Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

Whelp, I take back the whole "TF1 feels better" comments. Jumped back on TF1 after maybe a year plus away. Shit is dated... Yikes! TF2 feels MUCH better. Damn... Rose tinted glasses.

Saying Titanfall 1 is dated is like saying Call of Duty 4 is dated. FPS gameplay has been frozen in time for a decade.

Graphically sure, but I can't imagine how Titanfall 1's gameplay could feel dated.

But this is a tech test to stress the servers, not tweak game play on an old alpha build, remember?

Is it really necessary to be such a dick?

Jesus, the vicious nature of forums when people feel comfortable enough to dogpile about something they think everyone universally hates is mindboggling.

I mean it's one thing to criticize the game in its current form, but to criticize them when they make improvements because of some pedantic arbitrary belief that they shouldn't be tweaking gameplay metrics during a technical test? As if this one tiny tweak suddenly vindicates and validates everyone who claims this technical test is by necessity 100% representative of how the game will play at release?

Fucking hell people.

Welp the connection issues just killed any interest my friends had in this game. Tried to get them into it and they were starting to warm up to it but the connection issues just completely killed all of it. It's literally impossible to play with friends right now.
I mean its a beta, network issues were said to be expected imo.

343 developed the Halo game with the best gameplay in the series though...

Perhaps you are not recalling a game called Halo 4? if not, no biggie, as many tried to forget it also. :)

Halo 5 on the other hand, was enjoyable, it's just that I find the story line to be ridiculous, and the Prometheans are just boring characters to fight.

I played this game for a small amount of time this morning and am very intrigued. Never played Titanfall 1 but I liked this game. I see people are posting that they preferred Titanfall 1, do you all think that the issues being brought up about player movement can be ironed out in time for release? Also, based on what you have all played, do you think this game will have legs (console version)?

Once I figured out how to properly use the Scorch Titan, the gas cannister + thermite launcher is a deadly combo. The effects on it are amazing too - can't wait for PC =D

Visuals, and aiming mostly. It feels much "tighter" in TF2 to me. Jumping back and forth really highlighted that.

it's a network test.
not a beta or a demo or whatever.
it's literally to test the multiplayer, to get it working come release.

Most of the issues go to the core of the gameplay. They would have to change player physics, AI and networking code, and also map design in very significant ways to get it back to playing like Titanfall. Don't think that's going to happen without a delay (which also isn't going to happen).

Coming out between CoD and Battlefield with overwhelmingly bad/indifferent word of mouth makes me question if the game will be a breakout success or the next Evolve.

Hear hear!

The dogpile mentality is so dumb. I really don't want to see this game dwindle like the first one did. And I actually think it's really fun too.

While things such as titan acquisition and shields, player movement speed and perks can be tweaked, the maps seem to suggest that the problems people have with tf2 are deep and would require vast amount of reworking. Both maps in this beta are beyond fixing and do not feel like, nor support, titanfall 1 style gameplay. None of the titanfall 1 maps were nearly this bad. I would wager these represent all the maps that will be available at launch in just a few months as they fit the change in direction of the series. .

I don't think anyone wants to see the game fail. I think most everyone is providing criticism precisely because they want it to succeed.

With them moving to the "Titans are hero characters" mentality with their use and acquisition, I don't expect regenerative shields to be added. I do expect the rate at which you get Titans to be increased because there are matches on amped hardpoint where only 1 or 2 Titans total get called in.

Also I'm still really bummed that we can't outfit our own Titan(s). Obviously have the 6 builds that you can't really change but let me pick the chassis, weapons and abilities for a Titan.

My impressions from gamescom are confirmed. I still think this is vastly better than TF1 in every regard.

Was never suuuuuper deep into TF1, but I "prestiged" at least twice.

Really, really dig TF2.

Also, I think I played a map at gamescom that is not in the beta. Not sure though.

