Honestly as much as everyone in here is talking specs and such (which is fine I like reading and learning these things as a non PC player) I will just be happy with a upgrade that takes current and future games to run at decent PC settings. If this "Neo" mode can make a game say like Uncharted 4 and make Single player run at 60fps with no loss of graphic fidelity or a game that has unstable framerate like Infamous Second Son and help run at a smooth 60fps and fix little hiccups I'll be happy.

I'm not expecting future titles to run PC Ultra settings with this new console but, maybe something like High with stable framerates. If I can get that for few bucks more I'm all in.

I think it'll be $499. They're not looking to price competitively since there is no other competition but themselves atm, and if thats too steep of a price they can pull a Don Mattrick and say they have a product for them it's called the ps4 slim.

They want to widen the accepted price-range of consoles. It goes hand-in-hand with the iterative-console model. They probably want to cover a $299-$499 span at all times.

Can someone explain why they think PS4Neo will be so expensive? I don't get it. To me that insane.

Two things spring to mind:
- it's can't be more than an original PS4 because it's an incremental upgrade i.e. not a generational leap
- it's supposed to be a PSVR companion i.e. bring more capability to PSVR at an additional cost

So it needs to be cheap and launched this year. These £400 predictions seem...too much. Surely it'll tank at that price because it is, after all, just a PS4 (apart from people here who know otherwise).

I think a lot of titles that are on console and also on PC have been shown to use somewhere in the High preset on their PC versions. The console versions have missed out on some weird stuff like little to no AF, it feels like unless the devs took care of those things you almost think of as baseline options on PC there'd be no point in "Now our textures are 4x higher resolution but you'll barely noticed because our AF solution is nonexistant".

I assume they'll hammer home that the base PS4/Slim (which it may be replaced by) will be the "Same great experience you get on PlayStation" but that the PS4K will be where "Great games play, better than ever".

I'm also thinking Slim will be $299, with the capacity for a $249 price in the wings when Scorpio and NX launch and permanent in a year or w/e, and the 4K will be...$450. I know it'll be marketed as a Premium product but they'd still want to sell gangbusters and I feel like $499 would be the breaking point for a lot of US customers in terms of what they could reason to afford, at least the less hardcore.

For UK prices I hope the Slim is £250 tops, and the 4K being £350-400.

1. People now have a viable alternative in the $299 PS4 Slim. It plays all the same games.
2. Likely a big goal of the new iterative-console model is to widen the accepted price range (of consoles).
3. It's being described as a Premium product.
4. A mere $100 difference to cover for UHD, 2.5x the specs etc? Probably true for material-cost but conceived consumer value is likely higher.

$299 seems too much for the slim. I'm betting on $249 at most. Or even $249 with one game.
PS4 is the fastest selling console of all time (or at least in competition with Wii, I'm not sure). Dropping it below $300 will keep that train going for a good while, no need to throw away money.

It's a more powerful PS4. Why would it be the same price ?

Final guesses for price - I don't think my stance on this pricing has changed at all, also, since there are two skus of the neo coming supposedly coming out, I'll list pricepoints for 3 possible skus (500GB, 1TB, 2TB). I'm not expecting any significant upgrades over the 4.2 TF spec leak.

PS4 Slim - $249 (the remaining stock of standalone OG models will drop to this as well)
PS4 Slim + 1 game - $299 (The remaining stock of OG PS4 + 1 game bundles will drop to this as well)
Neo 500GB - $399
Neo 1TB - $449
Neo 2TB - $499

I don't think the 500GB variation is even viable or conceivable considering the UHD 4K content you have to download on your Neo ranging from Neo mode patches and 4K movies. This won't reach even the minimum considering that there are 4K movies around 160 GB and with 500GB sku you have at least 100 GB non usable.

You never know. Regardless of what other people say, Sony wants this to sell as much as possible, and be a mass market product.

