Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

What makes people think for a second that they couldn't tweak the mechanics to play almost EXACTLY like TF1 if they received enough feedback to that effect? Can't save a few of the maps from being too wide open but other than that I don't see anything being off the table for Respawn.

Time if they are hell bent on this release window.

..and EA.

Truthfully, with all the big shooter hitting in the fall, they are better off with a Feb release at this point.

I don't think anyone would be surprised or particularly disappointed with a delay given the shooter release schedule this fall. It's a rough date for the game, no matter what state it will be in at the time.

Was going to link that. Although way too late to implement a lot of drastic changes before launch I'm wondering what they'll do with the feedback going forward. Some of the changes people would want would be pretty drastic.
Not really. Increase movement gains, lower the Titan cost, increase ttk, and bring back Attrition would address most of the complaints and are not really that hard to change.

The maps, rodeo, and Titan customization obviously can't be changed at this point in time but I think the above changes would make people happy enough to look past these.

Well damn for those that loved the first it seems.

Im having lots of fun myself and I dont get how this can get compared to CoD, maybe because iis a FPS with wallruns and sliding but its immediate to me how different they feel, I play BO3 and this one after another and to me TF2 feels better, even in the gunplay deparment, feels more visceral for lack of a better term, also being able to get a Titan changes the dynamic completly here, feels downright amazing IMO.

Looks lovely, performance is good, I cant wait how polished will be come launch, good job Respawn.

I'm having fun with it. I love the grappling hook mechanic, I don't understand the comparison to this game being less traversal than T1, with the grappling hook you can go anywhere.

Just did a Titan vs Titan battle, had to eject and on my way down I grappled onto a teammate titan firing from the shoulder killed my opponent. Then stayed on like a parrot to take out pilots and help with titans until my titan was ready again.

I need to see the other modes but I really don't think this game is the flaming wreck that is being protrayed.

I loved T1, but also the population took a nosedive very quickly so I remove my rosetinted glasses to recognize that they are probably trying to make changes to increase the appeal

It's funny how many players treat bounty hunt like TDM only trying to rack up their K/D and end up losing despite having a ton of kills.

If they are going to screw around with the maps to make it hard to wall run across the map, then the grapple hook should be standard part of the kit and not a tactical skill.

If they are going to have the grapple hook be a perk, then the maps should be conducive for wall running.

I can deal with the game being slower, but I really don't like the mobility being dumbed down for casuals.

Titans. Bring back customization load outs to the Titans. You can still have scorch and ion, and what have you based on the core capability, but I want to choose my load outs.

It's the how much time you spend running on the ground, especially on the bigger map and increase snipers and camping is why this feels more like CoD than Titanfall to me.

Grappling hook definitely needs to be in the base skillset. Also needs to be faster but I saw Rayme stated they worked on it for over a year to get it right so I don't see that happening.

i'm having a blast with it. the current meta is actually great with pilot vs pilot.

That pretty much my main concern. Seems like the 'titan' part of titanfall was an afterthought. The titans used to be a major part of the meta in tf1 (which youd think would be the case with the name 'titan' in the games name) in conjuction with burn cards (if you had a full team and co ordianted you titanfalls/burn cards, you could roll the world), not saying the system was perfect how it was, i was just hoping they would fin a better way to blend titan vs pilot combat rather then just segregate the two.

They actually don't even need to adjust TTK. They just need to replenish health faster, replenish stim and your abilitis faster and not make you glow BRIGHT RED.

I'm destroyign people, even if they get the first shot in. THe mobility and gunplay is still there for you to outgun people.

In a game where you die in maybe half a second to direct fire, what is your strategy to outplay someone? Jumping around with the jump jet while shooting? Not being snarky, genuinely curious.

If it's there, it doesn't seem particularly engaging. Maybe I'm just spoiled from Overwatch where you're given legitimate time to react to gunfire and play it out in a great majority of situations.

I played the original game on both PC and XBO and got nearly to Gen 10 (last level before regen in Gen 9) fairly quickly on PC. I loved Titanfall a bunch, but its lack of content really brought it down - this was especially noticeable with how the community died within weeks of release. I played then beta the other day, when it was technically still "early access," and quickly noticed how different this game is. It's slower, the maps aren't the best, the Titans are ridiculously underpowered, and there's a multitude of other issues. I was working on a long post bitching about how much worse than the first game this is but after spending a few hours on it yesterday, I've decided it really isn't that bad. There's actually some really good changes (like the improved hipfire accuracy).

I like Titanfall 2., it's pretty fun when you get into it. But first and foremost they really need to stop promoting camping. Amped Hardpoint is absolutely horrible for this and there's too many areas on these maps that I've caught people just sitting in for large portions of the game. Respawn also needs to bring back Titan shields, non-locked Titan weapons, Titan timers, and I'd say most importantly - the AI. The first game managed to capture a warzone feel that just isn't present in this game. I'm not sure if I want this or BF1.

#bumperjumper for life

EDIT: OH AND NUCLEAR EJECT. I HOPE THAT MAKES IT INTO THE FULL GAME!!!

