BEEN ANNOUNCED until late 2014, as far as I'm concerned. Everything else before that was tripe.

Because the Fabula Nova Crystallis was supposed to be a three-game project from Day 1: XIII, VersusXIII and AgitoXIII. Then the XIV fiasco happened and Square had to reroute all their resources to fix that and we ended up getting mostly lower budget XIII sequels, that were asset-recycling heavy. By that point it was clear that the FNC wasn't gonna turn up as promised so Agito XIII became Type-0 and Versus XIII (when it finally entered development) became XV.

If FFXIV hadn't happened, maybe we would've got AgitoXIII and Versus on time as they were originally revealed, and Versus would be a vastly different game.

To announce their support for a particular platform. Squaresoft have always seemed to operate on the belief that announcing multiple Final Fantasy titles for a new platform will help build that platform's audience so that, when you eventually release those games there will be a large enough adoption rate to ensure you shift a few million copies. The logic isn't that flawed: if you like Final Fantasy games you might still be reluctant to buy a PS3 in case it only ends up with one game before they jump ship to Wii, but announcing two games reveals an intention to stick with that platform longterm and will make you more likely to pick the system up knowing you've invested in playing multiple Final Fantasy titles.

At the very least, it did work for them when they announced FFX and FFXI at the same event: it showed their continued support for Sony going into the next generation, and if you bought a PS2 for Final Fantasy you were rewarded with the best platform for JRPGs ever. The problem with XIII and VersusXIII is that they had simply tried to emulate that announcement without thinking of the logistics of actually producing those games. Neither were far along in production, with one basically just being a concept that they hoped they would actually be able to turn into a game. Then they struggled with HD game production like every other Japanese developer and we're in the mess we're in now.

The idea still seems pretty strong at SE, as it's supposedly the reasoning behind announcing FFVIIR last year rather than waiting until XV was out (which would have been the more sensible time to do it). Hopefully it works out for them this time.

I'm fine with it since I wasnt planning in playing it until there was a neo version anyway. If they need a few months to touch things up for a better experience, I'm all for it

I almost forgot GC is soon. And they have said the game will be there right? They'll probably either announce the new release date there or throw out a trailer and with the new date at the end.

It doesn't really seem like a good idea to use a major gaming event like Gamescom to announce bad news, especially with a game that is basically a meme for being delayed (even if not technically correct). Like the news outlets report, we should expect it (if at all) a little before the event, like the delay of Horizon: Zero Dawn was handled.

This. FFIX, X and XI were also announced all at the same time back in 1999, but their development pretty well due to good management.

This game is entering dangerous territory, meaning people will want it to fail just for the spectacle. Even if it is a good game.

Please, announce ff16 already. :p

FFIX, X, and XI were announced together. FFXIII, Versus XIII, and Agito XIII were announced together.

I can't imagine them announcing another three FF games together. Maybe FFXVI and a remake of an older FF.

Hmm not sure on this rumour. Gamenesia have had things right, and a LOT of things wrong. Kinda like throwing shit to the wall and hoping it sticks.

November 29 is an awfully specific date to throw out though. I'm in the believe camp, especially after E3.

With Gematsu backing it I think it's all but confirmed.
It was probably a Gamescom announcement among with a new trailer and other stuff.
It definetly sucks for me because now after Deus Ex I won't have anything else to play until Mafia 3 :/ (maybe the new Phoenix Wright game).
But if this helps them to avoid launching a game full of bugs, freezes, frame rate issues and other problems it's for the best. Releasing the game in such state would kill reception for good like happened with other games in the past like AC:Unity and Skyrim PS3.
Also in this way I'll play the game directly on Neo which is probably how it should be played considering the current PS4 and XB1 don't make a lot of justice to the assets and technologies behind it.

Only Square fucking Enix would have a huge event to announce a release date they can't keep. What the hell happened to this company?

Not sure if this is a deal breaker for me or not. This is my least hyped main series FF game ever, and I've had a bad taste in my mouth since I found out it was simply versus XIII delayed.

To be fair, SE has never delayed a Final Fantasy title after announcing a firm date. This would be a first for them.

Seems weird to release that World of Wonder trailer yesterday with the Sept 30 date if they've already decided to delay.

Trailer was probably finalized before that plus if in theory they're announcing the delay at Gamescom next week then they likely didn't want to say anything until such time?

Yes, but they also have never done a "Lebron" type release date announcement to a worldwide audience for one of their games. They made a gigantic deal about this game coming out Sept 30th... that they were not confident in it, and now are delaying it looks ridiculously bad for their PR.

I only have two statements about the delay:

1) I'm not surprised. The pressure must be HUGE to get this game right after the mediocre FFXIII effort. They should release it when it's good and done and not a minute before. FFXV needs to be fantastic.

Actually, that's all I have to say. 1 statement covered it. =)

I have a bad feeling it's gonna suck no matter how long they take. SE just aint the company they once were. I dearly hope I'm wrong because I want to love this game, but another thing that didn't sit well with me was the "season pass"..... in a FF game..... to me, that is a big fuck you to people waiting a decade for this game. Give us all the content as apology for running your business so poorly. I know I'm coming off as entitled, but I just can't stand what this company has become.

Also, if a delay was happening, they should have announced it weeks before Gamescom and then used the event for damage control.

Rock and a hard place. It'd arguably be even worse if the game came out on September 30th and was unpolished.

In the long term the release date announcement will be something we can laugh at sheepishly, but if a game needs more time, the only benefit of ignoring that is being able to say they met a promise. Even when that wouldn't have really been best.

Announceing the delay together with this video and the new music would have been a much better decision tbh. Announcing it at gamescom will taint their showing with the negative reaction of the delay, which could have been avoided with announcing it yesterday so people have time to get over it.
And yes, Monday is before gamescom, but I think it's always better to have something to accompany a delay announcement as distraction.

Oh I agree, they cannot afford to release an unfinished game- I won't argue with that. But the fact that they couldn't accomplish this task in 10+ years speaks volumes to what we should expect.

This delay is fucking ridiculous. Im sorry but were so close and they push it back another two months? they shouldnt have hyped up their release date announcment if they couldnt stick to it. I gave no mans sky the same shit.

Now that I've processed it, I can now speak clearly.

I gotta think, there must be something seriously wrong, isn't this about the time the game would getting submitted for publishing? Seems very last minute to me...

That generally happens about a month from release. This basically gives them 1 extra month to do whatever it is that needs doing.

Umm, have you paid attention to the industry in the last 3 or 4 years? Almost every game gets at least a small delay.

Witcher 3, Arkham Knight, Persona 5, Zelda were all delayed MULTIPLE times. Persona 5 missed its original dates by a couple of YEARS,and you know what? Im glad they did, that game looks amazing and im glad that they care enough about it to spend all the extra time on it.

Square Enix is only delaying it 2 months, and there's an extra platform being added to the game in that time span (neo). You guys are making way to big of a deal out of this.
