Resident Evil 7 biohazard - "Lantern" Gameplay Trailer

Take out horror and your describing 70% of games released in the last 30 years, listing game mechanics that is common amongst games and saying that Resident Evil isn't validation of The demo being the same.
Just playing Resident Evil 1, Remake, 2, or 3 , Resident Evil is more than the sum of it's parts, it has an uniqueness to it and that's not present at all in the demo or this trailer.
Even Resident Evil 4,5,6 has their own uniqueness to them.

I also don't think the demo is fully representative. They've said as much. But there are hints of those elements there. I'm still withholding judgment because I haven't played the full game, but again I did get more of what I PREFER about RE than the action driven ones. It's also that feeling of isolation and mystery before you know what's going on.

However I'm treating this new trailer and the demos like the teasers they are. But I see the potential.

It's so weird to me that this is going to be a mainline ResiEvil entry. If it was a spin-off then fair enough, but nothing about that footage resembles the series' conventions to me. It just looks like another one of those first-person horrors made by an indie studio that are all the rage right now. More Outlast than Resident Evil.

As a side thought, this game will probably end up having a tenth of 6's budget lol.

My ideal "back to roots" RE is something like

- RE4 with 50-80% less shootbang
- third person view
- overly beautiful western person as set of character with cheesy made up western name
- cheesy ass story
- did I mention cheese? Bring out all the fucking cheese.

Bam its a Resident Evil.

Not like whatever the hell this is.

RE is not just about "scary" its more than that.

They really need to take a step back with all those screen effects.. Like 20% off the image is covered up by the vignette and then you have some weird scanline effect and a bunch of chromatic aberration on top of that.

I am torned. Looks great but thinking that this will be my RE "cup" for the next few years leave ne sad.

I am gonna replay RE remake lol

Oh I'm sorry which major entry in the RE series looks like anything shown here at all?

Or any survival horror game that actually let's you kill enemies, manage health items, etc.?

Legitimately this game so far could be some totally different IP and not once would I think "oh this makes me think of Resident Evil!"

I thought "this looks just like an old school resident evil" multiple times when watching the Resident Evil 7 debut trailer live before it was revealed that it was in fact, resident evil 7.

Music and sound design is very important to me, so that was honestly one of the most striking things that was completely different in RE4. The only modern RE with the old atmosphere is Revelations 2, which was amazing.

Well, I guess we're just going to completely disagree on the subject then. Despite the gameplay alterations (it being more arcade like, but enemies were adjusted to compensate), there were still puzzles (which never actually made much sense in any of the games to be honest, it was just a gameplay contrivance), and so many interior areas screamed Resident Evil, and a lot of the outside areas were very similar to what was in REmake and RE Zero.

RE is all about opening doors in first person view, man.
Yet they was gonna remove them all together in REmake.
Anyway whats First person gotta do with it? Even in 3rd person this ain't Resident Evil.

First line of OP:
While Beginning Hour acts as a setup for the main game, this time you’ll see a found footage videotape segment that will appear in the final game. (Your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you, the videotape graphical effects are distinct to these segments and aren’t representative of the rest of the game.)

I think people really don't know what Walking Simulator means at this point and just try to use that to describe games where there isn't combat (which RE7 actually does have, both gunplay and melee combat).

The game looks really good actually. But come on it is really clear that the game is riding on P.T. hype and the marketing team definitely took some notes from that.

I mean really, the game is marketed via an obscure teaser that has no guidelines and no clear way to beat it, the enemy pops behind you seemingly out of the blue, and this!
Code:

The game might be radically different but from as far as marketing goes, there's no mistaking it RE7 marketing is heavily inspired by P.T.

It's because it is simulating you watching a VHS tape.

That was a whole lot of nothing. Like how they basically show amnesia style gameplay after making a big deal that's not what it'll be like. Still looking forward to the game, but atm it's lore wise and not what I have seen from gameplay.

I see potential too for new IP, but people saying "back to roots" "original RE vibe" is started to sound like someone obsessing that someone like them when they don't.

The trailer is actually done in the RE4 era style, not sure where you get the old style from.

I'm perfectly fine with Capcom using PT for inspiration. If Konami's not doing anything with it (or at least anything good) then let them.

Also I just want to get it out there, this may not be what we know from Resident Evil but at least it is survival horror. The inventory management, puzzles and (what seems to be) panicky combat are all there and that's more then what I hoped for.

I'm getting that feeling but to each his own. It's not really worth arguing about especially with a lack of information but on basic levels it's giving me remake/original RE vibes.

In my veins, most anticipated game currently. Big budget horror games aping Amnesia is one of my favourite things to happen.

Old school fans, you're still geting the RE2make. Over the shoulder fans, you got ports of 456, and Evil Within and Rev series. Let this FPS new wave also be a thing that happens.

Revelations is probably done, a new action series is pribwbly hopefully being made. Also we really count ports and another franchise. If I have to go to TEW for action just end it now.

I would be a lot more accepting of this new direction for Resident Evil if first-person avoid-y horror games wasn't already such an overcrowded market. The genre isn't very flexible and has already been completely played out, in my opinion.

That was pretty bad. Is this like direct game footage from the PS VR version? I looks worse than the demo. Not a fan of that interlacing filter on the screen. Technical stuff aside, It just didn't look spooky to me. Outlast manages to do a better job at the whole hide and seek aspect that they showed off here. Idk, it just seems to me like they are playing catch up to all of the other survival first person games that have come out in past few years.

good thing we have no idea if this is an " avoid-y horror games" I mean we already know there is weapons in the game

So hyped for this game.

Looking good.

Resigned Evil original vibe.

definitely!

the demo was great and i honestly think this is the best thing to happen to resident evil since REmake. VR is only going to make it scarier.

one of my most anticipated releases next year, and i never thought i'd have said that after the travesty of RE4(a little less so)/5/6

I absolutely don't understand how people are seeing RE out of this. I was hoping to get some reassurance out of Gamescom that this game was going to be something other than something trying to cash in on the hide and seek fad, instead I got the opposite. Until I see hard evidence that there's actual survival horror gameplay, and not random forum people telling me there is, I'm going to just keep going on being disappointed.

I mean this gameplay clearly shows you'll be hiding around at least one instance in the game. Which might already be more than some were wanting. Right now they haven't showed anything that really stands out from other games in this genre. That is what people are worried about.

It's been real evident that with RE7 capcom is going for people like you who didn't like 4-6 and fans like myself who will just play anything. Though I personally enjoy the action side of things more. Still odd to me they gave up on trying to find that middle ground. Since that is what revelations was trying to do.

Just don't really the color palette in this trailer. Hope there's something more. Like every scene is brown/orange except when she goes outside and it's gray.

Really not interested in this at all.

Might be the first 'Resident evil' game I don't buy at this rate.

(which RE7 actually does have, both gunplay and melee combat).

This feels like a RE version of that famous Simpsons scene:

"Ok it's got a little first person view
But the there are still guns, there are still guns!"

"Ok it's a bit horrory but the there's still melee, there's still melee!"

"This is terrible. Bring back the horror, Capcom!"

*Capcom brings back the horror*

"This is terrible. Bring back shooting and third person!"

That's not really the problem.

The problem is that it looks like a 'me, too' kinda game, riding the coattails of Amnesia and P.T. and not really like a Resident Evil game.
