GTA6 Physical Release May Be Delayed To Avoid Leaks - Rumor

Well then I guess I will be buying it when it releases physically. Been waiting over 10 years, what the fuck's an extra few days, weeks, months.

But you know that's not why they're doing it, they're doing it so people double dip, scumbag move.

Why would people double dip on physical? It's a 10 year game. There's logic in buying it physically and then selling it when done but only if you play it solo. But if you intend to do that, double dipping makes no sense.

I played GTA V on my PS3 on the 13th of September, 4 days before official launch via a now gone Glasgow shop that sold console games early under the counter.

The iso was actually released on the 13th but an eboot patch scene release didnt appear until the next day so most outside forum dwellers (where people would post eboot patches earlier than scene releases) wouldn't have played it until then:

(Thats just a scene release database, it contains no copyrighted material)

I hope theres a physical release not so I can play it early this time (no one is around who'll break street dates any more anyway) but so I can not have to pay fucking £70+.

Curry's usually do the physical of PS5 games for just over £60 and then I get 10-20% off that so it ends up being £49-55.

Are some people really saying it makes sense? Lol.

It would a super scummy way of convincing people hyped for GTA6 to buy a version that can't be resold, no sane person would believe in some bullshit reasoning about spoilers.

There's no way in hell R* is going to miss out or delay selling the exorbitant $200~$300 collector's editions and/or console bundles.
Official console bundles will have a digital code anyway. The days of a boxed copy packed in are over. Collector's editions can be late and people will complain, but they'll wait.

If that is true that is a terrible idea because the midnight store release for this game would be amazing.

Seeing stacks of GTA 6 copies in physical stores is an excellent way to increase the hype. A digital only release doesn't add to the spectacle.

This would save them a bunch of money.

Nope, it will bring in additional revenues. It's not just about the costs of printing these discs, but a publisher will make less money on a physical release, because the retailer, distributors, disc manufacturer and finally the platform holder will want their cut of the retail price. A digital release means the publisher gets a bigger part of each sale.

Take-Two and Rockstar may hold back the release of the physical version of Grand Theft Auto 6 to avoid spoilers.

That's according to Polish site PPE.pl, whose insider Graczdari previously correctly leaked information on the release date of Oblivion: Remastered physical copies, the Switch 2 port of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and the PS5 port of Microsoft Flight Simulator.

According to Graczdari – who PPE.pl says handles physical game sales in Europe – Take-Two still has no plans for a physical edition of the game, at least at release.

While it appears inevitable that the game will get a physical release, the report claims that it may appear on consoles digitally first, with a physical version following later. This could only be a few weeks after release, or as far back as 2027.

"We're hearing more and more that the physical version won't be released simultaneously with the digital version to prevent leaks," their source claims.

"We're getting conflicting reports – some say the physical version will arrive three to four weeks after the digital release, while others say it won't happen until early 2027. More information will be available in mid-February."

Grand Theft Auto 6 has already been subject to numerous leaks in recent years. In September 2022, one of the games industry's most high-profile data leaks saw over an hour of GTA 6 development footage published online , giving players their first look at the sequel to one of the best-selling games of all time.

Then, in December 2023, the game's first trailer was leaked a day early by an anonymous X user, albeit a low-res and heavily watermarked version.

Before that, back in 2021, over an hour of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition footage leaked online ahead of the game's release.

With this in mind, Rockstar and Take-Two will be keen to avoid further leaks and spoilers for Grand Theft Auto 6 before the game's officially out.

Given that there have been numerous instances of players acquiring physical copies of games early – often through retailers who receive shipments before release – and streaming them online, this could justify the claim that Take-Two may be delaying the physical release of GTA 6 to avoid spoilers.

Grand Theft Auto 6's current release date is November 19, 2026, following two high-profile delays. The game was originally planned to release in Fall 2025, but this was then pushed back to May 26, 2026, before Rockstar then announced the new November date.

BS. It's up to the gamer to not watch the leaks, same for those who will wait for the physical version. The real reason is the double dipping.

And to think people believe the single-player gets early access 😂
I can see that happening because there is money involved with both. Expensive deluxe edition gets early access. Disc version gets delayed to prevent those campaign players flooding the market with second hand versions thus keeping sales momentum for longer.

I thought part of the joy of getting a physical copy early was so you can be the first to leak all of the story beats. Not like it matters. The moment that the digital version will be in everyone's hands, it will be leaked all over youtube, social media and TikTok. This is the highest profile release of the current generation of game consoles.

I could believe this rumor as it makes perfect sense to me. It's the most expensive game ever and they could lose a lot of money if discs get stolen before release.

Besides this could allow them to patch the game a bit before releasing it physically.

None of this is true and no a retailer wouldnt know 8 months ahead of time

What a bunch of absolute nonsense, nobody with a brain should believe this

Which is why on Reee they all believe it

I have had very little interest in the GTA franchise, but Red Dead Redemption 2 pulled me in to Rockstar's sphere of influence. So now I've unfortunately been excited for GTA 6. Buncha bastards!

i don't buy physical games anymore. guess you'll just need to buy digitally then if you want to play it at launch and not have it spoiled.

There's an equivalent "key disc" for PS5 and XSX physical releases, so they could do the same thing Ubisoft did with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Anyway, I don't buy this rumor.

This was gonna be the first game in a while that i would buy at launch but now this bullshit about no physical? Guess I'll wait then. How reliable is this guy who is saying this?

Didn't Jedi Survivor contain only the prologue on the disc?

So they could do a key disc or something similar which would save them a bunch of time, and just make the patch unavailable until Day 1.

I don't like spoilers, but delaying the physical release of GTA 6 sounds like trolling. Sure, a digital launch might protect narratives… but it still feels like a way to boost digital sales and make people pay more.

First charge $100.

Then maximise margins by only releasing it digitally.

Then a year later release a physical edition causing the fanboys to double dip before they triple dip, quadrauple dip and quintuple dip over the years ahead for the various ports and enhanced editions.

Meanwhile lace GTA6 online with microtransactions and charge a subscription fee.
