Cool thread! Would love to see what comes of it c:

Pretty much done and just need to clean up my sketch, but I see Prax has somehow pumped out a gazillion masterpieces in an hour... -_-; Lawd, girl. Workin' it!

Here you go! I struggled getting your likeness, and I see parts are still off. But I guess it'll do for now.

Yeah, It really does scratch an itch, and I'm having fun pushing myself to try and improve doing these portraits, and trying out different styles and techniques.

Hey Onkel, good to see another fantastic picture from you, hehehe! So many good new portraits to draw...

Ahhh, it's great~ I think you captured plenty of elements and I'm now forced to consider using yellow as a shader. ^_^ Thank ya! Do you sketch --> scan -->comp color or all on the comp?

And I'm with you on the pushing part. My stuff now is so much better than when I started. Haven't changed my style too much, though. I should probably take a leaf out of your book and give it a go.

Experimenting with more comic-style inking and coloring for this one:

*_____* Oooooo. Super cool! It looks like one of those iconic pop culture prints. Love it! Thanks, yo!

Hey. Anyone would make one for me? My wifes (and mine) anniversary is coming up in 3 weeks and would love to have a great drawing of maybe one of our wedding pics~

Hey! Hopefully you don't mind that you're exaggerated a bit. I was inspired to also try out a flat stylized design.

Aww, thanks! I was playing around with the colors trying to capture how your picture is overexposed a bit, and thought the colors made it interesting.

I think it's important to not just stick with one thing that works. I really want to improve painting, so I need to push myself to move away from relying on line art so much.

I'm working on the iPad Pro, but my process is still the same as when I do traditional sketch on paper. I usually do a quick light rough, and then trace over it correcting and nailing the line down as I go. I'll do this once or twice, until I get what I want. Traditionally, it's all on the same piece paper, but I can put them on different layers in the iPad or Photoshop.

This was my quick sketch for you:

And my quick sketch for Moonkid. I did the final ink over this sketch:

Finished. So hard to even get a full free 15mins these days... -_-;

Hmmm... I like the drawing, but I think I missed the mark on you. Sorry, yo. Goofed on the hairline and somehow forgot to do the neck lines too. And I love doing neck lines... Aaagh. Baby brain sucks. -_-;

Haha. Yeah, had to play with the levels a bit because the background in the original was so dark that you could barely see the outline of my head in the original. Thought the colors looked neater in this version, anyway. :)

You're totally right on the pushing your comfort zone thing. Hard to develop if you stick to one thing. Will try something new next go or maybe just start working on color (inspired by you guys bc you're killing it). I do really like your sketch work, though. The one you did for Moonkid looks like something from the New Yorker.

I used to do a lot of graphic design and illustration, mostly freelance, but I transitioned to indie game dev where I've had some luck so far (even though my first big game still isn't released!).

Have you ever thought about getting into video game art?
I have but.. it seems like.. too much responsibility..! :Dc

Plus, I would have to think if I would really make ~$400/wk with doing art versus like.. just my current hourly wage doing mindless grocery work. lol It's a balancing act between my "skill" vs my actual "motivation/willpower" to use that skill. Unfortunate for me.. but I wish you a lot of luck and hope you have all the willpower in the world!

This is a duck face

(Note: Hair actually looks way cooler than what is represented in this image)
Hahahah! Perfect! Beautiful!!! *posts to twitters to show off*
My hair looks cool in this! It reminds me of Splatoon. xD That is also a good Donald and I have a soft spot for him in my cranky heart lol.

Hahah.. my stuff isn't clean like your stuff is! I wish I could take more time to make nice clean sketches too but I think I'd just drive myself crazy.
It takes a lot less time to scribble... Thankfully scribbles have a kind of charm to them when it comes to line weight.
I'll see if I can do more tomorrow!

So many talented people in one amazing thread, how have I missed this?

I'm gonna post up a picture my wife loves, featuring our old cat Meisha, who passed away last year.

Would love to see what could be done.

There are assumptions being made here.

I don't think it's too rude to try and double dip in this thread considering it was two years ago, so, if anyone feels like it:

Corgis aren't allowed. They are surrendered to.

Don't mind at all, was looking forward to being surprised :D Thanks by the way, also appreciate you showing the initial sketch.

That's mint n___n, thank you! I like the hint of snobbishness coming through hehe.

Posted and got a great piece of art from this thread years ago - still use it as my Facebook cover photo. Here's a new photo with my relatively new beard if anyone is willing to take a stab at a beard plus tye-dye selfie.

Aw man thank you so much to prax, amazing job on my portrait and everyone else's too. True credit to art gaf, thank you again, I love it.

Same. I've asked for a lot in this thread, so skip me unless you're feeling extra generous. Here:
