Journey to the West

Elements of the story have been ripped off so many times for other IPs, and there have been a few games loosely based on the book, but they've been tactical RPGs, and platformers, and the like. What Journey to the West needs is a 3D action-adventure game where you play as Monkey and beat the crap out demons with your gold-banded cudgel. Like a (literally) linear Zelda, you'd travel the road, find cities and caves with quests to help people and kill bad guys, but since Monkey already has tons of abilities, there'd be a lot more freedom in taking on any situation.

Monkey himself is a great character with lots of cool powers like transforming into various animals and things, flying 1000s of miles in seconds, making many clones of himself. And he does lots of cool stuff like beating up the kings of hell so they'll erase his name from the book of death, fighting against all the lords of heaven, having a mountain put on top of him for 500 years (not so cool for him), fighting tons of monsters and demons, and generally going from place to place with his companions getting into the maximum amount of trouble, while almost always being a total unstoppable badass.

The episodic nature of the book would translate extremely well into a game. Everyone should read the book, but a well-made game would exposed more of the western audience to the Chinese classic.

We're getting one. Except Sun Wukong's now a douchebag running on Unreal Engine 3. The game is called Ensalved: Odyssey to the West or some shit. Looks horrible.

When I was watching Avatar I thought "Wow, this last 30min gives me an idea for an RTS! It looks kinda like Starcraft meets Stronghold Crusader or something." My friend and I are gonna do a Starcraft commentary parody of parts of it when we find the time.

Also, when I played the first Crystal Chronicles, I noticed that it was a mediocre game with a ton of fantastic ideas. Its (many) flaws could all be so easily fixed by a bunch of minor tweaks...

GYAKUSHU! by Dan Hipp.
I imagine it as a killer third person action Ă  la Bayonetta, with a kickass storyline and a strong narrative component.
It would be really amazing, since the manga already kinda feels like a game.

I recently thought about this character design. I know there are at least two games out there that feature it, but I want a good game with that kind of character... Almost everything would work, just let me walk around like that dude. :-P

I have no idea what kind of gameplay it would have. I just think using a gun in one hand and a sword in the other is the epitome of bad ass. :-P

Witch Hunter class in Warhammer Online looks exactly like that.

This one time I was fighting a war in Afghanistan my chopper went down and me and a another dude barely survived. A lot of other cool shit happened afterwards. It was during operation anaconda.

The whole time I couldn't stop thinking how awesome it would be in a video game.

Luckily EA is making my dreams come true! :-D

the movie Shaolin Soccer.

then again I remember a soccer game on my nes where pressing A + B would make your players shoot the most fucked up shots I've ever seen

I don't know what it is, exactly, but No Country For Old Men consistently gave me that "I wish there was a game like this" feeling.

Red Dead Redemption with the music and UI turned off emulates this surprisingly well :) No Country is essentially a contemporary western anyway.

Also:

Amazed there hasn't been a bigger calling for a game version, considering the cult following the movie has. The closest we've come are Max Payne mods. I mean, dude, Gun-Kata. Gun-motherfucking-Kata.

*edit: Beaten by post #22 :lol

Yeah, Exactly the style I love. Too bad it's a MMO and Red Steel 2 is first person, so you don't see all that cool style.

Some kind of third-person game would be great.

Yeah, I saw a preview in EDGE last year. It made me sad. The Mind-Ape's story needs no altering, it's already a perfectly exciting action-filled (and funny) epic tale. It could use some editing sure but that just means you have plenty of source material for sequels.
