Pokémon Sun & Moon | Info and speculation thread

Have we discussed this leak yet? It was posted on 30th July, 2 days before the Alola forms, Z-moves etc were shown.

-A Pokemon based on a "shovel" could be the sand castle Pokemon.

-Also states that there would be a pre-evo for Mudsdale(which they could have totally guessed).

Just putting it out there!
What's interesting about that rumor is the alleged way Rockruff works. It says Rockruff has three evolutions — but the one you get depends on the starter you choose.

15th of next month afaik, although it'll probably leak around the 12th.

Longer wait this time, unless GameFreak surprise us.

While it hasn't been specifically announced yet, they've been releasing trailers and new info on the 1st of each month. I'd be surprised if there's not something on September 1st.

B2W2 gave us the Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 Animated Trailer:

XY gave us Pokémon Origins:

ORAS gave us the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Animated Trailer:

I wonder if the tradition will be kept with Sun and Moon. It would be amazing if we got an extended animation project like Origins again, but I'd be good even with something along the lines of the B2W2AT. The ORAS one was pretty bad though. :p

I'd like a "Welcome to Alola!" type of trailer that was kinda like a travel video about the Region and it's landmarks. Toss a warning in there about Bewears and Pallosands and I'd be down.

Good god that shot you have with Red is horrible.

Yeah, you could tell that each episode was animated by a different studio. I would say that the first episode (by Production IG) was the best one cinematographically, but OLM definitely got the artstyle better than IG and XEBEC. That is hardly a surprise, of course. They also animated the best battles, which is why it was an excellent idea to give them the fourth episode.

In other news, Water-type Alolan Arcanine may have been debunked. It seems that regular Growlithe and Arcanine are native to Alola.

Do they effect the gameplay?

At least in Gen 6, the only difference it made was that it served as a (poor) anti-cheating proof. Only Pokémon with it could partake in official tournments and the alike. Only much later did they allow non-Gen6 born Pokémon.

I would just like to note that the 4chan post listing things like Water Arcanine and Fire/Fairy Ninetales was a separate post from the rest of the leaks. It could have been posted by anybody.
From Joe's Twitter:

The black plus marking might be an indicator of a gen 7 born Pokémon. Similar to the hexagon symbol in the gen 6 games.
I'm confident it is. That's the symbol the Team Captains wear. Similarly, the pentagon came from the Kalos symbol used in the Pokedex and shit.

It also prevents you from bringing in Pokemon with movesets from like, Game Boy Advance era that not everyone has access to.

I mean, I thought this too but then I did further digging and it seems like a bunch of old hand-me-downs are legal. Extreme Speed Dragonite for instance is only possible if you bring up a Dragonite (or family) from waaaay back or trade for it to breed it.

So long as its an egg move I guess they allow it.

Well, I'm just gonna say that if they still don't have the confidence in their movepool-balancing abilities that they want to create a transfer-only rift between Gens 6 and 7, then lolololol.

Like, some of the transfer only stuff from GBA is silly, but the majority of it is fine. I never got trying to keep it out of modern games. I actually kind of covet some of those movesets because they're quirky and fun, and it's not like it could break the meta (any more than it already is).

It's like Edition Select in USFIV- it's great as a fun/casual mode, but it's not good as a competitive mode because it leaves the developers unable to actually balance anything since all prior decisions are locked in.

The only way to have a seismic toss Charizard, a move that's iconic and well known on Charizard, is via GBA transfer.

They really need to give Charizard seismic toss as either an egg move or just learned by level.

You just know they're going to make bottle caps hard enough to get that it's still easier to IV breed.

Never fear though. $1.99 per gold bottle cap!

When has GameFreak ever even slightly hinted at microtransactions? They seem to want to distance themselves completely from them with the main RPGs.

See I definitely understand that, but sometimes I think the moves they restrict are really harmless. I think maybe they should just do a better job of only weeding out really unbalanced moves from movepools I guess.

What old GBA/DS moves are unbalanced?

Defog is the only move I can think of that's limited to an older generation that's actually worthwhile.

I'm fine with it... Caps are interesting to avoid SR legendaries for IVs, but should perfect IV be easy, they could remove IV completely.

Also, I think breeding is part of the game (I mean, I play Pokemon games for breeding, I couldn't care less for battles, I've yet to do a battle against an human player). I'm perfectly open to the idea of breeding for players that need specific pokémons (well, maybe except for pokémon having a specific hidden power)

I mean yeah, that's kinda what I'm trying to say I guess. I don't really find anything too objectionable in the current list of transfer only moves, so I don't see any reason to go treating them as game breaking when there are actual things to balance.

Even with Defog, I don't see the problem with more hazard clearing Pokemon :B Not that I think hazards are bad, it just brings more Pokemon into the meta and makes more stuff viable and in different ways.

It's basically a poll question. Not really indicative of anything.
It's possible that they are just trying to spark discussions, but Nintendo France aside, the middle evos could be revealed next month. We got them for X/Y in September. Yeah, X/Y released a month earlier than SM will be, but it's still something to consider. We know that Rockruff's evo will be in next month's issue of CoroCoro, and we know that Rockruff shares a secret with the starters, so who knows!

Good point. I can see that happening.

It will be interesting to see how the middle evolutions transition to the archer, heel wrestler and siren.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions yet, it could just be that both are available.

I think it's been discussed, the idea that Alolan Pokemon may coexist alongside traditional ones in Alola. I don't think it sounds very convincing; if they're going to try to promote these Alolan forms it makes sense for them to make those forms the only ones available in the new region.

The islands are separated by large amounts of water, it would make sense for a Pokemon to evolve(Not Pokemon evolution) one way on one island but not on another.

If that post with water Arcanine did turn out to be bogus, it's pretty nuts that they guessed Alolan variants AND /Fairy Ninetales even if they got the first type wrong, haha.

What are the chances GameFreak pulled a Kansas City Shuffle with that supposed leak with the Starters final evo?

My thinking is that GameFreak has been doing this for 20 years and knows leaks are bound to happen. So what if they released that Confidential with the only accurate thing on it being Marrow to get the fanbase to look left while they move right.

btw you can't just say "maybe Arcanine might evolve on one island and not the other!", because the forms are outright named Alolan, not "island".

lol, no

Those characters are too well-designed for something as petty as trying to throw off the most hardcore fans who actually follow leaks for the handful of months leading up to release
