Super Mario Run announced for iOS (Android later), Dec 2016, Screens/Info in OP

Looks fun. Hopefully it won't be too long before it is out on Android. I am watching the conference because I was planning on watching the PlayStation Meeting anyway, and this was a nice surprise.

I will probably buy it(i'm guessing its gonna cost a buck at max?) to support Nintendo releasing games for iOS.

But man.. notlikethis.gif ...

It doesn't seem big, but the way apps go viral are insane. Nearly every single person has a phone and when they see or hear people talk about apps, it's only a button away to get in on the experience.

Exactly this, but I think it is indeed quite big. It might lead to even more complex mario games.

Oh God no, not the NSMB aesthetic again. D:

Did people actually not expect a Super Mario autorunner at some point on mobile?

That felt like the #1 most obvious game when they announced they were going to mobile and zero brands were off limits.

I wonder if the detractors played Rayman Jungle Run before because that's a fantastic title on mobile.

And how would a traditional Mario game even work on a touchscreen?

Wait, why are you hating 2D runners? Haven't you all played Rayman on iOS? Game plays godly, one of the best on the platform. I'm really happy that Mario is similar to that.

Meh, just a running game. I'll wait for the real Mario game on NX. Mobile games have only held my interest for maybe a month and then I got bored (Miitomo, Pokémon Go)

This is great but Nintendo, please make a real Animal Crossing for the iPhone. I need it.

Hopefully this makes money, regardless of its price.

Sounds a bit lame, not that it won't be fun but it's like the exact type of things investors would get hot for but not really taking mobile gaming forward. I expect an NX port.

would have been a baller move to partner with Apple and announce the NX today just before Sony talks about Neo. From out of nowhere.

So wait what if NX is just the housing for Mobile devices. And an app hat installs on iPhone that streams local gaming.

I never play games on mobile, but everyone is saying that this is an endless runner.
But they showed levels in the game so it means it's not endless?
It looks similar to the Rayman runners. Emphasis on timing of jumps more than anything else. They work really well and the level design is quite good.

Rayman Jungle Run was dope, I don't see why this game wouldn't be too.

There's a difference between runners that have discrete levels with actual level design and endless runners that just throw randomly generated environments at you.

I wonder if the detractors played Rayman Jungle Run before because that's a fantastic title on mobile.

Controls do crumble in the trickier stages but it's still a fantastic game. The lack of immediate, constant directional control is not as much of an impediment for deep gameplay as you would think.

Half the people in this thread must not be watching the livestream.

It's not a traditional endless runner. The video shows Mario stopping, changing direction, climbing, etc. It's more of a simplified control scheme to make it work well for mobile. Edit: I guess we're calling these types of games endless runners now. Seems reductive to me but okay.

Stopping and changing direction was done with 1 tap.

Climbing was done with no input whatsoever. He just tapped once to jump on the ladder

This actually looks really high quality...pretty much a simplified NSMB on my phone. Finally some bring I can actually have fun with on touch.

Back into Nintendo ecosystem confirmed...

Where do I sign up for Nintendo's service? I want my name registered before it's taken.

I was really disappointed when I thought it was just another endless runner.

Glad to see it's level and score attack based.
The multiplayer looks well done too.

"iOS first"

Worried I'd have to buy an iOS device for a moment there. But releasing later on Android is something an Android user gets used to (aka developers screwing us over).