It's funny how many players treat bounty hunt like TDM only trying to rack up their K/D and end up losing despite having a ton of kills.

Lol yeah, I'm just clearing bot zones and reaping cash when most players seem to be in their own worlds killing each other in the centre.

Try playing bumper jumper, jumping while being able to shoot leads to alot of outplays

well, yes but that was also the most viable way to outgun someone in Titanfall 1 as well, that and popping stim at the right time. If they up the replenishment time for stim you'll be able to outplay anyone lesser than you in almost every situation regardless if they shoot you first.

The gunplay is excellent and they've actually improved on the aiming. You're more accurate in the air now. Add the fact that you can remove wallhang which allows you to bounce around while ADSing and you're abilities sky rocket.

Are you on xbox? you can join me if you want. maybe you'll get to see someone actually fast in this game

The sniper rifle is so damn easy to use, little to no sway, super accurate and deadly, it's easy mode sniping, which this game didn't need.

Combat just feels so slow and feels like typical shooter fair, I don't remember sitting around so much and using ads in Titanfall, here it's like you are forced too with all the open space and slowness. The TTK is so short, that just playing around jumping and wall running makes you an easy target

If the maps in the beta are of similar design principle to the other maps in the game, we are 100% boned.

No amount of value tweaking is going to fix it.

So Bounty Hunter isn't great. Would rather classic attrition. I really like the game though, same as I did the first. I wasn't a hardcore player though all things considered.

Pro tips for ppl new to TF switch your controls to bumper jumper or bumper jumper pilot, and turn always sprint to on (it is off by default), if you haven't already.
Having auto sprint off is one of the strangest gameplay decisions I've seen in a while.

Whats the benefit of having auto sprint on? Is it just when you move the stick forward it automatically sprints?

no. they just need better maps than the two they're showing and some tweaks.

They need to make the Titans a lot less shit as well, my favourite part of Titanfall feels like a complete afterthought. The Titans don't even feel as good as Titanfall 1's to play as.

The feedback here is harsh, but I agree with a lot of it.

Too many unnecessary changes. Updating the graphics and adding a story mode is all this sequel really needed. TF1's gameplay was and is sublime.

My first impressions with this pre-alpha:
  • Visuals look fantastic
  • Movement seems slower
  • Maps reduce wallrunning and verticality
  • Feels a lot more like CoD with (some) mechs
  • Abilities tied to classes feels restrictive
  • Ironically, as a result of the bullet above, the game feels even less accessible to me

And the sum of all this is that it feels less fun.

I bought and played Titanfall for dozens of hours on PC and hundreds of hours on Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and I have been eagerly awaiting TF2. But the Gaffers here are right, the essence of this game is different. Somehow it has moved away from the things that made Titanfall what it was. It almost feels like an attempt to come a half step back to Call of Duty.

I've got the game pre-ordered, but I feel a little wary and apprehensive now rather than the excitement I expected.

My most disappointing thing about TF2 are the sound effects. I thought TF1 had a unique sound and this new game is a huuuuuge step backwards.

It just seems so sterile now.

I just played a chunk more games today, and I've landed at this being a good game. But not a particularly fun one, if that is possible. And then I finally loaded up Titanfall 1 on PC, and plugged in a controller to get that same-y feel with how I'm playing Titanfall 2. A lot of the elements that I feel make this a less fun experience can easily be tweaked or added. And hell---they might already be there, just not in this build. My major complaints revolve around Titans. They aren't fun.

Titans being called down just warp in close to the surface. In Titanfall 1, you can look up and see them rocket down. You even see the carrier's disengage to release the Titan before it lands. And that sound effect as it roars down is amazing. To top it off, the impact hitting the ground is badass. Titanfall 2 lacks all of that. I feel no excitement calling in this goliath of a killing machine. I wish I could find a good youtube video to show it all off...

I like Titanfall 2. I'll pray the Respawn gods hear us and make some tweaks though. Ever since I played Titanfall 1, I looked forward to seeing what a sequel would do. How it would expand and evolve. I nearly shit myself when part 2 was officially announced, and I upgraded my graphics card just for it. I'll buy the game either way at this point. Here's to hoping.

The first one played like COD, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

No it didnt. That was my first impression I admit, but the speed and flow of TF1 when someone fully integrates the movement system into their play is like nothing else out there. I'm saying this as someone who ain't even good at the game. The movement allowed the large map sizes to feel smaller and tighter because of the speed you could pick up chaining those wall runs.

Not even remotely.

There is no way you could play effectively playing it like CoD.

im guessing what he's saying is tf is pretty much the next logical step in cod already. This team already hinted at that in MW2 with vertical maps like quarry and favela

the fact it double downs on that cod-ness isn't too much of a surprise at this point

like i said let's start with the higher Ttk and better gradual titan meter first

Someone mentioned it earlier in the thread, but a lot of the Titanfall magic that is lost could be related to the fact that they are no longer compensating for the lack of a single-player. A lot is most in the presentation on the game.
