I get the feeling there will be more people expecting people to get mad than actual people that are mad

We are now at the point where people get outraged before there is anything to be outraged about.

That said, MJ is basically now a minor character in Spider-Man, they have been One More Dayed for a very long time.

They already had a Peter Parker loved one die so he learns that great power must also come great responsibility, and the personal sacrifices that come with being Spider-Man.

It had happen in Amazing Fantasy #15 (August 1962).
That's the point. Gwen Stacy was supposed to show that shit still happens, no matter how good you are, and especially, that you can lose more than one person. It made Peter reluctant to start a relationship, and after all he did and got married and stuff was because he, has a character, grew confident enough to accept the past and look forward. It's actually one of my favorite development in comics, but Disney don't care and it seems that neither do you. Whatever, I'm in for High School Musical with powers anyways.

lmao what are you people on about her hair for. it's hair, it does not matter. it's never mattered.
Because it's a defining trait of the character? At this point they don't even need to use MJ. They could have made a new character.

If you were to ask a comic book fan to detail MJ the list would probably go:

- Parkers love interest
- Red hair
- Model

They really should make her dye her hair. Red hair is MJ's defining physical trait.

And like I said black women can look great with red hair. Rihanna looks dope when she goes red

Sam Raimi didn't care either.

And Ultimate Spider-Man did it just fine.
Gwen wasn't even around for like 20 issues.

I don't know man, seeing superman run around with blonde hair and brown eyes just wouldn't be the same. MJ's has always been iconically red, it's pretty much synonymous with the character (until now I guess?). Hoping we get red hair dye at some point, maybe a second film.

Shocking, but I'm fine with it. I just didn't think they'd go this route for Mary Jane. Having red hair is like the sole notable trait she has

Maybe she'll dye it at some point in the movie. That'd be a fun callback.

I don't know who this is but whatever, MJ's back and that's what counts. I would love if they rehired Emma Stone as an older alternate-universe Spider-Gwen that would be a mentor to Pete (0 chance this happens though).

that's cool an all for that particular thread of spider-man stories. there is absolutely no reason why these movies have to be super faithful to them. it's possible to tell new stories.

hell MJ could be a villain, or they could kill MJ, or maybe Peter Parker in fact likes guys in these movies. it literally doesn't matter as long as they tell a good compelling story

Hair colour means nothing. It wouldn't make a blind bit of difference to the character.

I don't mind the race change, they can do whatever they want with their property. But did anyone else notice it's always the red headed characters?

The West family in The Flash. Jimmy Olsen in Supergirl. And now Mary Jane. Who will be next?

They did turn Matt Murdoch into a brunette, does that count?

Did they reboot Jean Grey yet?

I'll wait for a more official word before I take this as fact. But I'm totally fine with casting Zendaya as MJ. And with skipping over Gwen, considering we literally just had two pretty terrible movies about Gwen dying.

This girl is Mary Jane. She's stunningly beautiful. I think it would be fucking doooooope if they did a red ombré with her hair.

Exactly. A key characteristic of the Mary Jane character is that she is way out of Peter's league. Like from a different planet level of beauty compared to Peter. This seems like great casting to me.

I never said they shouldn't have hired a black girl. I just said they should make her dye her hair red.

.....I never said you did? I'm agreeing with you. I just like the red haired MJ, as someone else said in the thread it would be weird seeing Superman or Batman with blonde hair. Its just basically always black / dark

If hair is the most important part of a character that's pretty sad.

It's protein! Thats not a defining trait of anything!
Well that's not true at all. You could explain away anyones physical traits that way. That doesn't mean people aren't defined by physical characteristics.

They can ditch the red hair. Zendaya is someone I could actually believe becoming a model in NYC.

I disagree completely, some characters are iconic or instantly recognizable based on their hair color. Sure, it's not a defining characteristic for all characters, but for some, definitely so. I'd put MJ/Clark Kent in that category (in my personal opinion). Not the most important characteristic or the sole defining, but still an integral part of some characters and their appearance.

Hair colour does not mean shit to who a person is, how they act, their behaviour, their mentality. Nothing.

Read up. A blond superman is still superman.

Oh, my bad.

Yeah, I think this Zendaya girl would look good with red hair too. I don't know anything about her acting skills though.

And if we lived in a world where people were only recoginzed by their behavior, you might have a point here. Character design is, has been, and always will be an important part of developing a character.
