You guys are crazy with these mockups. Can you also identify this man?

Isn't Fiction supposed to be related to this guy? Or is it the other one?

I don't think this will be a problem at all - consumers are completely used to the 'tick tock' upgrade sequence by now.

*Man walks into Gamestop / Best Buy*
"So this is that new playstation? What's it all about then? Why's it more expensive."
"It plays all the same games, but runs them better."
"Huh? The same games?"
"Yeah. You know the way the iPhone 6 has a 6s? Think of this as the PS4 S. It's the same, but better."
"Oh I getcha."

It's not too hard to understand.

But the 6S isn't really considered the slightly better iPhone 6, it's just the newest iPhone. By now the public has caught on that there's a new iPhone every year. Every other year it's numbered or has the S naming convention, but each year's upgrade is roughly but the same leap as the last, regardless of if it's from an S to a new number or from a number to an S.

If the Neo really is a mid gen upgrade with a hard cutoff when the 5 comes out then it's not quite the same thing. Personally my money is on Sony following the iPhone model, where new consoles are released every 3 or so years but the leap between numbered and non-numbered entries is the same and everything is backwards/forwards compatible to an extent. The PS5 will be to the Neo what the Neo is to the PS4, and the fact that it will have a full number at the end won't actually mean anything.

Damn you guys are unlucky. I have a launch unit and it has always been silent. Not as silent as the XBone, but decent enough. And my room used to get to 100º in the summer.

That's where I'm at, I still can't understand why people complain about the noise. I don't play my games very loud, and hardly ever have a headset on. I have 2 ps4s and only once in a while will I hear the fan kick on and it's not even loud.

4.5 kg?

But why?
Possibilities:
1. Metal Case - It's notable enough the worker would have known. Less likely.
2. 3.5" HDD instead of 2.5" allows larger HDDs to be used. - Plausible but not likely
3. Larger heatsync to cool a more power hungry APU or to decrease noise

A lot of them are probably in areas with poor ventilation or are very dusty. The PS4 is extremely easy to clean the dust from too if you take the 20 minutes to do it.

10lbs? Must be a PS3 in there for full BC functionality.

Highly doubt it.

The weight has to be for the power supply unit (edit: and bigger heat sync, Theonik mentioned it above) and cooling system for the APU with its higher clocked 2.1 GHz CPU and 36 CU, 4.2 TF GPU,
even assuming the specs are the same as that months-old leaked document.

I wish people would just accept that the OG PS4 has drastically varying degrees of loudness due to build quality. I'm so tired of "what??? my PS4 is loud as fuck/quiet as a mouse" posts

If using 14nm (probably not) the console would be smaller, produce less heat and use less power. I suppose it depends on what GPU they use but if it is 16nm or below it should be the same size console then OG PS4

You are forgetting the part where it is 2.3x (supposedly) more powerful. Which probably means more silicon.

Could PS3 BC be a possibility in Neo, or would that be too expensive and not worth it?

Don't get hyped. No native backwards compatibility. They may allow to play PS1 and PS2 games bought on PSN just like on the PS3 but nothing else.

PS Now will be the backwards compatibility service for Sony moving forward.

psnow is not their bc solution

if it were they would let you play games you own for free

Personally, I wouldn't pay 499 for the leaked specs.

Only three years after the OG released as well, lol. I actually think I'll ride my PS4 on out until PS5 releases and just pick up Scorpio in mid 2018. As it will still be new at that point and that is about when I will be ready for a new system.

Cell is still expensive as hell and PS3 BC through emulation I imagine is still extremely difficult.
If Sony wanted to build an emulator for Cell that would not be impossible. But it wouldn't be cheap. And people forget how limited the X1 BC really is.

What.

Up until now every iPhone with a new number had a new design while the "s"-variants improved only in technical aspects or minor design changes.

So the 6s is literally a better version of the 6, because they share the same chassis. (body? hull? I don't know which word to use but you probably get what I mean.)

Im tired of I'm tired post!
I'm kidding really.

Your right, what I said brought nothing to the table, my apologies.

That being said, I just kinda wish we could play ps3+ titles on ps4, instead of having to jump on old ps3. It's really cool you can do that with a couple of titles on Xbox live free games with Xbox 1. They have some good free titles once in a while.

Thats one thing too, to Sony its probably not worth the investment and they just want to forget about the Cell architecture.

I hope PS Neo doesn't have PS3 BC.

If it's hardware, it's a waste of money on something few will use.

Or it's software, it's a waste of dev resources on something few will use.

There, I said it! (I just don't see it being a selling point.)

If I understand in order for PS3 to play PS2 the cpu and gpu chips were placed on the main board.

I also understand that the Cell had very go multimedia capabilities. Does this still stand by today's standards?

If so is it feasible they found a economical/breakthrough way to repurpose the cell processor as a co-processor of some sort to include backwards compatibility?

If what I posted does not compute please ignore lol

Answer: Ain't nobody got time for that...

they aren't going to invest millions in R&D for a new version of the cell chip so people can play old PS3 games

So there is a possibility it might end up being white?
Not a fan. Black all the way. I hope there is an option between the two at least.

there was confusion. the PS logo is white, console is black

Man, I would love PS3 backwards compatibility.

PS Now just doesn't work for me due to my internet ping. My OG PS3 makes weird squeaky noises when the HDD is being used and new PS3 are nowhere to be found. In Canada at least, the only way to get a PS3 is used which I don't want to do.

So Apple event & Playstation Meeting on the same day, huh?

they're like 2 hours apart too, with sony going last. will be interesting to see who has the better press conference and better news cycle.

Sony with the better show, apple will probably get more clicks though

I tell you what. If they gave me my PS3 library with BC on Neo then I likely would upgrade. That would be a huge deal for me, but that is also probably wishful thinking due to the cell architecture.

Sony's stock price will probably go up while Apple's will go down
