Was this ever proven? Doesn't the PS4 version perform just as well after patching? I thought the consensus was Xbox being lead platform resulted in less love for the PS4 version.
Anywho. On topic. I fully expect to get trolled by Sony at this event. They will release the slim and mention nothing about the Neo.

Just like you can have a 15 Hz tickrate in a 60fps online game.
I know some games do that (Halo 5 NPCs have 30fps animations), but it's kinda crappy IMHO... it's not a true 60fps game.

Eh, that depends on the game really. We don't know how how much fps games have, because most of them are capped at 30. We also don't know how much it could've been optimized more. I mean, if I am a developer, that is targeting a capped 30fps, I would stop optimizing when I reached that point.
Destiny can get a resolution bump if Bungie feel like doing it and Xbox One has nothing to do with anything.

I think it will depend on how easy it is for them to implement. Easy means there's a chance. Sony hace given them some serious stage time over the years, that's got to be worth something
What they'll have is the GTA V single player expansion - enhanced by Neo, with timed Sony exclusivity.

If I could dream out loud here for a second. It would be that FROM Software is getting a little tired of making the souls games and takes that Tenchu IP they are sitting on and releases a new Tenchu. Even just a tech demo to show off some Neo stuff would be a wet dream.

You telling me to look up theoretical performance on hardware tells me that it's just wishful thinking. If there were more documents or insider leaks about a spec bump I would see the validity.
I'm not sure what changes there would be for NEO on VR, but I just think it's an interesting situation marketing-wise. No matter what way you slice it, if the NEO has a better PSVR experience then Sony has to be creative. PSVR isn't a proven consumer product like the Playstation 4 is, so saying that it can be even slightly better on the newer hardware is a tough sell for fans with the old tech.
I understand that the sky is always the limit, but look at how that attitude worked for PS3 at launch. I don't think Sony will come out and tell non-NEO owners that they should get a second job to afford NEO and PSVR. =p
Basically any game with a CPU frametime <=21-22ms on standard PS4 should be able to hit 60fps pretty automagically on Neo. For VR games, any CPU-bound 90fps on standard should go to 120fps pretty easily on Neo. Some 60fps should go to 90fps. In all other cases it'll smooth fps around the standard-PS4 target.
The CPU improvement isn't huge, but it's a decent enough bump over the current systems, and i think it'll help out a decent number of games.

It can be under the hood stuff that you won't notice as opposed to fps related things.
A. I. Is a good example. Those algorithms can be processed at 30 Hz to save cpu cycles and the player won't notice a thing. Older games used to have everything tied to the engine speed but newer games are more modular.

Either way, I'm not really expecting NEO to be a powerhouse. I think their best bet is to launch it with the leaked specs at $399. Time will tell.
Not entirely true. AI doesn't need to do pathfinding twice as often because decisions are made at a different tick rate than animations. Network code is dealing with the same latency and bandwidth so it won't have double the workload. Audio related work is identical to running at 30fps. It's extremely title-dependent ... and none of it is the deciding factor anyway.
Games will be 60fps whenever the developer decides it's important. Period. I don't know how many times something similar needs to be repeated before people will believe it. We had 60fps titles back on game consoles whose CPUs were a fraction of a percent as capable as what we have now.

Keep in mind it is a machine aimed at getting games to 4K. That is the only confirmed thing we do know. Will 4.2TF be good enough?
We'll have to wait and see how much power Sony thinks it needs to make a justifiable difference.

I have low expectations of this given the rumored cpu. I will be surprised if Sony proves this refresh is necessary. Just a pure money grab and nothing else. 1st party games might get the improvements people want but 3rd party games I doubt it. I'll be paying attention but I'm expecting "arrogant" Sony to make a return now that they are the market leader.

Would it be safe to say that the estimated MSRPs of the NEO and Slim are $449-499 USD ($579-649 CAD) and $249-299 USD ($319-389 CAD) respectively?
It could very well be the exact same CPU design manufactured on a different process node to enable the higher clocks (and the leaks so far seem to suggest exactly that.) It's definitely compatible, both from an instruction set standpoint and, with some clock speed trickery, close enough to the same performance in Base mode that it won't cause any issues running PS4 titles.
The option to get a more powerful version for a higher price... oh no!
When I finally do play FFXV, I'll do so on Neo. I don't want to experience it on a regular PS4.

I hear you though, I don't know why some people think there is a magical hardware confit that enables 60fps. give devs more power and most of them will pile on more eye candy

I just looked it up and finally found the information! So Osiris mentioned that Sony was considering two different models of the NEO. One with the same CPU (albeit faster) at 4.2 TF, and one with a different CPU at 5.5 TF. There were numerous mentions that the 5.5 TF option would be $500 or more. I don't see that happening.
Well lets talk about that a bit. Saying that NEO is a machine aimed at getting games to 4K doesn't necessarily tell us much about the power Sony is going for. The Xbox One S can display games in 4K (albeit upscaled, not native) and it is barely more powerful than the regular Xbox One.
I'll admit I haven't had a ton of time to research the nitty gritty of how the hardware that PS4 and Xbox One use works. Based on what I do know, the latest NVidia cards have some trouble with 4K gaming at 30FPS. Even with all the optimization that takes place for console games, can 4.2 or even 5.5 TF get 30FPS at native 4K on console? I know we're getting into theoretical territory here but I'm curious.
This post is just missing a "Sony Too!" and you'd have every standard cliche in there.
If you ask me, yes. But it's not like I know (just like everyone else here), except that I know that Sony would like to earn as much money a possible.
