I imagine Uncharted 4, Gran Turismo Sport, Horizon: Zero Dawn and God of War will be their flagship Neo flaunting titles, with a few third party titles sprinkled in for good measure. I don't see them debuting a new title, it just seems counterintuitive.

You really think they'll have such a huge focus on first party titles?

Granted I could see them showing off GT:S since it's coming this fall, but I think they will be focusing on Call of Duty, Watch Dogs 2 and something like FFXV I suppose, you know - the big blockbusters hitting this fall, and I think they will try to convince people why Neo is the 'best place to play' this fall.

And Titanfall 2 if they have marketing on that, not sure they do.

I doubt we'll hear much about Horizon or God of War at least untill PSX.

Even with a platform ecosystem idea, why wouldn't you name your next console PS5? You just need to market it as a platform that will play all games from your older version of consoles.

Apple doesn't sell its new iPhones as just "iPhones". No, they're 5, 5s, 6, 6s, etc etc.

There is brand value perceived by attaching numbers to the end of premium products. It communicates that this is the leap.

"Playstation" is already something that Sony considers more of a brand than any one piece of hardware. Just look at Playstation Now, Playstation Vue and Playstation Music. However, when it comes to consoles they're still going to make sure you know it's a console. The leak of the Playstation 4 (slim) showed us that it's not even being branded as a redesign, it's just considered a Playstation 4.

There will be a PlayStation 5 though.

If Sony just kept updating the hardware with forwards and backwards compatibility from the PS4 onwards it'd hold every future console back. There would be an outcry from devs about having to create assets and new physics, AI systems for every future and past console. And games would never progress properly because the PS4 would be holding the future consoles hostage.

The Neo is just a mid Gen refresh. Simple as that. It's to give players better graphics and devs new toys and more power to play with.

In 3-4 years we will get a PS5 that drops Neo and the OG like a sack of shit. There needs to be a point where the Gen ends as usual to further progress graphics technology and keep pushing gaming experiences forwards.

Also one last comment. Sony have already stated that Neo CANNOT include new features that the OG can't do. So if we get a refreshed console in 4 years we would still be held back by the OG PS4 because of that specific policy and that'd continue until we get a new Gen.

Edit: The PS5 will likely include a Zen CPU etc but devs would never be able to utilise that if they have to keep feature parity with the OG. Sony will keep BC with the OG through emulation like the XBOX One does. That means we can still have proper Generation leaps while keeping BC with Neo and the OG. Which brings me to what I was originally saying.

There will be a new generation and there will be a PS5 that only uses emulation to keep BC with the PS4.

Realistically though, first party studios will be the main supporters of Neo - and I'd be quite surprised if Uncharted 4 didn't factor in. They also have to future proof it a little hence Horizon seems like a lock too in my opinion. You're right though, they could save that for PSX and they will want to push the fall lineup too - so aside from Gran Turismo Sport, I could see Final Fantasy XV and Watch Dogs 2 being showcased too.

Sony will likely show games like UC4 and Horizon as their flagship Neo mode titles with a few 3rd party titles thrown in as well. Most likely FFXV and Watchdogs like some other users are saying.

They will push the comparisons between the OG and Neo. It also wouldn't surprise me if they shown past titles like Fallout 4 etc with a Neo mode patch applied and an announcement that they've worked the mod troubles out and also a tidbit about Fallout VR.

Also will Skyrim PS4 have an even better Neo mode upgrade? If it's coming then it's mandatory isn't it? Imagine that beast.

I really don't think they should focus on any games that perform below expectations on the base PS4. It's much better to take games people are already confident in and then show a boost from that.

For everyone talking about Sony getting sued I would simply argue that the device has always been called the PS4, and this is just an upgraded version of that. With that considered wouldn't they be within their rights to name it PS4 K? (and not PS4K or PS 4K). It seems like the 4K is more of an implication or a clever pun, and less a statement of fact when it's written that way... I dunno I'm not a lawyer.

While I think PS4K is clever if you consider keeping the same naming convention over multiple generations they may decide to go with something else anyways.

Some do Im sure. But people also use their phones on a daily basis and use them way more than people use their consoles. Upgrading every few years isn't a big deal to me but I also don't buy every piece of hardware. I don't own a PS4 so I will be getting the NEO, I do own a Xbone and I kinda doubt Ill buy into a Scorpio but who knows.

I hear where your coming from but that's a whole different animal. As you said, tougher to swallow. At least most of the time with a new phone you can transfer contacts, email stuff, and download the games you bought if you remain within the same OS though you likely have to start games from scratch. Most stuff works for generations of phones.

Here, well, I sort of look at it cost wise the same way I might look at the cost of upgrading a GPU on PC every few years, though there are a ton of wrinkles to that line of thinking.

Deals like these are why I think I'm going to hold off on the Neo until sometime in 2017. There've been a LOT of great bundles this generation so far. If I could get $150-200 from selling my PS4 at that time on top of a bundle like this, that could be a good way to go.

1) FF15 comes out in 2-3 Months and there is still no Bundle announced. Even not for the japanese Market.
DQ Heroes got a Bundle, MGS V got a Bundle and even FF Type 0 got one in Japan....how in the world is there no Bundle announced for FF15 - the by far biggest and most important Game coming out for Ps4 so far. (In Japan)

2) Verendus and i think also Kagari said there is a FF15 Bundle planned

3) Sony and Square Enix waited to announced a Neo Bundle for FF15
What better way to push this new console in Japan, than with the biggest game coming out.
If Sony wants to sell some Neo Console during Christmas, then this is the best way
