Pokémon Sun & Moon | Info and speculation thread

edit: wait how did you not use Kakuna

The Swahili phrase is Hakuna Matata. Boss doggie swapped Hakuna for Kahuna, which is an anagram of Hakuna, and is a Hawaiian word for "boss". Kahuna works better since it ties in the Hawaiian element, while Kakuna just makes it 2 pokemon names and a reference to Africa for no reason.

the more you know

I'm still confused as to how people don't know what 'kahuna' is despite being shown in the trailer that revealed no gyms

Ash looks super awful in this new show

I'm impressed that he looks younger now than when the series began. It's like the ultimate fuck you to anyone seeking any sort of progression. "Oh, you wanted Ash to be 11, after nineteen years of continuous production? Go screw yourself, he's 8 now."

If you're actually expecting progression in the anime by this point, I don't know what to tell you- that's so clearly not what the anime has ever gone for that I can't help but feel you should have made your peace with that by now.

Oh, doesn't bother me at all! I just find it somewhat amusing in the wake of the Kalos League thread. For me, it's schadenfreude, I had no investment anyway. At most, I'm mildly disappointed because I like the franchise and want it to do well and I feel like the declining viewership of the anime, which services as a vehicle for promoting the franchise, indirectly harms it.

Independently of that I also do think the art-style is fairly meh. The soft, rounded edges and bloom-esque white light in every shot makes it rather saccharine. The animation itself is very smooth, but I feel like that could have been improved without such changes to the art-style. It seems to be a much more consciously Japanese aesthetic and I think will be off-putting to Western audiences.

Is there a thread yet for tomorrow's news?

Rockruff's evolutions getting an international reveal is a shoo-in I think, and it seems like we'll get the Cutiefly evolution teased. I also hope we learn more about the new version of Amie.

That is a bit late to begin supporting the newest game.. But I guess it would force early adopters to actually look around Alola and make use of the pokemon available in the games (as if we wouldn't already).

I figured they'd let Alola have a chance to breathe before it gets flooded with legacy mons

Question is, do you think there'll be another slow roll out like in XY, either by choice this time, or necessity like last time.

To be honest, I actually really enjoyed the whole mess that Bank's botched launch caused last time. The speculation about changes to the unobtainable pokémon was a riot, and getting all non-mythical pokémon in the period where Japan had had access only briefly was an amazing challenge requiring both global co-operation and playing the GTS like a stock market.

I remember documenting my progress on another forum, but sadly it has since died.

Also, funny how they use a non-existing digital version of Black 2 to showcase Poké Transporter. :p

As much as I want to say this is something unannuonced/they use CFW and forwarders I think the UI mockup was just being lazy and replaced the Pokemon X icon with the Black 2 one.

It'll also stop embarrassing gaffes like at the ORAS launch a Japanese player transferring their living dex over to ORAS, deciding they don't like their trainer ID number and erasing the save...with the living dex still on there...ouch.

Those were good times. If you had Kricketot or Yamask then the world was your oyster.

I think the most amount of fun I had with X&Y online was when the Pokebank was not open yet when everyone were still figured out how will the meta shape up and try new things with the mega evo and the fairy type. I think the first two months of Sun & Moon will be the most memorable.

Still no news on the multiplayer part, a bit odd since we got news for X&Y online like 4 months before the game came out

I enjoyed it too. I love the point in the beginning of a gen where normal trades actually happen before the whole economy of the game is shattered haha.

That much is true. They obviously don't record manual operations to create these mockups. :p

Reveals that don't tie in with Corocoro seem to have better info, but Rockruff's evos were left out of last week's reveal so who knows if it will be that big.

There's a scan of some Japanese magazine talking about Jangmo-o, what's interesting is it talks about strategies with it and mentions that Soundproof allows it to resist Mega Gardevoir's Hyper Voice.

That's pretty much the first solid Mega confirmation being in-game.

Oh my goodness that Eevee Z-move(?). It's like the Mega Man final smash and then it's a stat boost.

In the amie section spot the Tyranitar Haircomb and Porygon hairdryer.

The trailer makes me think that male fashion choices are still inferior and girls can't wear backpacks :(

14:13: Pokémon Green, Red, Blue & Yellow will get through Pokémon Bank via Poké Transporter. They won't be able to be sent to Generation VI games. Pokémon Bank will also receive a special mode to view the Pokédex.

Wait, is this at launch only or even after the S&M update in January?

I did a living dex in Yellow to send over to the Bank... =(
