FFXV Character Models Released

Those dresses you posted are kind of ugly, though... The ones in FFXV are definitely better.
Definitely not a compelling argument on your part..his post was full of great visual examples to go with the argument he was making.

The hilarious thing about Old Noctis for me personally is that he's an exact recreation of how my edgy 16 year old self wanted to look like in my mid 20s.

What great visual examples? The dresses are ugly. They are not objectively good in any way.

I guess Ishida took his L and went home.

I wish. Stuck at work for 1 more hour.

So you have no argument, and try to express your opinion as "objective". Well, "you are perfectly entitled to your opinion."

Doesn't mean you have a sense for good female character design. Or even a fashion sense.

I'm a bit unsure on the Luna design, perhaps it will make sense in the context of the game when we know her better. I'm trying not to read everything so i'm sure there is character info i've missed.

Looking at the Luna dress, i'd say they were making a statement about Luna by not making a statement with her clothes (if that makes sense). It shows that she doesn't feel the need to adorn herself elaborately, perhaps that's a sign of inner confidence? Or that she has no time for that type of thing?

In terms of Final Fantasy, it's quite an interesting choice, because of it's simplicity, we don't see that too often. That said, if she rocked up dressed like Sorceress Edea i'd be all for it.

Edea's modern dress with a chocobo helmet was one of the most clever designs in the series.

Yep, I mean just look at that... I love it. It has a similar silhouette to Luna, but is visually arresting.

You ask for examples, but have no refutation of my statements? At least describe what makes those Gentiana or Luna designs 'great' in your opinion? What is there that makes those good character designs? "Great and elegant" describes a lot of dresses and outfits—so what is visually interesting, distinct or even fashionable about Gentiana or Luna?

Fan Bingbing, Marchesa: a princess-like style and dress, but using a theme of nature, it is much more visually pleasing and arresting than Luna.

Again Fan Bingbing, this time Ralph & Russo: pink dress with green blossoms and birds, works well with her skin tone and has the feeling of 'wings' from the sleeve design. Much prettier than bland white dress, yet can also convey the exact same "elegance".

When I speak of costume that says something about 'character', it is when what the character wears reflects the character's purpose, personality, and the image the character is trying to put forth. The lady who crashes your boardroom meeting dressed like this is not just going to bow out.

One look at this dress, the character who would wear this kind of dress is apparent immediately: femme fatale.

With Gentiana standing there in her character render, what does her visual design say about her? That's right: absolutely nothing.

FF15 costume/character design has been incredibly bad considering how many styles exist in a contemporary time for the character/costume designers to draw from. Repeating constantly, "I don't know what you guys are talking about, everything is great" is just a state of enclosing yourself in a bubble.
The first two are something you'd only wear on a red carpet, the third looks like a cheap Kyabajou, the fourth is cool but would fit SMT more than Final Fantasy.

I think the Luna dress looks nice. Its simple, sophistacated, no-nonsense and modern.
The other one looks too much like a sexy ninja cosplay for my tastes, but maybe that fits the character...

The problem is that Noctis' nose appears to have grown over twice it's size in a decade. It's disproportion is what makes him look different. The terrible beard, etc are just icing on the cake.

On a more serious note, the difference could be from angle and posing. Young Noctis stand up straight and looking straight forward. While Old one have his head down a bit to get that glowering up look, his shoulder stiff.
The more I stare the more I think Old Noctis look weird.

The problem that I have with Noctis' character model is his eyes. They're just too cat-like; it's almost like they were attempting to give him the same cat-eyes that Geralt has, but the effect is that it makes him look almost sinister during regular gameplay.

This trait is rather common in a lot of the newer FF designs, particularly those by Nomura. Especially in the Dissidia games, where there are like 3 face variations between the entire roster.

Which is why I appreciate the design approach of Kingsglaive.

I wonder if it's purely Nomura or if it's the direction that their modelling director is going with? I mean, looking at Noel's model and artwork from FFXIII-2, he still has the same "Nomura style" when it comes to his artwork, but the model's eyes have a great, expressive openness to them.

I'm happy to accept the explanation/reason that Noct looks like that because 'he's tired' or the situation around his existence is pretty dire, but... I don't know. Hopefully he grows on me, I guess.
