Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

Didn't get an answer earlier but was the TTK adjusted with the server update? It feels a bit longer now, giving more time to maneuver and react. Maybe I'm just getting better at the game but it certainly feels different than when I played yesterday.

Aside from all this MP tech test talking what i'm thinking is in terms of budget and overal product size i'm wondering can Respawn ever again deliver something like this in the future.

They worked with Hans Zimmer, all the trailers was top notch,i never saw that type of hype again after that.My point is i don't know how's company doing financially but i think they still not in the same league once the original Inifinty Ward in.

I like the changes that they made for TF2 i'm liking this one more then the first i can't hide that.I want this company to have more resources, man power, technology (heavily modified Source 1 in 2016 oh c'mon.) etc like they used to have. They still have the magic but if they trully want to kill the CoD or create something as big as that it's a wrong thing to do it over Titanfall brand.

Saw this on Reddit: A sub 30 second run on the Training.

JESUS. I bled for 37.40... but then again I didn't know you could use grenades.. I feel like I could get down to the low 30s with that and the starting on the wall through the start gate.

Agree.

Why would they put their worst 2 maps in a beta/alpha/tech test whatever they want to call it? They'll be wanting to make a good impression and put in maps they think are good (Angel City from TF1, Combine from BO3, etc..). With a beta you usually get the best of the best.

Maybe you're right & I hope you are that the other maps are better but I'm expecting the worst sadly.. At least that way I won't be disappointed, i've had enough disappointment to last a life time already :(
I also thought about this, but then thought if they wanted to appeal to the masses, these might be the best maps to pick oddly enough. I guess I'm hoping for a bait and switch... :/

I don't have nearly as many complaints as others, though. Just that the movement isn't getting to breathe. That and some multiplayer music back wouldn't hurt, and I liked the AI video window. But then again... all that stuff was to supplement the lack of single player, which we are now getting. I do miss the presentation a bit.

The scale of TF1 was due to them pitching the MP as a SP experience, so I can't totally blame them for removing a lot of these elements. The budget would be way too high probably along with SP.

That whole argument about good and bad players is silly. I can suck at a game and still have fun and I can also be disappointed about a game I'm good at.

Are we really going to pretend a game can't capture you right from the beginning?

Excellent, seeing the times on the leaderboard got me wondering how that fast was possible.

Gamesager got 29.00 in the run. He found a secret weapon that is basically a plasma rocket launcher and kills all the enemies in like a 20 foot radius.

343 developed the Halo game with the best gameplay in the series though...

Bull. fucking. shit. Halo 5 isn't as terrible as folks make it out to be, but this isn't flying.

That aside, I'm trying the test a bit more and it just has me down. The Titans just don't feel anywhere near as cool. I miss the first person enter, the original animations, hell, even the "60 secs until titanfall voice". I'm in my Titan shooting a gun I didn't pick or would pick if I had the choice, with folks all hopping on me the whole time. I used to pick a Titan and get multiple Titan and pilot kills because I outplayed the other pilots. Losing your Titan here is a matter of when rather than if.

Never played Titan Fall 1, It's basically CODBLOPS3 but actually good and the Titans are killstreaks, weapons feel good too like IW & SH COD's, not all over the place with no weight and inaccuracy like Treyarch games.
I might even buy it, does this have split screen online like COD?

Well they're working on a Star Wars game so probably.

This shouldn't be the case and with the update to amped hardpoint it is better than it was yesterday.

Because it was better in TF1. Map design doesn't help, but the quick TTK punishes players from getting out there and using the games movement systems, as you are just a big target to long range shooters who pick you off super quick in this. So players move slower, take cover more, play cautious, essentially not playing like Titanfall at all.

I dunno. I was playing TF1 in preparation for this all week, and here in TF2 I'm still zipping around across the map with all the awesome mobility options and I'm doing great. Won every round so far.

I'm really loving this game. Don't want this test to end, actually. haha

The more I play this, the more fun it is. Equipping the grapple really helped with making it feel faster, like I'd guess the first game felt. It's awesome sliding, jumping and launching myself all over the map!

I kept screwing myself over with the grapple. Tryna throw the grenade, hit the grapple button boom I'm dead.

Glad they change the spawn rate on the Titans in hard point. Played a few games before the change and saw 1 Titan in 6 games.

This game is starting to grow on me. Last couple matches have been really fun with a mix of badass moments.