They shipped a 20GB PS3 to have a lower pricepoint option when mandatory ps3 installs were a thing. Looking at install sizes then, vs install sizes now. 500GB still fares far better than that.

I just realised, a couple of my closest friends are getting married on the 8th September, I thought I was going to miss the entire event as no way was I missing the wedding. My immediate reaction was...

Then I noticed the date was the 7th...

I expect at a guess NEO to have standard 1TB models. 2TB would be nice but doubtful and even though its classed as premium it doesn't mean everything will get a boost, such as HDD size, and that includes dimension (would be nice to fit a desktop HDD in...)

Obviously they'd love to sell as much as possible of any given product, but realistically there is a segment of the market willing to pay more for more, and smart pricing isn't necessarily about going for volume.

The software platform requires volume, but the standard PS4 is going to be the volume driver always now, even if Neo was - say - only 399.

That allows them to tinker with other offerings that don't necessarily aim for volume, but for optimising revenue and profit. Which involves premium offerings targeting minority segments.

Closer we get to Wednesday the more I'm leaning toward 499 as the likely price point.

It's fallen below the PS2 and the Wii for a while now afaik.

Not only that, but the current PS4 is being sold $289 ($349 with a $60 game), and last year you could readily find the PS4 + games at $299 towards the end of the year.

A slim at $299 would imo be a big missed opportunity to keep the momentum going 3 years in, specially when facing a revamped XB1S at $299 with 4K HDR.

But ultimately still the same under-powered XB1 (which the PS4 has been handily outselling 2.5x for the last couple of years).
The UHD makes it a more balanced field but no need for the PS4 to be priced below it.

So RDR2 has the potential to be announced here?

Has it been confirmed that it was supposed to be announced at E3 but got pushed back because of the recent events?

Really hoping for an early October launch.

I'm not, I wanna get both PSVR and NEO. Depending on what is shown Wednesday and if there is a price reveal, I will have just enough cash for PSVR. If NEO wow's me I'll be torn a bit, :( plus I won't be trading in my PS4 (as I'll get piss all for it from GAME)... I'll probably give it to my parent's.

Today's news inspires some confidence and also what a gaf member said too so, maybe?

No, nobody was able to confirm nor deny the rumour including Jason at Kotaku.

Hmmmmm. I might ask someone.

uuuh, that would be nice

Warner has been a PlayStation marketing partner for a while, and they sure have some games to announce like WB Montreal new game and prob Shadow Of Mordor 2.

Maybe we'll see tem at show

I know what they're working on and the target release dates, but no more. And if the target release date is true, it kinda have to be revealed this year I think :/

But If I already have a Ps4 with a 2 TB upgrade in it, its an easier upgrade path.

For users upgrading to a premium product, it would be better with no hard drive as many will have their HD technology of choice anyway.

What if there is a 2TB Neo version as base one just like the Xbox One S. 2TB should be the standard these days for any machine.

In case there is 1TB version or less (which souldn't happen), I hope anyone who had a wider HDD for PS4 could use to it upgrade the cheaper Neo sku.

It's a long-term strategy. Sony can officially release the slim for $299, but this holiday season retailers will probably have deals for the system and games, or even drop the price temporarily to $250. Sony can then do an official price drop next year to $250.

The base model for XB1S is 500GB.

The 2TB model has limited stock and seems to be only a launch shipment rather than something they're planning to continue (outside of limited edition game themed consoles).

Wow. I just checked. 2TB model is out of stock now. This means if there is a 2TB Model for Neo, those who want it have to act quickly which is a bummer for those ho want to wait for a GOW bundle.

Destiny 60fps, Horizon 60fps, Driveclub 60fps... Do It Neo, you're the One!
Funny enough, the Original PS4 could have very well run Destiny at 60fps. So a destiny patch could potentially bring much more to the NEO if the devs are willing to go that route. Somehow I doubt they will, as they would not want to make a product so much different as opposed to what on their other platforms graphically and in feel/performance. It's all about Egalite.....to them..
