“Donald Trump performs consistently better in online polling where a human being is not talking to another human being about what he or she may do in the election,” she argued. “It’s because it’s become socially desirable, if you’re a college educated person in the United States of America, to say that you’re against Donald Trump.”

“The hidden Trump vote in this country is a very significant proposition,” she insisted.

“Have you been able to put a number on that?” asked the Channel 4 interviewer.

“Yes,” Conway responded confidently.

“What do you think that is?”

“I can’t discuss it,” she said. “It’s a project we’re doing internally. I call it the undercover Trump voter, but it’s real.”

I bet some Trump supporters are even called racist for their vote. That's way worse than supporting xenophobic, mysoginist, homophobic and racist policies, though! Sad!

entertaining this, I could understand if somebody lied about who they voted for to their friends, but why would they lie on a poll, especially the ones done on landline phones? I mean if you are THAT embarrassed to even admit to a stranger yo uare voting for Trump, there may be a problem there with your choice.

This is a very, very bad indicator for Trump. Romney was all about this in 2012 and he got beat handily.

Related: Evan LA Times has Clinton +2 today

Whether the 'silent majority' is real, I actually agree with his point. I think they are many people who are going to vote for Trump but are too ashamed to vocally admit it to someone. Shame Voters

I wonder if they're actually wasting time on a project that only serves to convince themselves things are going better than they actually are. Hilarious if true.

I think there may be some small truth at the core of that...maybe 1% or something like that...

...but not nearly enough to mean he is in the lead or favored.

In political science, something like the "Bradley Effect."

If you're down in the polls but going to go on pretending that you're winning ("says who"), reality is going to set in hard on election night.

LOL --- is this what he talks about w/ Trump in his daily briefings to convince him to keep him onboard?

"No, really......we're making GREAT progress among the swing state voters.......sure, the POLLS may show you getting slaughtered, but fear not.....we've established an UNDERCOVER NETWORK OF SECRET VOTERS that will carry you to victory on Election Day......"

This election may be the most entertaining of our lifetime

This is, in part, why there's a margin of error given for polls.

It's worth noting the amount of talk about "Shy Tories" and the pre Brexit polls over here.

Polls aren't infallible. If you're worried about Trump getting in, don't get complacent cause the polls say you're fine. Especially when we're dealing with things like this where people feel like they can't spout their bullshit out loud.

Man, fuck that noise. How can Trump's campaign have these loud, giant, crowds show up for their bullshit rallies and then claim that they have any kind of a silent majority of voters.

Sounds like they are trying to keep people from abandoning their loser of a candidate.

Every sentence here is a gold-mine.

1. First paragraph admits that Trump is completely embarrassing to a majority of voters.

2. She admits they have a number, but is unable to talk about it. Why? It's an election. You should be touting numbers constantly.

3. The trump campaign has a team dedicated to a project that tallies the number of people too embarrassed to talk about trump in public, but is fine voting for him in private.

Lol, 538's most recent podcast had them discussing how unlike most Trump campaign staffers, Kellyanne Conway was a serious pollster who operated strictly in reality. Only took a few days for her to put that assessment in doubt

Ah Yes. That makes sense.

I don't think the election is "over" by any means. But I think Trump's chance of victory depends on externalities that could cause a swing. Some sort of scandal or massive terror attack or something like that.

Ignoring the pure stupidity of all this,

It’s because it’s become socially desirable, if you’re a college educated person in the United States of America, to say that you’re against Donald Trump.”
Gee, I wonder why that is?!

I love how "Trump is actually doing better because it's too shameful to actually say you're voting for him" is a current PR strategy

So basically the argument they're really making is that all the polls of Trump getting killed by college educated whites are wrong because they're just ashamed to admit they support a racist demagogue.

What? +2 is nothing. That isn't even over the margin of error! You sure you didn't mean +12?
LA Times has been by far the most Trump friendly poll. At one point they had him +7 and they had him winning earlier this week and his supporters have been treating it like gospel. And now it shows him losing.

It's worth noting the amount of talk about "Shy Tories" and the pre Brexit polls over here.

It's also worth noting that Brexit doesn't have any real direct comparison to what's happening with Trump, never has, and has become a de facto comparison to those who really only have a gleaming idea of what's happening, and has become a pseudo-fear mongering tactic in these threads despite having almost nothing in common outside a very broad connection through xenophobia

Do some of you guys really not understand that the vast majority of polling is anonymous? They are not spouting anything "out loud" to anyone lol. I have no idea what some of you are on about, honestly.

Leave was winning in most of the lead up to the vote and remain only took a lead, in the margin of error, within the days right before the vote. It isn't comparable at all to the leads Hillary has on Trump. And that doesn't even bring up the fact that the minority population of the US compared to the UK makes those that try to correlate Trump/Brexit together look foolish.

Brexit polls didn't show that the leave votes were losing overwhelmingly. The polls showed a toss-up but people just assumed it would never happen, just like how the polls showed Trump winning but people assumed it wouldn't happen, then acted surprised when he ended up winning.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were *some* amount by which 'likely voter' numbers were a bit more wrong than usual this year - he's going to bring some people out of the woodwork who don't ordinarily vote - but there's no way it's sufficient to make up for Clinton's lead, and it's fairly clear that he's down to his 'hard' support only right now (and that even that is likely softening).

If the Clinton campaign wants to crush him even harder, I guess they could start doing what they can to raise Gary Johnson's profile.

First you have to discredit the polls before you can claim the election was rigged when you lose. They're just setting up their narrative.
