This GIF really points out how stylized some of the original character designs are. In other threads people said they removed the "asian-ness" from the characters. But it's definitely they removed the "anime" from them. It makes sense if they wanted the characters to look more real. And I prefer the realistic aesthetic.
It's definitely mostly the hair. Lighting has the longer parts of her hair in the same position. And because the image is small with perfect anime stylized faces, hair is one of the most distinctive features.

I'm so confused.
Killing the entire Versus XIII scenario and Stella was apparently not enough.
I think it's okay cause he looks changed, but other than that it's pretty much your typical western looking character. Looks like someone who would fit right into Red Dead Redemption or The Last of Us. Say what you will about Young Noct but at least he's unique in the scope of video games. Not many Jpop/anime looking characters out there.

There might be some story reason for his drastic transformation. i.e. the magic takes its toll on the user, causing extreme aging or changing of features. But then again, something big seems to have happened in the story.

Unless the first scene of the game is a massive troll, the guy standing next to Regis in his render is old Noctis.
It could be that old Noct looks very similar to young Regis (in the game, not the movie).

I mean if they're ok with showing it in today's footage and then releasing a HQ model of it months before the game's release, then I think it might not be a spoiler. Like the game wants you to know Noct is gonna get old.

SE is the last one I would trust to not spoil a game. They spoil a lot of each FF. I think showing these old versions was simply not necessary.
They wouldn't release a CG render then. And as we all know, they would never change something they already revealed. Never.

But the entire cast didn't retain the stylized look to the same degree as Noct. One of the major ones was Prompto's design. They likely didn't change up Noctis's design too much for the recognition of the original design. But I personally think the Older Noct design isn't that much of a stretch.
What do you mean? Regis's young model is noticeably different than the model in the pics. The footage today wasn't a demo. It's what the game would've been like on release so everything was set in stone. So I doubt they wouldn't have replaced the model by now. To me it looks like Noct is wearing Regis's clothes for another reason.
