Not sure what you mean... Neo here will take the internal res and scaling it up to 4K for output. You won't be switching between different output resolutions depending on the dev's target. So you'd just want a 4K TV if you want to enjoy that enhancement path.

So upgrading to a 4K monitor (as opposed to a TV) would be the same. It's the Neo that's doing the upscaling and not the display. I just bought my curved Dell about 3 months ago. Grrrr.

I'm referring to the extent of the Slim leak just recently. We have info on specs and dimensions of the Neo, but those may have changed. My point is Slim leaks are much more concrete than any Neo leaks thus far.

Well, having the system in hand tends to make that a lot easier.

I'm both excited and disappointed that we haven't seen leaks for the Neo in a long while. But I fear we won't be seeing real specs ever after the Sony conference. I have my doubts that the numbers will be a focal point.

They'll release PDFs with official specifications after the event.

One more week guys, you can make it. Just breathe.

That's honestly exactly what I'm expecting to happen. The OG PS4 currently has an MSRP of $349 in the States. I'm sure that Sony is saving money on the slim model production-wise, but not enough for the $100 reduction people are dreaming of. Three years into a console's life-cycle is not the time to start selling a redesign at a loss, especially when Sony already has a substantial lead.

As for the NEO, that price matches my expectations for the specs that were leaked. Maybe I'm out of the loop here but was there any information that pointed to the NEO getting a spec bump? I've been going under the assumption that this was just random speculation on our part based on the Scorpio announcement.

Because PS4NEO has been developed from the start as a marginal iterative concept, based completely around the original PS4 using only marginally upclocked components of the original machine outside of the GPU.

PS5 likely will not have these shackles of being tied down to PS4 or NEO's development pipeline, will be allowed to have its own titles to take advantage of the hardware, will largely be significantly bigger a jump NEO to PS5 than PS4 to NEO(and a HUGE jump comparing PS4 to PS5), and also, will likely be the new standard Sony will push on people to upgrade toward.

NEO is an option, PS5 won't be to play the biggest and latest titles, even though i'm sure crossgen will still take place to some extent, and PS5 will have BC with PS4 and NEO titles. Of course that is just my prediction.

While I agree with most of what you write most of the time, it seems you write certain things as if they were factual without any possibility to be anything else

Well feel free to point out where you disagree, and we can discuss it.

No point saying he is wrong without talking about why you think that.

Hype at all time low, I take GR2 on stage footage as best thing could happen.

Considering only a week to go it does seem really flat and eerily quiet on the media front (after being scolded by Sony over the slim leak?)

And Sony still haven't announced the thing.

The media is waiting for the first one to slip up with actual specs. The pile on afterwards is gonna be hilarious and sad to read. Give it a few more days...

Already worked out a scenario that will allow me to watch the conference while I'm on my vacation to the UK. My girlfriend will be in the hotel lounge drinking.
Got them priorities in order, I respect that.

Indeed 249$ won't happen in september because:
1)They will sell a lot of units regardless with a redesigned system coming at 50$ less than the current official price.
2)Lower prices will be needed in the short term to get rid of inventory of the old units. If Slim is 250$ in september they would simply lose money on old inventory.
3)Door is totally open to drop the price again during the peak of the holiday season when most consoles are sold, achieving the best compromise between profits and units sold.

Are you trying to further my point or did you misunderstand my post? I don't think we'll see the Slim come in at $249 either.

I always put prefaces around things, like likely, possibly ect, in order to let people know that its not an official thing. Unless i'm sure what i'm posting is the case. In that post you highlight, did the same.

I just spent the last two days at my family's cabin. Two whole days without internet. It was heaven since I didn't even think about leaks or anything. Shouldn't have come back yet.

In this case I don't disagree. I 100% agree. I just think that they post some things in general as if they are locked down fact when that isn't known.

In this case, I 100 % am in agreement with your opinion, I wasn't disagreeing with this particular post with exception to it reading to me as statement of fact.

Edit: actually, re-reading, it states that is your opinion in this case. Perhaps I am over-tired. Sorry if misread/mis-interpreted.

Vast majority of users will be vanilla PS4 in comparison to Neo.
Think about it, we have a likely $250 PS4 slim coming in as the base SKU, that thing will move insane units on the global level.
Neo by contrast is very much a premium enthusiast SKU.

The Neo is a (inferior) PS4 released in 2016.
If you have either PS5 or Neo + PS5 many will choose Neo + PS5, they will even support the OG PS4 if the market is still in it's favour.

Also Sony has hinted at still having traditional "generations" per say, so a Neo 2 along with a PS5 wouldn't make all that much sense when games are developed exclusively for PS5 (which has bc)

Not Neo 2 along with a PS5.
A PS5 with bc is essentially a Neo 2.

Because PS4NEO has been developed from the start as a marginal iterative concept, based completely around the original PS4 using only marginally upclocked components of the original machine outside of the GPU.

It has been developed as a what would a PS4 look like if it launched in 2016.
There is no alternative for the cpu, calling the console PS5 wouldn't change that.
A PS5 (with bc) is bound by the same limits as a PS4 Neo.

If the PS5 releases in the next 3-4 years and they don't completely change their business model the jump from Neo to PS5 again will be tiny.
The shackles will still be there, cause at least 3rd's won't kill a xy million owner base over night.

Do you mean that even the PS5 could not possibly have a Zen CPU? That would be a shame. Jaguar/Puma will be ancient tech in 2020+.

I know that they removed some opcodes from the Zen uArch, but it's up to Sony to "ban" certain opcode usage in their PS4 SDK... Cerny must have had a long-term plan. It would be silly to keep the same uArch forever.

Lack of BC would be a bummer too.

Never before have I wanted the weekend to go by so fast.

I'm team 400 at 4.2. I just would like something as a stop gap that makes it better when I wait a year and a half to buy a ps5, instead of launch day.

I see more and more gamers will not buy PS5 day 1 anymore.
Sony going to regret this.

Unless it has 8 cores ZEN i don't think you will get BC and/or FC.

I have good news, you won't have a PS5 in a year and half from now...

No i'm saying that if a PS5 with bc can have a Zen a PS4 XY can have a Zen.
There is no difference between the 2.
Whatever possible problems/limits a PS4 XY has, a PS5 with bc has too.
Just calling your console different doesn't change reality.

I would if I weren't buying Neo, but, I'm 100% going into that choice with eyes wide open. I can't afford to buy consoles every 3-4 years. I could wait to get the next box, but I've decided not to. PS5 will have to wait for me in all likelihood.

I'm rather confused by this...

I thought Zen was off the table for Neo because of the timeline involved.

If it's because of Jaguar compatibility, PS5 will either go with a different solution (emu, a different CPU chip we don't know of yet that is Jaguar compatible, or a separate Jaguar co-processor) or it won't have BC.

If Sony is still in the business of step-change console generations, and if CPU power jumps are still important, then I don't think it'll be let that issue dictate the performance pace.

just because Neo won't magically make every game 60fps? lemme ask you this, do you think all Scorpio games will be 60fps?

Nothing to do with 60fps or Scorpio, just the idea of enhance console come few years after, will make gamers less likely to be early adopter.

oh well I totally disagree with that. the type of people that will buy Neo day one would absolutely upgrade to PS5 day one a few years later, plus all of the standard PS4 owners would be more likely to upgrade as well

All Sony has to do is make some games exclusives like a normal gen.
Also most hardcore will buy PS5 early any way even if they use Neo for few extra months .
Which is why i hoping coming Sep 7 they put a end to this FC nonsense .