Sorry to offend your sensibilities, but I find it comical that they are trying to pass this off as nothing but a "stress test". Do you believe for one moment that since the completion of this "alpha build", which is apparently eight weeks old, not one of the developers play tested it and said..."gee, the Titans aren't dropping fast enough..."

The fact of the matter is that I hope that they make tweaks to the game play, because unless things change nest weekend, I know of four preorders that are going to be cancelled. Sadly, aside from a few minor tweaks, I fear that this is the game.

Edit:
Just to add to what I said above, I saw this was just tweet was just posted
Jon Shiring:
@FateIsAlex the design team is listening to all kinds of feedback, and we’ll be making changes based on that.

Don't lie to us, and tell us this is nothing more than a stress test, or use the words "alpha build" as an excuse for what we are seeing. Call it exactly what it is.

I want them to flat out say "speed increased, grunts added, timer brought back" it feels like they are saying they will do all this, but it seems too good to be true.

I really hope they release a message to the community.

I really want titanfall over battlefield. I enjoy the artstyle and mechanics and want a fast paced shooter to chill with.

I am so close to being a fan, and I want to support the game simply for the free maps

Seriously, paid maps in battlefield turns me off immediately.

Also, as a canadian, i dont buy my games new anymore. $80 is too much. But id gladly buy titanfall if it was a good game because sp + mp + co op + free maps brings such a peace of mind

Also, I wish theyd add split screen :P

There is one more map that I think is being added next week.

Considering their network solution and the fact they did the exact same thing with Titanfall on the Xbox One and PC, it absolutely is. Opening it up to everyone just lets them get a larger population to put against their new server system.

Anything that comes in the form of gameplay tweaks is obviously a positive but making sure the networking side of things isn't crumbling when pushing updates and such is a major focus of the test.

Grunts added? Like, there aren't grunts?

I want A.I in hardpoint and all other modes.

I want titan timers so killing a.i is a viable option/meta. This promotes moving around and not camping

Amped hardpoint promotes camping in three ways:

-no a.i so no need to chase them
-amping your objective slows the game even more
-i swear it takes longer to cap a zone in general

Btw, Im so turned off by homestead, especially in hardpoint. I swear B flag feels like such a deathzone thanks to the openness

Played it on PS4 earlier, does not look bad at all. I'm not so much into online shooters, so I played against bots, I really liked the time trial at the end of the tutorial. I think stuff like that and the singleplayer is what I'm really stoked for.

I'll play some online matches later, just wanted to get a feel for it and it's pretty responsive, don't know what all the letdown is, but I'm trying to see where I can get the original titanfall since I have all the DLC on the PC.

i guess we're all entitled to our own opinions.

although i cannot even begin to fathom how to understand yours.

Yeah, B is fucking hilarious. It's like your only options are

A) Stand in the open field and get sniped/trampled/whatever
B) Stand in the cave and get killed from behind

Matches not starting up now (PS4). Just a bunch of people in the GAF lobby saying "Hello? Hello?" Lol

Edit: holy crap. Finally got in.

Bounty Hunt is actually excellent, except for the money banking bit!
Just give me attrition and I'll love the game again.

Interesting. They fixed the Australian server issues last night. So I just played 2 games for the first since the server fixes and I came top in both matches.

Maybe lag really was my issue yesterday? I'm still annoyed about a lot of the changes they've made, but I think once I get to a higher level and Attritiion comes back I may come around to this.

Anyone know if this is open all week for those who got in early with the code?

Or is it closed until next weekend for everyone (after tomorrow that is).

I kinda don't like the money banking bit either because usually when I am doing well in a match while I am running to some money bank some enemy pilot or an enemy pilot in some titan pops up and kills me.

Explain that to your friends.
Or don't try and get them into a game based on a network test.

Sounded like you were complaining tbh.

Venting. And this thread is full of complaints lol. And a network test is the best way to get people into it, since the barrier is free. If there was a $60 barrier then i'd have no chance.