Love the sprint boost. You can go flying across the maps.

. Still wish pilot movement didn't feel so sluggish.

Yeah I played Titanfall 1 again to compare and you really feel the weight in this game. Of course you can still do a lot of badass moves, but Titanfall1 felt better.

And thank god that Sliding is in TF2. TF1 felt broken in a way without it. Game neeeeeeds it.

Might as well throw my 2 cents in here as well - it's gonna echo a lot of what has already been said.

I played about 50 hours of TF1 on PC, so a solid amount but was never a high level player. Most of the changes so far feel for the worse, but I think the biggest issue is the map design - one of the standout things about TF1 was the way the (best) maps blended ground level, mid level and skyline combat zones together, while also allowing larger areas for titan combat. The sensation of being a pilot bouncing around the different layers of the level trying to get the drop on a titan below, or chasing another player from an alleyway up to the top of a nearby building was fantastic.

The two maps in this test don't have that sensation at all - they feel out of balance and don't flow well for either pilots or titans, they're too segregated. Some of this will come down to learning the maps/routes, but in general there don't seem to be the opportunities to exploit the movement system properly.

As for the other changes that are being brought up;

  • the slightly slower movement speed hasn't been a huge issue, I think it still feels good. but TTK should go up slightly to compensate, because as it stands its pretty difficult to escape an engagement without getting taken out
  • Titans should be back on a timer, I'm not seeing as many titans being played and the timer gave a really nice flow to matches that is now gone
  • titans not having shields isn't necessarily a bad change, but I think this is even more reason for the timer to return because they're not as survivable (but maybe this can also be fixed with better team play with batteries etc)
  • I do like the battery mechanic as a concept, but I wish they didn't replace the traditional rodeo. Someone earlier said the battery pull should be an option as part of the rodeo, and I'd agree with that
  • following on, rodeo-ing an enemy titan and then calling your own titan down on top of them was one of the most satisfying manouveres in any MP game, even more reason for regular rodeo to come back
  • The grappling hook and slide are great additions
  • Titans as a set 'hero unit' style loadout is a fine change, being able to recognise a titans skillset based on their silhouette is a nice addition
  • Good riddance to burn cards, and honestly I could do without amped weapons and boosts entirely
  • Attrition needs to come back, and more AI in general would be good, the game feels much emptier without them
  • Presentation has taken a step down, matches in TF1 felt like a warzone, these feel much more static. I hope that having a dedicated campaign doesn't mean that the MP is going to lose those elements
  • This is getting very nitpicky, but I think UI is a bit on the ugly side
Having said all that, the core feeling of the game is still really good, and I think the solution to most of these problems isn't too drastic. And if the final release has more maps like Angel City and a lot less like Homestead then I think it'll still make for a great game.

My issue with boosts is that they always are available before titans. So youll always see things like amped weapons

I wish instead, using them sacrificed a bit of your meter

Yo do have to get kills, but not in the same way as a killstreak. Your points towards a titan don't get wiped when you die. And you can kill grunts, nit just pilots.
They don't get wiped but you lose some points I'm pretty sure.

Your titan doesn't even carry over once you lose points, either. Or it glitched out on me because I got my titan and died straight after, then when I respawned it wouldn't let me summon it until I got another kill.

Having access to amped weapons a lot more than 3 times per game also doesn't help the low TTK.

Devs said bounty hunt is evolution of attrition

Attrition is probably done

This is super fucking dumb. Who thought it would be a great idea to remove the most popular game mode of the original game?

Reading the store page for Titanfall 2.. "Tech Test offers new Titans, Pilots, and Maps that elevate the fast-paced and exciting gameplay fans expect from the series."

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How does the network feature work?

I joined the NeoGAF one on PS4 and so far no games have placed me with them.

Think of it like an Xbox Live/PSN party system where you're all placed in a lobby and can talk with mics. The main way to play with other people in said network is to select "Invite network" and choose a game type. It'll start up a search queue and it'll send out a 10 second long notification for everyone in the network to join in.

All of this makes me wonder if there really was something to the "power of the cloud". It's the only reason I can think of as to why you would remove the best part of the first game.

Attrition was Titanfall to me. I only played the other modes for achievements and regeneration requirements.

Party system doesn't seem to be working well for me and a friend on PS4. No one else?

I join the party and when he searches for a game, it doesn't take me with him
