Honestly it's still a question of if we'll see more than that and HDR support. I really hope that the console is capable of improving visuals and handling checkerboard 4k

I think we will see 1st party push Neo mode by offering bigger improvements but 3rd parties will hold off to see how sales go and if it's worth putting in the extra work.

I hope I'm wrong and right out of the gate there are some amazing improvements on Neo. But I think the first batch of 3rd party games are checkerboarding it and calling it a day

I think at least one 3rd party will try harder. Maybe DICE.

I think we'll see some of the more technically ambitious third parties try to push it.

Even if devs do go a more simple route I think checkerboard 4k, better AF, reduced pop-in, and HDR support would still have a pretty nice impact.

Wouldn't Sony be better off seling Neo before PSVR drops? adding that with House's reveal/release comments, I see a September 23rd/30th launch.

doubt it. PSVR is gonna be hard to come buy for the rest of this year

Yeah, most sites seem to indicate that (Best Buy, GameStop, etc.) but if they put up a fresh bundle with the heavier hardware (which I think is probable- though, maybe not this year, at least), I'd go in for the whole kit and kaboodle, even at an expected ~$1000 entry.

This is the one time where marketing deals may actually mean something for the consumer. Anything that sony has a marketing deal for with a 3rd party is likely to have more care put into its Neo mode from the getgo as they can show off the better looking Neo footage for their marketing. (Not a guarantee, just more likely)

So that's Watch Dogs 2, Call of Duty, Final Fantasy XV (Sony has a Japan marketing deal for this I believe), anything else?

Destiny's already out, and will have released its last big expansion on September 20th, I don't expect a patch for that to happen as they're probably really busy working on Destiny 2.

And then DICE just simply cares about this kind of stuff anyways, so Battlefield 1 will probably have a good Neo mode.

Yeah I'm really hoping we see some 3rd parties push Neo. I'm just setting my sight low that way if the presentation isn't super impressive I won't be bummed out

Epic is working on Paragon on PS4 so I wouldn't be surprised to see them add some features into UE4 to make scaling between PS4 and Neo easier for licensees.

I lowered my expectations as much as i can.If there isn't any Neo announcement i'm not going to cry,i may just throw my jet engine out of window.

Theres a Nikkei news article which states Neo is going to be released next week.
Below is the quote of part of the article that says so.
But I doubt it, because if it were, theres should be image leaks like the PS4 Slim.

ソニーはまだ家庭用ゲーム機のPSに大きく賭けており、アップグレードされた、さらにハイエンドの新バージョン(コードネーム「NEO」)が来週発売される見込みだ。

I think that's based on the Financial Times article claiming Neo is launching next week but they've either been fed bad info or they got the Neo and Slim mixed up.

Hey guys, can someone make me a TLDR of what you guys mean by checkerboarding 4K? Like, is it the same technique that Ubisoft did with Rainbow Six or is something completely different?

After thinking about some posts in the thread, I'm in the camp that there has to be a $150 gap between Neo and Slim. It just makes too much sense.

CoD and Destiny should have a Neo mode considering they're both partnered with Sony and have large populations within the Sony ecosystem...

Final Fantasy XV seems likely since they already supported VR, albeit a horrendous showing.

Watchdogs 2 possibly? Tomb Raider would actually be pretty funny and somewhat ironic.

This will lead to other devs pushing neo modes. Competitors will not want to be left behind

That doesn't exactly say it will be released next week. it says it hopes/anticipates a release next week which I guess. 見込み means hope, probability, chance, anticipation etc.. It sounds like they're speculating saying "Sony is hoping to release the codename console PS4 neo next week blah blah blah."

It's similar. We don't know the exact technique Sony is using to go about it but it's the same basic idea, using data from a lower frame buffer to reconstruct a convincing higher resolution final image.

PS4s: 500gb $250/ 1tb $300
PS4n: 1tb $400/ 2tb $450

Promote the PS4s 500gb alongside the PS4n 2tb and you have your 'value' gap. Then when necessary promote the PS4s 1tb alongside the PS4n 1tb and you have your 'bargain' gap.

I think I know what took the last guardian so long to come out. Sony has been playing the long game for a last guardian neo mode. It will be like looking into the face of god. #believe

With games that are multi platform and especially including PC then surely it won't be much of a step for developers to make a Neo version pushing a few settings up a notch same as they allow PC users to do with their setups, tailor made for Neo's power.

I would love to see already released multi plats given a bit of extra love for Neo. Games like Dirt Rally and F1 2016 feel like they're basically the PC game with some reduced settings and it's left at that, it must be pretty easy, and great fan service, to update these games with a Neo patch to make the most of the hardware. Better frame rates, less screen tearing, better shadows and filtering etc. Seems like a no brainer to get engagement back for older titles as people try them out again on their new Neo, whether they repurchase a previously sold game or just re engage, it gives them every chance of making a few bucks more from DLC or whatever.

God I want a Rocket League patch with much better anti-aliasing and an actual solid 60. Game has so much screen tearing even if it doesn't detract, why not give a Neo players the best version of the game they can get?

I honestly think one big message from this event will be most of the big titles from the PS4 catalogue, both exclusives and 3rd party, will all get Neo patches. Andrew House did say in an interview he expected most games to benefit, and I think that will stretch back the way as well as just for new titles.

I really want the game to run buttery smooth in 4 player splitscreen. That'd be awesome.
